Frequently Asked Questions - HCM-350 KAZ

How do I know if the humidifier is working properly?
You should feel cool air coming out of the unit and notice a decrease in water level in the tank after 24 hours of operation. The humidifier does not produce visible mist.
Why don't I see any mist?
This model is a cool mist humidifier that disperses invisible, humidity-balanced air. It does not produce visible mist. If the water level drops, the unit is functioning normally.
The filter turned brown, should I replace it?
No, this simply indicates a mineral deposit. Soak the filter in fresh water to break up deposits. The discoloration does not affect performance.
What if I don't notice a drop in water level?
Check that the filter is wet. If dry, remove it and rinse under fresh water. Also ensure the ambient humidity is below 60%.
How do I clean the humidifier?
Unplug the unit, remove the filter, then descale with undiluted white vinegar. Rinse thoroughly. Then disinfect with a bleach solution (5 mL per 3.8 L of water) and rinse until odor is gone.
When should I replace the UV bulb?
The UV bulb has a lifespan of 3000 hours. The power indicator light changes from green to red when it needs replacement. Use an identical bulb (ref. HCM-350-UV).
What replacement parts are available?
Filter (HAC-504AW), Tank (HCM-350-TANK or HCM-350B-TANK), UV Bulb (HCM-350-UV), and Tank Cap (HCM-350-CAP or HCM-350B-CAP).
How do I descale and disinfect the unit?
First descale: wipe the tray, cap, and tank with a cloth soaked in undiluted white vinegar, then rinse. Then disinfect: pour 5 mL of bleach into 3.8 L of water, wipe the tray with this solution and rinse thoroughly.
What if there is an unpleasant odor?
It is probably time to replace the ProTec antimicrobial cartridge (if your model has one) and clean the unit. Replace the filter and follow cleaning instructions.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

READ AND SAVE THESE SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING THIS HUMIDIFIER

When using electrical appliances, basic precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury to persons, including the following

  1. Always place this humidifier on a firm, flat and level surface. This humidifier may not work properly on an uneven surface.
  2. Place this humidifier in an area where it is not accessible to children.
  3. Do not place the humidifier near any heat sources such as stoves, radiators, and heaters.
  4. Do not use the humidifier outdoors.
  5. Before using the humidifier, check the power cord for any signs of damage. If the cord is found to be damaged, DO NOT USE and return the humidifier to the manufacturer under the warranty agreement for repair.
  6. This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). To reduce the risk of shock, this plug is intended to fit only one way in a polarized outlet. If the plug does not fit securely in the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. DO NOT attempt to defeat this safety feature.
  7. To disconnect the humidifier, first turn controls to the OFF position, then grip the plug and pull it from the wall outlet. Never pull by the cord.
  1. A loose fit between the AC outlet (receptacle) and plug may cause overheating and a distortion of the plug. Contact a qualified electrician to replace loose or worn outlet.
  2. The humidifier should always be unplugged and emptied when not in operation or while being serviced or cleaned.
  3. Never tilt or attempt to move the humidifier while it is operating or filled with water. UNPLUG the humidifier before moving.
  4. This humidifier requires regular cleaning. Refer to the CLEANING instructions provided. Never clean the humidifier in any manner other than as instructed in this manual.
  5. Do not direct moisture flow directly at individuals, walls or furniture.
  6. When a humidifier is used in a closed room or small rooms, check periodically for proper ventilation, as excessive humidity can cause condensation stains on walls.
  7. Turn the humidifier OFF if you notice moisture on the inside of your windows. For proper humidity reading use a hygrometer, which is available in many hardware and department stores, or by ordering one from the manufacturer.

The sealed UV bulbs contain a small amount of mercury. Dispose of these items at household hazardous waste collection sites only. If the UV bulb breaks, do not vacuum or handle with your bare hands.

HOW DOES IT WORK? GERM FREE COOL MIST SYSTEM

Once the filled water tank is in place, water is delivered to the UV and wicking systems. When the unit is on, the water moves very slowly past the UV system. This is ample time to destroy germs, fungus and mold that may be present in the water. The water is then delivered to the filter/wick. This saturated wick not only filters the air, but also provides moisture to the humidifier fan, which in turn, delivers germ free* moisture to the room.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Q: I hear the fan turning, but I don't see any mist. Is my humidifier operating properly?

A: Dry air is pulled through the system and a fan disperses invisible, moisture balanced air. There is no "mist" emitted. When operating normally you will feel only cool air coming from the unit. Monitor the water level in your Tank/ Base. If you notice a decrease in the Water Tank over 24 hours then the unit is operating normally.
Q: My unit has been running for several hours. I hear the fan spinning, but I do not notice the water level in the tank decreasing.
A: First, check the filter to ensure it is wet. If the pad appears dry, remove it from the Base and gently rinse under cool water. Reposition wet filter in the Base. You may also want to note the current moisture level in your home. If the humidity level is over 60% the unit will not put out much moisture as your air is already saturated. Also verify the upper enclosure and water tank are properly seated.
Q: My filter has turned light brown and rust colored. Do I need a new filter?
A: Probably not. Since your filter has been made with Protec™ antimicrobial the change in color indicates only a mineral deposit. Soak filter in a sink full of cool water to help break up deposits. The discoloration may remain but will not affect the humidifier's performance.
Q: My humidifier doesn't appear to be as clean as when I first purchased and/or I'm smelling an unpleasant odor. What should I do?
A: You probably need to replace your Protec™ Antimicrobial Cartridge. This cartridge helps your humidifier stay cleaner, longer and helps freshen the mist. If you have been using your humidifier regularly for over 30 days replace the Protec™ cartridge and follow the cleaning instructions.
