Frequently Asked Questions - GW12786 Gewiss

Where to install the GW12786 motion detector?
The detector should be installed at a height of 2 to 2.5 meters, in an open area, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Avoid drafts and areas too exposed to weather.
What is the maximum detection range?
The range is 12 meters at an ambient temperature of 25°C. Higher temperatures may reduce the range.
How to adjust the detector sensitivity?
Use the SENS (sensitivity) potentiometer located under the cover. Turn clockwise to increase sensitivity, counterclockwise to decrease. Adjust according to the area to be covered.
How to adjust the time delay?
The TIME potentiometer adjusts the lighting duration after detection, from 10 seconds (minimum position) to 5 minutes (maximum position).
What to do if the detector stays on permanently?
Check that the brightness threshold ( LUX potentiometer) is not set to day mode (max). Adjust it so that the detector only activates in dark conditions. Also ensure that no heat source triggers the detector.
The detector does not turn on at all, what to check?
Check the power supply (fuse, circuit breaker), the wiring (phase, neutral, load), and that the brightness threshold is correct (if too low, the detector will not activate during the day). Test in test mode (LUX at max) to isolate the problem.
What is the maximum wattage of connected lamps?
The maximum switching power is 2000 W for resistive loads (incandescent, halogen lamps). For inductive loads (LED, CFL), reduce to 800 W.
Is the detector suitable for outdoor use?
Yes, the IP44 protection rating protects against water splashes. However, avoid direct and prolonged exposure to rain or water jets.
How to clean the detector?
Use a soft, dry cloth. Never use abrasive products, solvents, or water directly. Regular cleaning of the lens improves detection.
Can the detector be used with LED bulbs?
Yes, but make sure the total LED wattage does not exceed 800 W and that the bulbs are compatible with motion detectors (no electronic dimming).

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The movement detector with EIB twilight switch - flush-mounted allows you to send an activation command to actuator devices using the KNX/EIB bus, according to the movements and light intensity detected.

The passive Infra Red (IR) sensor has an adjustable lens with fixed opening.

The detector is powered by the bus line and is fitted with two local potentiometers on the front, to regulate the light sensitivity levels and the variation of the recovery time (+/-50% of the value set via ETS), and a green indicator LED that signals movement detection and the consequential messages sent to the bus.

Functions

The device is configured by the ETS software to achieve one of the functions listed below.

Commands:

- send commands (1 bit/1 byte) of start and/or end of movement events

Other functions:

  • movement detection conditioned or unconditioned by light intensity
  • regulation of light intensity threshold or via ETS parameter
  • function enabling/disabling via bus
  • activation of command sending to bus object
  • up to 4 auxiliary switching blocks
  • safety pause with parameter options
  • pure twilight sensor function

Completing installation

Insert the device into a Chorus support, making sure the front potentiometers are at the top.

Complete the installation with other Chorus devices or hole covers and fix it to the relative container (flush-mounted box, wall-mounted box etc).

Apply the finish plate.

PROGRAMMING WITH ETS SOFTWARE

This device must be configured using the ETS software.

Detailed information on the configuration parameters and their values can be found in the Technical Manual.

After completing device configuration it is possible to manually adjust the sensor and recovery time intervention thresholds.
