Frequently Asked Questions - CFS-516DFD Vivax

How do I set the temperature on my Vivax CFS-516DFD refrigerator?
Use the thermostat dial inside the fridge section. Turn it to a medium setting (around 3-4) for normal use. The recommended temperature is 4°C for the fridge and -18°C for the freezer.
Why is my fridge making unusual noises?
Normal operation includes sounds like gurgling (refrigerant flow), clicking (thermostat), or humming (compressor). If the noise is loud or irregular, ensure the fridge is level and not touching walls or cabinets.
How often should I defrost the freezer?
Defrost when ice thickness exceeds 5-7 mm. Use the manual defrost method: turn off, remove food, allow ice to melt. Do not use sharp tools to remove ice.
Can I reverse the door opening direction?
Yes, the door is reversible. Refer to the manual for step-by-step instructions. You will need a screwdriver and possibly a helper to hold the door.
What should I do if the fridge is not cooling enough?
Check the thermostat setting, ensure the door is sealing properly, and clean the condenser coils (typically at the back or bottom). Also verify that the fridge is not overloaded and that air vents are not blocked.
How do I clean the interior of the freezer?
Unplug the fridge, remove all food, and defrost. Wipe surfaces with a mixture of warm water and mild detergent. Rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly before plugging back in.
Is it normal for the sides of the fridge to feel warm?
Yes, the sides may feel warm due to the condenser pipes inside the walls. This helps remove heat from the interior. Ensure there is adequate ventilation space around the fridge.
How long can food be stored during a power failure?
In case of power failure, keep the doors closed. The freezer can keep food frozen for up to 10 hours if full; less if partially full. Use ice packs to extend the time.
What type of light bulb does the fridge use?
This model uses an LED light for the interior. It is energy-efficient and long-lasting. If it fails, contact a qualified technician for replacement.
Where can I find the serial number and model number?
The rating plate is located inside the fridge compartment, usually on the side wall or behind the salad drawer. It contains the model number (CFS-516DFD) and serial number.

For additional information about possible storage duration, check the packaging of the product or food.

Never freeze again already thawed food.

Tips for Keeping Food in the Unit

◆ Store raw meat and fish in suitable containers in the refrigerator, so that they do not come into contact with or drip onto other food. Cooked meats/fishes should always be stored on a shelf above raw meats/fishes to avoid bacterial transfer. Keep raw meats/fishes in a container which is large enough to collect juices and cover it properly. Place the container on the lowest shelf. Leave space around your food to allow air to circulate inside the unit. Ensure all parts of the unit are kept cool. ◆ To prevent transfer of flavors and drying out, pack or cover the food separately. Fruit and vegetables do not need to be wrapped. ◆ Always let pre-cooked food cool down before you put it in the unit. This will help to maintain the internal temperature of the unit. ◆ To avoid contamination of the food, please respect the following instructions:

  • Opening the door for long periods can cause a significant increase in the temperature of the compartments of the appliance.
  • Clean regularly surfaces that can come in contact with food and accessible drainage systems.
  • Clean water tanks if they have not been used for 48 hours; flush the water system connected to a water supply if water has not been drawn for 5 days.
  • To prevent cold air escaping from the unit, try to limit the number of times you open the door. We recommend that you only open the door when you need to put food in or take food out.

- In case that your device has freezing compartment with 4 stars, this refrigerating appliance is suitable for freezing foodstuffs.

In case that your device has freezing compartment with 1, 2 or 3 stars, this refrigerating appliance is NOT suitable for freezing foodstuffs.

  • Two-star * frozen-food compartments are suitable for storing pre-frozen food, storing or making ice cream and making ice cubes.
  • One-, two- and three-star * compartments are not suitable for the freezing of fresh food.
  • If the refrigerating appliance is left empty for long periods, switch off, defrost, clean, dry, and leave the door open to prevent mould developing within the appliance.

IMPORTANT: When you set the higher temperature in the refrigerator, in that case the compressor will not switch on often or it will be turned off for some period of time, but this does not mean that the refrigerator is disconnected from the power supply. For cleaning and maintenance, be sure to disconnect the power supply device by pulling the plug out of the socket!

Noise Inside the Unit!

You may notice that your unit makes some unusual noises. Most of these are perfectly normal, but you should be aware of them!

These noises are caused by the circulation of the refrigerant liquid in the cooling system. It has become more pronounced since the introduction of CFC free gases. This is not a fault and will not affect the performance of your unit. This is the compressor motor working, as it pumps the refrigerant around the system.

Change the Light Bulb

The LED lamp must be replaced by authorized service.

Maintenance of Refrigerator

Cleaning

Vivax CFS-516DFD - Cleaning - 1

Please unplug the refrigerator for defrost and cleaning.

Dusts behind the refrigerator and on the ground shall be timely cleaned to improve the cooling effect and energy saving.

The interior of the refrigerator should be cleaned regularly to avoid odor. Soft towels or sponge dipped in water and non-corrosive neutral detergents are suggested for cleaning. The freezer shall be finally cleaned with clean water and dry cloth. Open the door for natural drying before the power is turned on.

◆ Remove all the shelves and the salad bin. To remove the salad bin first remove the lower door shelf. ◆ Wipe the inside of the unit with a weak solution of bicarbonate soda and then rinse with warm water using a “wrung-out” sponge or cloth. Wipe completely dry before replacing the shelves and salad bin. Use a damp cloth to clean the exterior, and then wipe with a standard furniture polish. Make sure that the door is closed to avoid the polish getting on the magnetic door seal or inside the unit. ◆ The grille of the condenser at the back (if exists) of the unit and the adjacent components can be vacuumed using a soft brush attachment.

Shelf removal:

According to the direction arrow in the figure below, use both hands to squeeze the tray, and push it upward, then you can take it out.

Illustration of hands holding a rectangular object with arrows indicating direction (no text or symbols)

Cleaning Tips

Condensation may appear on the outside of the unit. This may be due to a change in room temperature. Wipe off any moisture residue. If the problem continues, please contact a qualified technician for assistance.

Do not use hard brushes, clean steel balls, wire brushes, abrasives, such as toothpastes, organic solvents (such as alcohol, acetone, banana oil, etc.), boiling water, acid or alkaline items to clean the refrigerator, considering that this may damage the fridge surface and interior. Do not rinse with water so as not to affect the electrical insulation properties. Please use a dry cloth when cleaning lighting lamps, temperature control knob and electrical components.

Defrost

Your unit is a NO FROST refrigerator type.

NO FROST means that the refrigerator cools the chambers in a way that the fan blows cool air inside the refrigerator chambers. This results in significantly less accumulation of ice and frost and reduces moisture. In such a dry atmosphere, it significantly extends the life of food preservation.

Accordingly, it is not necessary to provide any defrost process for the Refrigerator or Freezing compartments.

The unit provides an auto defrost cycling process automatically.

It is necessary to clean the refrigerator. If an occasional accumulation of ice or frost happens, during the regular cleaning, while the refrigerator is disconnected from the power supply, there will be melting frost or ice. Make sure the inside of the refrigerator is completely dry before you reconnect to the power supply.

Vivax CFS-516DFD - Defrost - 1

Do not use metal utensils or electric heaters for defrost so as not to damage the appliance.

Please remove the food and put it in a cool place when defrosting before removing drawers and other accessories.

Switching Off for Long Periods of Time

Foods can be preserved for a couple of hours even in summer in case of power failure; it is recommended to reduce the frequency of opening the door and do not put fresh foods into the freezer.

When the unit is not in use for a long period of time, disconnect it from the mains supply, empty all food and clean the appliance. Keep the door open to avoid bad odor.

Vivax CFS-516DFD - Switching Off for Long Periods of Time - 1

Continuous operation is recommended when the refrigerator is started.

Please do not move the refrigerator under normal circumstances so as not to affect the refrigerator's service life.

Frequently asked questions

The following simple issues can be handled by the user. Please call the after-sale service department if the issues are not settled.

Refrigerator is not workWhether the freezer is plugged and connected to power; Low voltage;Failure power or tripping circuit
OdorOdorous foods should closely wrapped; Whether foods are rotten;Whether the interior shall be cleaned
Foods in the refrigerating chamber are frozenWhether the thermostat is over adjusted; Whether foods containing water is put in inside the glass partition.
Long-term operation of compressorIt is normal that refrigerator operates for longer time in summer when the ambient temperature is higher; Do not put too much food in the freezer at one time; Do not put foods until they are cooled;Frequent opening of refrigerator door.Thick frost layer (defrost is needed)
The refrigerator door cannot be properly closed. The freezer door is stuck by food packages; Too much food; Tilt refrigerator.
Loud noisesWhether the food is leveled, whether the refrigerator is balanced;Whether the refrigerator parts are properly placed.

Warm tips:

The refrigerator enclosure may emit heat during operation, especially in summer. This is caused by the radiation of the condenser and is a normal phenomenon. Condensation: Condensation may be detected on the exterior surface and door seals of the freezer when the ambient humidity is high. This is a normal phenomenon, and the condensation can be wiped away with a dry towel. Airflow sound: Refrigerants circulating in the refrigerant lines will produce sounds of eruption and grunts, which is normal and does not affect the cooling effect. Buzz: A buzz will be generated by the running compressor, especially when starting up or shutting down. Clatter: The solenoid valve or electric switch valve may clatter, which is a normal phenomenon and does not affect operation. The refrigerating chamber will periodically frost and defrost (water drops will be generated on the backside of the refrigerating chamber when defrosting), which is normal.

Tips for energy savings

Try not to open the door too often, especially when the weather is wet and hot. Once you open the door, close it as soon as possible.

Every now and then, check if the appliance is sufficiently ventilated (adequate air circulation behind the appliance).

In normal temperature conditions, please set the thermostat to the middle setting.

Before loading the appliance with packages of fresh food, make sure they are cooled to ambient temperature.

Ice and frost layers increase energy consumption, so clean the appliance as soon as the layer is 3-5 mm thick.

If it is the outer condenser, the rear wall should always be kept clean and free of dust or any impurities. The appliance should be located in the coolest area of the room, away from heat-producing appliances or heating ducts, and out of direct sunlight. Let hot foods cool to room temperature before placing them in the appliance. Overloading the appliance forces the compressor to run longer. Foods that freeze too slowly may lose quality or spoil. Be sure to wrap foods properly and wipe containers dry before placing them in the appliance. This cuts down on frost build-up inside the appliance. The appliance storage bin should not be lined with aluminum foil, wax paper, or paper toweling. Liners interfere with cold air circulation, making the appliance less efficient. Organize and label food to reduce door openings and extended searches. Remove as many items as needed at one time, and close the door as soon as possible.
