Frequently Asked Questions - SHF 1500 A1 SILVERCREST

What type of oil should I use in the SilverCrest SHF 1500 A1?
Use high-smoke-point oils like vegetable, canola, or peanut oil. Avoid olive oil or butter as they burn easily.
How do I clean the deep fryer?
Unplug and let it cool completely. Remove the oil container and basket. Wash them with warm soapy water (dishwasher safe parts). Wipe the base with a damp cloth. Never submerge the base in water.
What is the maximum oil capacity?
The maximum oil capacity is 2.5 liters. Do not exceed the MAX mark inside the container.
Can I use the deep fryer without oil?
No, this is a traditional deep fryer that requires oil for frying. Do not use it dry.
How do I set the temperature?
Turn the thermostat knob to the desired temperature between 150°C and 190°C. The indicator light will turn off when the oil reaches the set temperature.
Why does the fryer shut off during use?
The fryer has overheat protection. If it shuts off, let it cool down, then check for blocked vents or excessive oil. Reset by unplugging and plugging back in.
Can I fry frozen food directly?
Yes, but pat dry excess ice to avoid oil splatter. Lower the basket slowly to prevent rapid temperature drop.
How often should I change the oil?
Change oil after 8-12 uses or when it becomes dark, smelly, or foamy. Strain oil after each use to extend its life.
Is the frying basket dishwasher safe?
Yes, the basket is dishwasher safe. However, hand washing is recommended to prolong its coating.
What should I do if the fryer smells like burning plastic?
This is normal during first use as manufacturing residues burn off. Run the fryer empty at 190°C for 10 minutes in a well-ventilated area. If smell persists, contact customer service.

4. Items supplied

1 hot air fryer 12
1 pan 10
1 frying basket 6
1 copy of the user instructions

5. The basics of frying

Preparation of the food

  • All food must be as dry as possible when used for frying. Dry the food to be fried and remove any ice from frozen food.
  • When using deep-frozen food, remove as much water and ice as possible before you put the food into the hot air fryer.
    • In case of breaded food, please make sure that the breading sticks as tightly as possible to the food to be fried.

Frying time and frying temperature

  • For a tasty and healthy result, the information on the packaging should be observed very carefully when selecting the temperature and the frying time.
  • Only small quantities should be fried at a time.
  • The frying basket 6 must not be filled more than up to the MAX marking.
  • Acrylamide may be carcinogenic. In order to reduce the formation of acrylamide as much as possible, browning the food too much should be avoided.
  • The temperatures indicated in the frying table are approximate values. The temperature may vary depending on the texture, size, and quantity of the food, as well as your taste. Without preheating the indicated times will be 3 to 4 minutes longer.

That's how raw potatoes should be

  • The potatoes should have a firm skin and not yet have sprouted.
  • Floury or mainly waxy potatoes should be used.
  • The potatoes should not be too small and be of approximately the same size. This facilitates the processing.

Treat fresh, raw potatoes with oil ^1

- If you want to produce potato wedges or chips from raw potatoes, turn them in a little oil first. This will lead to a better result.

NOTE: with deep-frozen chips and similar products such turning in oil will not be necessary as they are already pre-fried.

For an even browning ^23

If the food (e.g. when making chips or chicken nuggets) requires an even browning, give it 1 - 2 shakes during the frying process.

  1. Use the handle 9 to pull the pan 10 together with the frying basket 6 out of the device 12 and shake the contents. While shaking make sure that the chips are being thoroughly mixed and that the still rawer ones at the basket centre will get to the outside. When the pan 10 with the

frying basket 6 is taken out, the device is automatically switched off.

  1. Reinsert the pan 10 with the frying basket 6 into the device 12. The device will automatically be switched on again and work until the timer expires.

^2 : shake after one third and two thirds of the cooking time
^3 : shake halfway through the cooking time.

Baking

Dough may never be filled directly into the frying basket 6. After preparing the dough put it into a baking tin or another heat-resistant pan (e.g. muffin liners). Then put the container holding the dough into the frying basket 6.

Package instructions

If on a package of deep-frozen food you don't find information regarding the cooking times for hot air fryers, observe the times given for convection ovens.

  • If specified in the recipe, use the handle 9 to take the pan 10 together with the frying basket 6 out of the hot air fryer 12 and shake the contents during the running time.
  • When according to the recipe the dish is ready, either use tongs to take larger food out of the frying basket 6 or fill the basket contents into a bowl.

  • Prepare the yoghurt dip while the chips (potato strips) are cooking. Use a small bowl to mix the yoghurt with the garden herbs (parsley and chives). Season with salt and pepper.
  • Let the chips drip off in a screen lined with kitchen paper. Sprinkle with salt.
