How to wind my automatic Panerai Luminor Marina watch?

To wind the watch, unscrew the crown to position 0, then turn it clockwise about 20 times. The automatic movement also winds with wrist motion. Do not force if the crown resists.

At what depth can I swim with my Luminor Marina?

Your watch is water resistant to 300 meters (30 ATM). You can swim, scuba dive, but avoid hydraulic shocks and ensure the crown is screwed down.

How to set the date on the Luminor Marina?

Pull the crown to position 1 (click). Turn it clockwise to advance the date. Avoid setting the date between 8 PM and 2 AM to prevent damaging the movement. Refer to the manual for more details.

What to do if my watch stops working?

First check manual winding (20 crown turns). If it does not restart, contact an authorized Panerai service center. Do not attempt repair yourself.

Can I change the leather strap for a steel bracelet?

Yes, the Luminor Marina has a quick-release strap system (using a screwdriver or the provided system). You can buy original Panerai straps/bracelets. Make sure the spring bar is securely in place.

How to clean my Panerai watch?

Use a soft lint-free cloth. For leather straps, avoid water. For the steel case, a little warm water and mild soap (no chemicals). Dry thoroughly.

Is the watch antimagnetic?

HISTORY

Since 1860, Guido Panerai & Figlio in Florence had been producing precision instruments with a high level of technical content, becoming a supplier to the Royal Italian Navy. These instruments have indissolubly associated the name Panerai with marine exploration, time measurement and the development of a particular standard of quality and safety, a fundamental requirement for supplying the armed forces.

Officine Panerai began producing watches in March 1938 with the Radiomir, a model which played a part in the exploits of the commandos of the Italian Navy who wore it on their wrists.

The Panerai Luminor has been recognised as a historically important watch by virtue of the robustness and originality of its design; the small number of examples produced, together with the first Radiomir watches, are some of the rarities most sought-after by collectors in the field.

Since 1993, Officine Panerai has offered updated Luminor and Radiomir models on the international market, thus becoming one of the undisputed leaders in the haute horlogerie sports sector.

PANERAI LUMINOR MARINA AUTOMATIC

The Panerai Luminor Marina Automatic watches respect the constructional standards of Officine Panerai, which from its origin have been based on quality and reliability: dials of exceptional visibility, water-resistance tested beyond the declared and guaranteed limits, and the exclusive lever device for locking the crown.

THE CASE

The case, 44 mm or 40 mm, is obtained from a single block of metal. Made completely of AISI 316L stainless steel, its manufacture involves a complex range of processes. Starting from the initial block roughly shaped by stamping, a total of more than 60 further production processes take place before the finished product is achieved. A series of quality checks carried out with highly sophisticated instruments ensures the watch's exceptional resistance and accuracy.

The anti-reflective crystal is sapphire, made from corundum, which is the toughest material after diamond. Without any impurities, it is completely transparent and abrasion resistant. The gently cambered crystal ensures that the dial is completely visible and guarantees resistance at great depths. On the back of the case are engraved the case number, the sequential number of the watch with the number produced annually, the material and the maximum depth of use.

The water-resistance of your watch, indicated on the back by the symbol , is guaranteed to a pressure of 30 bar which correspond to the hydrostatic pressure exerted by a column of water on 1 square centimetre at a depth of 300 metres under normal conditions. In these circumstances your watch is therefore water-resistant to a depth of about 300 metres.

THE BRACELET

The metal bracelet has been designed not only to enhance the aesthetic value of the watch, but above all to blend more harmoniously with the case.

It is so naturally integrated with the case that it appears to be a perfect extension of it.

Besides, the links are asymmetrical and formed with a double-curved surface, so that the bracelet is not only pleasant to the touch, but also very comfortable to wear.

THE LEATHER STRAP

The strap is made from selected alligator leather and is available in various colours as well as black and brown. The strap is secured by an adjustable buckle.

THE DEVICE PROTECTING CROWN

The winding crown's protective device (protected as a trademark) ensures extremely efficient and reliable water-resistance, as well as protecting the winder from being turned accidentally. Mounted in a block fixed to the case, a small movable lever compresses the sealing ring of the winding crown axially, thus clamping it in the closed position.

THE MOVEMENT

The exclusive Swiss movement of very high quality is a tested automatic mechanical Panerai OP III calibre of 13 ^1/4 lignes. Power reserve of 42 hours, 21 jewels, 28,800 alternations/hour.

The research into materials, the use of non-magnetic alloys for all the main parts and the sophisticated constructional techniques enable a high level of reliability to be achieved. The quality controls and the rating adjustment carried out in five positions, with static and dynamic checking of the balance assembly, guarantee results of the highest accuracy.

The Panerai OP III calibre is supplied with the Chronometer Certificate granted by the Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres (C.O.S.C.).

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE PANERAI LUMINOR MARINA AUTOMATIC

All Panerai Luminor Marina Automatic watches are fitted with an automatic mechanical movement. The functions of this mechanism are: hours, minutes, seconds and date. When the winding crown is withdrawn to the second click, the seconds hand is locked. When the watch has stopped for a long time, it is recommended that the winding crown should be turned a few times. Before doing so, open the lever of the device protecting the winding crown.

SETTING THE DATE

1. Open the lever of the device protecting the winding crown.

2. Pull out the winding crown to the second click.

3. Turn the winding crown anti-clockwise until the hands go past the 12 o'clock position. If the date changes when this is done, 12 o'clock is 12 midnight. If it does not, it is 12 midday.

To change the date quickly, pull out the winding crown to the first click and turn it clockwise. Each turn of the winding crown moves the date on one day. Do not set the date between 10.30 p.m. and 1.30 a.m.

1. Close the winding crown and the lever of the device protecting the winding crown.

SETTING THE TIME

1. Open the lever of the device protecting the winding crown.
2. Pull out the winding crown to the second click and set the correct time.
3. Push in the winding crown and close the lever of the device protecting the winding crown.

REPLACING THE STRAP/BRACELET

The Panerai Luminor Marina Automatic watches use a special device for changing the strap or the bracelet. A pin (A), visible at the side of each strap attachment, can be released by simultaneously pushing on the push-piece (B), located on the underside of the strap attachment and on the pin itself. A special tool (C), supplied in the box, enables this operation to be carried out with simplicity and precision. Before making the replacement, detach the two parts of the tool. To complete the replacement, after introducing the pin, push on the push-piece (B).

REPLACING THE BUCKLE (FOR STRAPS ONLY)

The screwdriver supplied with the Panerai Luminor Marina Automatic watches enables the buckle to be replaced easily.

MAINTENANCE ADVICE

Panerai watches are produced to very high standards of quality. It is worth remembering that the mechanical parts run 24 hours a day when used, so the watch must undergo regular maintenance to ensure long life and good operation.

WATER-RESISTANCE

Have your watch checked periodically for water-resistance by an Authorized Panerai Service Centre and restore it every two years with regular servicing, or whenever the watch has to be opened.

Restoring the watch's water-resistance necessarily involves replacing the seals so as to ensure the maximum water-resistance and security.

Where the watch is used in underwater sports activities, it is recommended that it should be checked every year before the season of underwater activities begins.

THE MOVEMENT

Have the movement of your watch checked periodically by an Authorized Paneral Service Centre so as to maintain its perfect operation. If the watch tends to gain or lose time significantly, the movement may need to be overhauled.

The movements are designed to withstand temperature variations between -10°C and +60°C (14°F and 140°F). Outside this range of temperatures, operational variations exceeding those set out in the specifications of the movement may be noticed. In addition, there is a risk that the lubricants contained in the movement may deteriorate, resulting in damage to some of its parts.

CLEANING THE EXTERIOR

To keep the exterior in perfect condition, we recommend washing your Paneral watch with soap and warm water, using a soft brush. After this operation, and

also after bathing in the sea or a swimming pool, carefully rinse the watch with clean water. All Panerai watches can be cleaned with a soft, dry cloth.

THE STRAP

Panerai straps must be washed in warm water and left to dry. It is important not to dry them on a hot surface or to expose them to direct sunlight, because the rapid evaporation of the water could damage their shape and quality. After each bathe in the sea or a swimming pool, carefully rinse the strap with clean water.

It is recommended that the strap and the buckle should be replaced by an Authorised Distributor or a Panerai Service Centre, in order to avoid any problems caused by incorrect replacement.

Only an Authorised Distributor or Panerai Service Centre can guarantee the use of genuine Panerai straps, properly designed to fit the dimensions of the case and manufactured according to the quality standards of the brand.

All alligator leather used by Officine Panerai comes from farms in Louisiana, USA. Officine Panerai's suppliers have committed to the highest standard of responsibility and have given their assurance that such farms in Louisiana contribute to the stable growth of wild alligators, thus protecting this endangered species. Panerai does not use skins coming from fragile or endangered species taken from the wild.

THE METAL BRACELET

The Panerai bracelet can be washed with soap and warm water, using a soft brush. After this operation, and also after bathing in the sea or a swimming pool, rinse the bracelet carefully with clean water and dry it with a soft, dry cloth. It is recommended that links should be added to or removed from the bracelet by an Authorized Distributor or a Panerai Service Centre, in order to avoid any problems caused by incorrect replacement.
