How do I fill the salt/pepper mill?

Unscrew the top cap. Fill the chamber with whole, dry salt or pepper corns. Do not overfill. Screw the cap back on tightly.

How do I adjust the coarseness of the grind?

Turn the knob at the top of the mill. Turn clockwise for finer grind, counterclockwise for coarser grind. Adjust while grinding to see the result.

What type of batteries does the mill use?

It uses 4 x AA batteries (alkaline recommended). Batteries are not included.

Why is the mill not grinding?

Check if batteries are installed correctly and have power. Ensure the grinding chamber is not empty. Also check if the coarseness setting is not too fine, which can jam the mechanism.

How do I clean the mill?

Wipe the exterior with a dry cloth. Do not immerse in water or use abrasive cleaners. Clean the grinding mechanism periodically by running dry rice through it (then discard).

Can I grind wet salt or pepper?

No, only use dry, whole corns. Moisture can damage the ceramic mechanism and cause clogging.

How long do the batteries last?

With typical use (several seconds per day), alkaline batteries last about 3 months. Reduce usage to extend battery life.

Is the mill waterproof?

No. The mill is not waterproof. Protect it from moisture. Wipe spills immediately.

What should I do if the mill stops working?

Replace batteries with new ones. If it still doesn't work, contact SilverCrest customer service. Do not attempt to disassemble the mill yourself.

Can I get spare parts or repair the mill?

Spare parts are not sold separately. The mill is not user-repairable. For issues, refer to the service center or your local store.

Safety instructions for rechargeable batteries

If the rechargeable battery has not been used for any length of time, remove it from the appliance.
CAUTION! DANGER OF EXPLOSION! Never attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries!
■ Make sure you fit rechargeable batteries the right way round (polarity). The correct orientation is shown in the battery compartment.
- Clean the rechargeable battery and appliance contact before insertion if necessary.
- Immediately remove any exhausted rechargeable battery from the appliance. There is an increased risk of leakage otherwise!
■ Rechargeable batteries should not be disposed of with domestic waste.
■ Every consumer is legally obliged to dispose of rechargeable batteries according to the statutory regulations!

• Keep rechargeable batteries away from children; do not throw rechargeable batteries into a fire; do not short-circuit the batteries and do not take them apart.
  Do not let the fluid from a leaking rechargeable battery come into contact with your skin, eyes or mucous membranes. In the event of contact with fluid leaking from a rechargeable battery, thoroughly flush the affected area with water and / or seek the advice of a doctor!
• On no account should you use non-rechargeable batteries.

Use

- Insert Batteries / Filling of the salt and pepper mill

Indication: The salt and pepper mill is intended for peppercorns or coarse salt.

Proceed as follows (see Figs. A / B):

1. Hold the lower part with the container 4 tightly and turn the top part 1 anti-clockwise.
2. Now please pull the top part 1 off the base with container 4.
3. Pull the motor compartment 3 carefully off the base with container 4. Pull the battery ring 11 off the motor compartment 3.
4. Insert the 6 AAA 1,5 V= rechargeable batteries supplied.

Indication: Pay attention to the right polarity. This is shown in the battery compartment.

1. Place the battery ring 11 back to the motor compartment 3.
2. Fill up the base with container 4 with peppercorns or coarse salt. The best result will be achieved when filling the base with container 4 up to approx. 75 %.
3. Put the motor compartment 3 back on the base with container 4.

Note: Make sure that the contacts 9 and 10 lie precisely on top of each other.

1. Put the top part 1 back on the base with container 4.
2. Hold the lower section with the container 4 tightly and turn the upper section 1 in a clock-

wise direction until it is tight (note the markings on the device).

• Using of the salt and pepper mill

□ Remove the cover 5.
☐ Please keep the button 2 pushed to activate the salt and pepper mill. The bulb 8 on the base of the salt and pepper mill will then be simultaneously activated.

Note: Use the mill only when the container 4 is full and do not leave the mill switched on uninterrupted for longer than 1 minute so that it does not overheat. After using the mill for one minute, let it cool down for at least 3 minutes before switching it on again.

- Adjusting the grinding level

Turn the adjustable screw 7 clockwise to receive a finer grinding level.
☐ Turn the adjustable screw 7 anticlockwise to receive a coarser grinding level (see fig. C).

Note: If you can no longer turn the grinder when it is adjusted to very fine, you have to select a coarser setting. If the grinder still does not turn, it may be clogged up. Release the adjustment screw 7 and take out the grinder. Clean it, place it back in position and then retighten the adjustment screw 7.

● Recharging the salt / pepper mill again

□ Remove the cover 5.
Place the charging station 6 onto a stable and level surface. Insert the adaptor 12 into the charging station 6 and then connect it to a socket.
Place the salt / peppermill with the Silvercrest logo facing towards the front on the charging station 6 in order to start the charging process. The charging time is approximately 3 hours.

Note: The red LED light on the mill will shine during the charging process. It will go out when the rechargeable batteries have been completely recharged.

- Replacing the light

Note: Remove the rechargeable batteries before replacing the light bulb in order to avoid switching the salt / pepper mill on by accident. Only use light bulbs of the same type and the same wattage as you could otherwise damage the mill.

☐ Turn the salt / pepper mill around so that the grinder and the lighting 8 are at the top.
□ Carefully remove the light bulb from the bulb socket.
☐ Insert the new light bulb into the bulb socket.

● Cleaning and Maintenance

☐ The device should only be cleaned on the outside with a soft dry cloth.
☐ Under no circumstances should you use liquids or detergents, as these will damage the device.

- Disposal

The packaging is made entirely of recyclable materials, which you may dispose of at local recycling facilities.

Contact your local refuse disposal authority for more details of how to dispose of your worn-out product.

To help protect the environment, please dispose of the product properly when it has reached the end of its useful life and not in the household waste. Information on collection points and their opening hours can be obtained from your local authority.

Faulty or used batteries must be recycled in accordance with Directive 2006 / 66 / EC. Please return the batteries and / or the device to the available collection points.

Environmental damage through incorrect disposal of the batteries!

Batteries may not be disposed of with the usual domestic waste. They may contain toxic heavy metals and are subject to hazardous waste treatment rules and regulations. The chemical symbols for heavy metals are as follows: Cd = cadmium, Hg = mercury, Pb = lead. That is why you should dispose of used batteries at a local collection point.
