Frequently Asked Questions - TD-9 ROLAND

How to turn on and off the TD-9?
Press the POWER button to turn on. To turn off, hold down POWER until 'POWER OFF' appears on the screen. Make sure to lower the volume before powering off.
How to connect pads to the module?
Use the included DB-25 cable. Plug it into the TRIGGER INPUT on the module, then connect each pad and pedal to the corresponding jacks (labels indicate which pad to connect). Follow the connection diagram in the manual.
How to select a drum kit?
Press the KIT button to display the DRUM KIT page. Use the [+]/[-] buttons or the dial to scroll through the 50 preset kits. The kit number and name appear on the screen.
How to save my settings?
Settings are saved automatically when you turn off the TD-9 with the POWER button. To save to a USB flash drive, go to SETUP > UTILITY > USB > SAVE and choose 'BACKUP' to save all settings.
Can I use headphones with the TD-9?
Yes, plug stereo headphones (6.35 mm jack) into the PHONES jack. The OUTPUT jacks remain active even with headphones connected.
How to adjust pad sensitivity?
Press SETUP, then F2 (BASIC) to access sensitivity settings. Select the pad by hitting it, then adjust the Sensitivity and Threshold parameters with the dial or the +/- buttons.
The metronome sound is not heard, why?
Check that the metronome is activated by pressing CLICK (TEMPO) (the button should light up). Make sure the metronome volume is not at zero: hold SHIFT + CLICK (TEMPO), then press F2 (INST) to adjust the volume.
How to perform a cross stick on the snare?
Enable the Cross Stick function by pressing KIT > F3 (XSTICK) (the icon appears). Play by striking only the rim of the pad to produce the cross stick sound. This function is only available with compatible snare instruments (marked with *X in the list).
The module does not turn on, what to do?
Check that the AC adapter is properly connected to the module and to a working outlet. Make sure the adapter's indicator light is on. If the problem persists, try another compatible adapter (DC 9V, 500 mA).
How to update the firmware of the TD-9?
Roland does not offer public firmware updates for the TD-9. If an update is needed, contact Roland customer support. To restore factory settings, go to SETUP > UTILITY > RESET and follow the on-screen instructions.

As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this apparatus may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows:

The wire which is coloured BLUE must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured BLACK. The wire which is coloured BROWN must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured RED. Under no circumstances must either of the above wires be connected to the earth terminal of a three pin plug.
