How to install the Steinel ST 593414 motion detector?

Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician. Turn off the power supply before any intervention. Attach the wall bracket, connect the wires (live, neutral, lamp) to the terminal block, then clip the detector. Refer to the user manual for details.

How to adjust the detector sensitivity?

Use the sensitivity potentiometer (SENS) located under the cover. Turn clockwise to increase the detection range (up to 12 m) or counterclockwise to reduce it. Perform a detection test after adjustment.

What to do if the detector does not turn on?

First check that the power supply is present and the fuse has not blown. Ensure the brightness threshold (LUX) is set correctly (day position for testing). Also check that the time delay (TIME) is not too short. If the problem persists, contact customer service.

How to adjust the brightness threshold?

The LUX potentiometer sets the brightness level below which the detector activates. For night-only operation, turn toward the moon symbol. For day and night operation, turn toward the sun. Use a screwdriver to adjust.

What is the maximum detection range?

The range is 12 meters with a detection angle of 180°. This range may vary depending on environmental conditions (temperature, obstacles). For optimal detection, avoid heat sources (radiators, air conditioners) in the field of view.

Can the detector be used outdoors?

Yes, the IP44 protection rating ensures weather resistance (rain, dust). However, avoid direct exposure to heavy rain or pressurized water. Mount it under an eave if necessary.

How to clean the detector?

Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the lens and housing. Never use chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as they could damage the sensor and housing.

Is the connected lamp flashing? What is the problem?

Flashing may indicate an overload (the lamp power exceeds the detector's maximum capacity, typically 1000W for incandescent lamp). Check your lamp power and reduce it if necessary. It could also be due to poor electrical contact.

Is it possible to replace the PIR sensor?

Yes, the PIR sensor is a replaceable part. You can order a replacement sensor from Steinel or an authorized dealer. Disconnect the device, open the housing, disconnect the defective sensor and connect the new one. Refer to the manual for exact part numbers.

What is the warranty for this detector?

Operating instructions

Dear Customer,

Congratulations on purchasing your new STEINEL presence detector and thank you for the confidence you have shown in us. You have chosen a high-quality product that has been manufactured, tested and packed with the greatest care.

Please familiarise yourself with these instructions before attempting to install the light because prolonged, reliable and trouble-free operation will only be ensured if it is fitted and used properly.

We hope your new STEINEL presence detector will bring you lasting pleasure.

Safety warnings

■ Disconnect the power supply before attempting any work on the presence detector.
During installation, the electric power cable to be connected must not be live. Therefore, switch off the power first and use a voltage tester to make sure the wiring is off circuit.

Installing the presence detector involves work on the mains power supply. This work must therefore be carried out professionally in accordance with the applicable national wiring regulations and electrical operating conditions (VDE 0100).
Note: The external button's cable ⑦ is not intended for connecting loads to the neutral terminal.

Terminal B 1, B 2 is a switching contact for low-energy circuits, not more than 1 A. This must be protected a fuse of the appropriate rating.
■ Only electronic ballasts with a floating control signal may be used at DIM 1-10 V control output.

Assembly / Installation (see fig. on page 2)

The presence detector is only intended for recessed installation in cavity ceilings and in the Kaiser HaloX-O system.

Presence detector and load module are supplied disconnected. The presence detector must be plugged into load module after connecting the load module to the power supply. The maximum cable diameter for connection leads is 12 mm. Cable length between sensor and button < 50 m.

How it works / Basic function

The infrared presence detectors from the Control PRO range control lighting as well as heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (COM 2 only), e.g. in offices, schools, public buildings or at home, in relation to ambient light level and the presence of per-

sons. The pyro-sensor with highly advanced lens provides a square detection zone, as the typical shape of a room, in which the smallest of movements are sensed. The presence detector's switching outputs are set using the remote controls RC 5 and RC 8.

Presence Control has a low intrinsic power consumption.

The square detection zone and the ability to interconnect the master/slave versions provide the basis for creating optimum configurations quickly and easily.

Electrical installation / Automatic mode

In selecting the wiring leads, it is important to meet the wiring regulations laid down in VDE 0100 (see Safety warnings on page 17). Wiring up the presence detector: Under section 6 of VDE 0100 520, a multiple-core

lead containing both the mains voltage leads and the control leads (e.g. NYM 5 x 1.52) may be used for the wiring between sensor and electronic ballast. The mains connection lead must be no greater than 10 mm in

diameter. The mains connection terminal accepts 2 x 2.5 mm 2 cables. When installing the surface-mounting version, connect a circuit breaker (16 A) on the line side.

COM 1 + COM 2

Normal mode / Test mode (Test / Norm)

Test mode has priority over all other settings on the presence detector and serves the purpose of checking for proper working order as well for testing the detection zone. Irrespective of am-

bient light level, the presence detector activates the light to stay ON for approx. 8 sec. in response to movement in the room (blue LED flashes when movement is detected). All user-

selected settings apply in normal mode. The presence detector can also be set by means of the blue LED without any load connected.

Semi-automatic (Semi) / fully automatic mode (Full) Semi-automatic mode: (Semi)

The light now only switches OFF automatically. Light is switched ON manually. Light must be requested using the button and

Provides a constant level of brightness. Detector measures the prevailing level of daylight and activates sufficient artificial light to achieve the required lev-

el of brightness. As daylight changes, the switched-in artificial lighting component is adjusted accordingly. In addition to the daylight component, artificial

light is also switched ON and OFF in relation to whether or not persons are present.

Time setting

The chosen stay-ON time can be varied from 1 min. to a maximum of 15 min.(1 press of the button = 1 min.). Intrinsic light is calibrated

after 3 min. When the threshold is exceeded, the sensor switches OFF after the stay-ON time expires.

IQ mode

The stay-ON time is self-learning and adjusts dynamically to user behaviour.

The optimum time cycle is determined by means of a learning algorithm.

The shortest time is 5 min., the longest 20 min.

Teach mode

This memorises the current level of ambient brightness at which you

want the sensor to respond to movement from now on.

• Room surveillance

Turning the potentiometer to the "Surveillance" setting reduces the sensitivity of the "Presence" switching output. The contact only closes on detecting a pronounced movement, signaling with a high degree of certainty that persons are present.

The stay-ON time remains active. The switch-ON delay is inactivated.

DIM / DALI

Basic brightness (DIM version)

Provides basic illumination for the selected stay-ON time when ambient light falls below the selected brightness threshold that is set. This is dimmed to 10% of maximum light intensity. As soon as a person enters the scene, the detector switches either to 100%

light Intensity (constant-lighting controller OFF) or adjusts to the preselected brightness level (constant-lighting controller ON). When no movement is being detected, the detector dims back to basic brightness after the stay-ON time expires. This is switched OFF when

stay ON time (10 / 30 min.) has expired or the daylight component is sufficient to exceed the selected level of brightness. In the ON setting, the detector switches basic brightness ON and OFF as soon as the level of light falls below the brightness threshold.

Constant-lighting control

Parallel-connected configurations

When using several detectors, they must be connected to the same phase!

As many as 10 sensors can be connected in parallel.

Master/master

A parallel-connected configuration also permits the use of several masters. In this case, each master operates the lighting group in accordance with the level of bright-

ness it measures. Delay times and brightness thresholds are selected at each master as required. The switched load is spread among the individual masters. Presence is still

detected collectively by all detectors. The presence output can be picked off from any master.

Master/slave

The master/slave configuration permits detection of movement in large-type rooms or spaces (load connected = master, no load =

slave). The level of brightness prevailing in the room is only evaluated at the master. The slaves report movements detected to the mas-

ter. Lighting or HVAC is switched ON and OFF by the master only.

Remote control

Using the remote control (optional), functions can be conveniently activated from the floor.

This Steinel product has been manufactured with utmost care, tested for proper operation and safety accordance with applicable regulations and then subjected to random sample inspection. Steinel guarantees that it is in perfect condition and proper working order.

WARRANTY

The warranty period is 36 months and starts on the date of sale to the consumer. We will remedy defects caused by material flaws or manufacturing faults. The warranty will be met by repair or replacement of defective parts at our own discretion. The warranty shall not cover damage to wear parts, damage or defects caused by improper treatment or maintenance. Further consequential damage to other objects shall be excluded.

Claims under the warranty will only be accepted if the product is sent fully assembled and well-packed with a brief description of the fault, a receipt or invoice (date of purchase and dealer's stamp) to the appropriate Service Centre.

Repair service:

If defects occur outside the warranty period or are not covered by warranty, ask your nearest service station for the possibility of repair.
