English Thank you for buying this Krups appliance, which is intended for domestic use only. Read the instructions in this leaflet carefully and keep them within reach. They apply to every version depending on the accessories that come with your appliance. NEVER LEAVE THE APPLIANCE UNATTENDED WHEN IN USE This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities,or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by an adult responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. Accessible surface temperatures can be high when the appliance is operating. Never touch the hot surfaces of the appliance. Never leave the appliance unattended when plugged in or in use. If an accident occurs, rinse the burn immediately with cold water and call a doctor if necessary. Cooking fumes may be dangerous for animals which have a particularly sensitive respiratory system, such as birds. We advise bird owners to keep them away from the cooking area. INSTALLATION Never place the appliance directly on a fragile surface (glass table, tablecloth, varnished furniture, etc.). Never place the unit on or near hot or slippery surfaces; never leave the cord hanging over a heat source (hotplates, gas stove, etc.). Always use on a flat, stable, heat-resistant work surface away from water splashes and other sources of heat. Open the appliance. CONNECTION AND PRE-HEATING
Close the appliance. Fully unwind the power cord. Make sure that the electric power supply is compatible with the power rating and voltage indicated on the bottom of the appliance. Always plug the appliance into an earthed socket. If an extension lead is used: - make sure to choose an extension lead of equivalent diameter with an earthed socket; - take every precaution to ensure that people cannot become caught up or trip over an extension lead.
If the power supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or its service agent or a similarly qualified person in order to avoid a hazard. This appliance is not intended to be operated by means of an external timer or separate remote-control system. Unlock the appliance using the two safety catches - B on the sides of the appliance - 7. Never handle the safety catches when the appliance is hot. Always unlock the waffle maker before turning on. Check that the thermostat - D is in the mini position light - 1 will light up. , then plug the cord into a socket: the red On first use, there may be a slight odour and a little smoke during the first few minutes; this is normal. Pre-heat the waffle maker for 5 to 7 minutes by turning the browness selector to the desired setting - 2. For pre-heating, place the thermostat selector on the chosen cooking position. The green light - 3 will light up when the waffle maker reaches the desired cooking temperature. COOKING Each time the waffle maker is used, wait until the green light comes on before pouring batter into the waffle maker plates. Close the waffle maker during the cooking cycle. Do not lock the safety catches on the sides of the waffle maker when cooking. At the back of the waffle maker there is a unique batter tray - A. This tray catches any excess batter during the cooking cycle. We recommend emptying this tray when the waffle maker is cold. Use oven mitts if the tray must be emptied while the appliance is hot and in use - 6. Clean the back of the waffle plates between cooking operations. Use a nonstick safe kitchen ustensil to remove the waffle from the waffle maker - 9 The handle will remain cool during cooking - 4. Do not touch the metal body of the waffle maker when the appliance is hot - 5. Never run the appliance empty. Tips for better cooking results Each time the waffle maker is used, wipe a small amount of cooking oil onto the waffle plates, then wipe with a soft cloth. Pour the batter with the ladle - E into each waffle plate. The amount of batter should not go past the separation line between the two cooking plates - 8. Increase or reduce the waffle colour to suit your taste, using the 8-position browning indicator. The green light is an indicator that the waffle maker is ready to use. The green light goes out and lights up again regularly during the cooking process, to show that the selected temperature is maintained. Caution: this does not indicate that the waffle is cooked. Depending on the type of batter used, cooking cycle times will vary. Some steam will be produced during cooking cycles, this is normal and allows for a fuller waffle. During the cooking cycle, the top of the waffle maker will drift upward, allowing the waffle batter to fully expand into the plate cavities. Do not impede this movement. Never lock the waffle maker when in use. Cooking time depends on the kind and the quantity of batter used in the waffle maker. Cooking time typically takes 3 to 5 minutes.
Unplug the electrical cord from the wall socket. Leave the appliance open to allow it to cool. Do not pour very cold water into the waffle maker when it is hot. Clean the body of the appliance using a sponge and washing-up liquid. To clean the waffle plates: - once the appliance is cold, brush with a non metal brush to remove any crumbs. - rinse the plates with a damp sponge, then wipe with a soft cloth. - wash the excess batter tray under water with a sponge and washing-up liquid. This appliance is not dishwasher safe. Do not use a scouring pad or scouring powder. Do not immerse the appliance in water. Never immerse the appliance or electrical cord in water. STORING The appliance can be stored vertically to save space. Use the locks to store the waffle maker in a vertical position - 10 or when moving the waffle maker. Close the appliance and lock it shut with the closing clip. Wind the electrical cord in the space designed for storage. RECIPE Traditionnal waffle A superb recipe for thick and copious waffles. Thermostat setting 8 Cooking time: approximately 3 min 30 to 4 min 30 For approximately 12 waffles. Ingredients: - 300 g plain flour, - 10 g (2 teaspoons) baking powder, - pinch salt, - 75 g sugar, - 100 g melted butter, - 2 eggs, - 1/2 litre milk.
- Combine the flour and baking powder in a bowl.
- Make a well in the centre and add the salt, sugar, melted butter and eggs.
- Gradually add the milk.
- Let the mixture stand for 1 hour, then pour it into the waffle maker with the ladle - E: 4 ladles filled up to the line (5 mm from the edge) - 8.
- Close the waffle maker and cook for the recommended time. Once the waffles are golden brown, put them on a plate and enjoy them sprinkled with icing sugar.
