Frequently Asked Questions - USB TO PARALLEL TARGUS

How to install the driver for Windows 98/ME?
Insert the driver CD into the drive. If installation does not start automatically, click Start, Run, type D:\Setup.exe and follow the instructions. Important: install the driver before connecting the adapter.
My parallel printer does not work after connection, what should I do?
First check that the adapter is properly connected. Then, ensure your printer driver is installed and that the selected port is USB001 (USB port). If necessary, redirect the port from the printer properties (see section 'Checking and redirecting port settings').
Is a driver required for Windows XP or Vista?
No, for Windows 2000, XP and Vista, the system automatically recognizes the adapter. Simply plug in the USB cable and use the device. No driver is needed.
How to check if the adapter is detected by the computer?
Open Device Manager (right-click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager). Expand 'Universal Serial Bus controllers': you should see 'USB Printing Support' or a similar device.
What to do if 'Device not recognized' message appears?
Unplug and replug the adapter. If the problem persists, try another USB port. For Windows 98/ME, ensure the driver is installed before connecting the adapter.
How to select the correct port when installing the printer?
When installing the printer driver, choose the port USB001 (USB port). If this port does not appear, temporarily select LPT1, then redirect the port to USB001 in the printer properties (see manual).
My printer is recognized but does not print, why?
Check the printer port settings: go to Start > Settings > Printers, right-click the printer > Properties. Under the Details or Connections tab, ensure the port is set to USB001. If it is LPT1, change it to USB001.
Can I use this adapter with a parallel scanner?
Yes, the adapter is designed for any standard parallel device. Connect the device to the adapter's parallel port, then install its drivers as usual.
What is the cable length?
The manual does not specify the exact length, but it is a compact adapter with a USB cable about 15 to 30 cm, convenient for mobile use.
Where to find drivers if I lost the CD?
Visit the Targus support website: http://www.targus.com/fr/support.asp. You can download drivers for Windows 98/ME there. For Windows 2000/XP/Vista, no driver is needed.
