Frequently Asked Questions - LinkGain Black Box
What is a Wi-Fi repeater and how does the LinkGain work?
A Wi-Fi repeater extends the coverage of your existing wireless network. The LinkGain receives the signal from your router, amplifies it, and rebroadcasts it to create a stronger connection in areas with poor coverage.
How do I set up the LinkGain repeater?
Plug the repeater into a power outlet within range of your existing Wi-Fi. Press the WPS button on the router, then press the WPS button on the repeater. Alternatively, use a computer or smartphone to connect to the repeater's default network and follow the web setup wizard.
How do I reset the device to factory settings?
With the device powered on, use a pointed object to press and hold the Reset hole for about 5 seconds until the LED blinks. The repeater will restart with the default factory settings.
What security protocols are supported?
The LinkGain supports WEP, WPA and WPA2 encryption to protect your network from unauthorized access. It is recommended to use WPA2 for maximum security.
What should I do if the signal strength is weak?
Place the repeater halfway between the router and the dead zone, avoiding walls and metal objects. Adjust the antenna position if possible, and use a Wi-Fi analyzer to find the best channel. Ensure the router is transmitting on a compatible band.
Can I use the Ethernet port to connect a wired device?
Yes, the integrated 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port allows you to connect a wired device, such as a smart TV or game console, to your network through the repeater.
How do I update the firmware?
Download the latest firmware from the Black Box website. Access the repeater's management interface via its IP address, go to 'System Tools' or 'Firmware Upgrade', select the downloaded file, and click update. Do not disconnect power during the process.
Is the repeater compatible with all routers?
The LinkGain works with any router that uses the IEEE 802.11b/g/n standard on the 2.4 GHz band. It is not limited to a specific brand.
What do the LED indicators mean?
The Power LED shows the device is on, the Signal LED indicates the signal strength (green for good, amber for weak), and the Ethernet LED lights up when a wired device is connected.
How to care and clean the device?
Disconnect the repeater from power before cleaning. Wipe it with a dry soft cloth; do not use water, solvents or abrasive cleaners. Keep the vents free of dust and debris.
