How to reset the switch to factory defaults?
Press and hold the Reset button on the front of the switch for about 5 seconds until the LEDs flash. Release, the device will restart with default settings.
How to access the web management interface?
Connect via a browser to the default IP address 10.90.90.90 (or the one assigned by DHCP). Use username admin and empty password (default).
How to configure a VLAN on the DES-3852?
From the web interface, go to Configuration > VLAN > 802.1Q VLAN. Create a new VLAN, assign member ports and set the mode (tagged/untagged).
How to update the firmware?
Download the firmware from D-Link website. In the web management, go to Tools > Firmware Upgrade, select the file and click Upgrade. Do not turn off power during the operation.
How to connect a console cable?
Use the supplied RS-232 serial cable (RJ45 to DB9). Connect the console port of the switch to the serial port of your PC. Use a terminal emulator (PuTTY) with settings: 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity, no flow control.
What do the LED indicators on the front panel mean?
The green Power LED indicates power. Each port has two LEDs: Link/Act (solid green = link, flashing = activity) and Speed (green = 100 Mbps, off = 10 Mbps). SFP LEDs are yellow for link.

Use the stacking ports (on the back) with dedicated stacking cables. Configure one master switch and slaves via the Stacking menu in the web interface or CLI. Assign a unique stack ID to each unit.
