Important
Read this user manual carefully before you use the appliance and save it for future reference.
Danger
- Never immerse the motor unit in water or any other liquid, nor rinse it under the tap. Only use a moist cloth to clean the motor unit.
Warning
- Check if the voltage indicated on the appliance corresponds to the local mains voltage before you connect the appliance.
- Do not use the appliance if the plug, the mains cord or other parts are damaged.
- If the mains cord is damaged, you must have it replaced by Philips, a service centre authorised by Philips or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard.
- This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
- Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
- Do not allow children to use the appliance without supervision.
- Do not touch the cutting edges of the blade units, especially when the appliance is plugged in. The cutting edges are very sharp.

If one of the blade units gets stuck, unplug the appliance before you remove the ingredients that block the blade unit.

To avoid splashing, always immerse the bars into the ingredients before you switch on the appliance, especially when you process hot ingredients.
- Never use the chopper blade unit without the chopper bowl.
Caution
- Switch off the appliance and disconnect it from the mains if you leave it unattended and before you assemble, disassemble and clean it.
- Never use any accessories or parts from other manufacturers or that Philips does not specifically recommend. If you use such accessories or parts, your guarantee becomes invalid.
- This appliance is intended for household use only.
- Do not exceed the quantities and processing times indicated in the tables.
- Do not process more than one batch without interruption. Let the appliance cool down for 10 minutes before you continue processing.
- Never fill the beaker or the chopper bowl with ingredients that are hotter than 80irc C.
Electromagnetic fields (EMF)
This Philips appliance complies with all standards regarding electromagnetic fields (EMF). If handled properly and according to the instructions in this user manual, the appliance is safe to use based on scientific evidence available today.
Overheat protection
This appliance is equipped with overheat protection. If the appliance overheats, it switches off automatically. Unplug the appliance and let it cool down for 10 minutes. Then put the mains plug back into the wall socket and switch on the appliance again. Please contact your Philips dealer or an authorised Philips service centre if the overheat protection is activated too often.
Before first use
Thoroughly clean the parts that come into contact with food before you use the appliance for the first time (see chapter 'Cleaning').
Preparing for use
1 Let hot ingredients cool down before you process them or put them in the beaker or the chopper bowl (max. temperature 80irc C).
2 Cut large ingredients into pieces of approx. 2cm before you process them.
3 Assemble the appliance properly before you put the plug in the wall socket.
Using the appliance
Hand blender
The hand blender is intended for:
- blending fluids, e.g. dairy products, sauces, fruit juices, soups, mixed drinks and shakes.
- mixing soft ingredients, e.g. pancake batter or mayonnaise.
- pureeing cooked ingredients, e.g. for making baby food.
1 Put the ingredients in the beaker.

2 Attach the blender bar to the motor unit ('click') (Fig. 2).
3 Put the plug in the wall socket.
4 Immerse the blade guard completely in the ingredients (Fig. 3).
5 Press the on/off button or the turbo speed button to switch on the appliance.
- When you use the on/off button, you can adjust the speed with the speed selector. The higher the speed, the shorter the processing time required.
- The speed selector has settings from 1 (low speed) to 16 (high speed).
- When you use the turbo speed button, the appliance operates at maximum speed. In this case, you cannot adjust the speed with the speed selector.
6 Move the appliance slowly up and down and in circles to blend the ingredients (Fig. 4).
Whisk
The whisk is only intended for whipping cream, whisking egg whites and desserts.
1 Connect the whisk to the coupling unit ('click') (Fig. 5).
2 Connect the coupling unit to the motor unit ('click') (Fig. 6).
3 Put the ingredients in a bowl or in the beaker.
Tip: When you beat egg whites, use a large bowl for the best result.
Tip: When you whip cream, use the beaker to avoid splashing.

Whisking quantities and processing times

Tip: To prevent splashing, start at a low speed setting and continue with a higher speed after approx. 1 minute.
4 Put the plug in the wall socket and press the on/off button.
5 After approx. 1 minute, you can press the turbo button to continue at turbo speed.
Detaching the whisk
1 Press the release button to detach the whisk from the motor unit.
2 Pull the coupling unit off the whisk.
Potato masher
The potato masher has been specially designed to make potato puree and to mash cooked peas.
Caution: Never use the potato masher to mash ingredients in a pan over direct heat. Always remove the pan from the heat and let the ingredients cool down slightly before you mash them.
Caution: Do not mash hard or uncooked foods, as this may damage the potato masher.
Caution: Do not tap the potato masher on the side of the pan during or after mashing. Use a spatula to remove excess food.
Caution: To avoid damage, never use sharp or hard objects to remove puree from the potato masher.
1 Cook the potatoes for approx. 20 minutes, drain them and put them in a bowl.
Tip: To get the best result, make sure the bowl is not more than half filled.
2 Connect the masher bar to the masher coupling unit (1) and turn it anticlockwise (2) ('click') (Fig. 7).
3 Attach the masher paddle to the masher bar. (Fig. 8)
4 Connect the potato masher to the motor unit ('click'). (Fig. 9)
5 Put the plug in the wall socket.
6 Place the potato masher in the bowl filled with potatoes.
7 Press the turbo speed button.
8 Move the potato masher up and down for approx. 20 seconds. Add milk little by little and continue until you have achieved the desired result.
9 Use a spatula (not included) to remove puree from the potato masher.
Tip: You can enhance the flavour by adding salt or butter.
Detaching the potato masher
1 Unplug the appliance.
2 Press both release buttons simultaneously to detach the potato masher from the motor unit (Fig. 10).
3 Detach the masher paddle from the masher bar by turning the masher paddle clockwise. (Fig. 11)
4 Turn the masher bar clockwise (1) and pull it off the coupling unit (2). (Fig. 12)
Note: Always clean the potato masher immediately after use (see chapter 'Cleaning' and the cleaning table).
Compact chopper
The chopper is intended for chopping ingredients such as nuts, meat, onions, hard cheese, boiled eggs, garlic, herbs, dry bread etc.
Be very careful when you handle the chopper blade unit, the cutting edges are very sharp. Be particularly careful when you remove the blade unit from the chopper bowl, when you empty the chopper bowl and during cleaning.
Note: Cut large ingredients into pieces of approx. 2cm before you process them.
1 Put the blade unit in the chopper bowl (Fig. 13).
2 Put the ingredients in the chopper bowl.

3 Put the chopper lid on the chopper bowl (Fig. 14).
4 Fasten the motor unit onto the chopper lid ('click') (Fig. 15).
5 Put the plug in the wall socket.
6 Press the on/off button or the turbo button to switch on the appliance.
- When you use the on/off button, you can adjust the speed with the speed selector. The higher the speed, the shorter the processing time required.

Note: If the ingredients stick to the wall of the chopper bowl, unplug the appliance and loosen dry ingredients from the wall with a spatula or by adding some liquid (e.g. if you make pesto).
Cleaning (Fig. 16)
Do not immerse the motor unit, the whisk coupling unit, the chopper lid and the masher coupling unit in water or any other liquid, nor rinse them under the tap. Only use a moist cloth to clean these parts.
Always detach the accessories from the motor unit before you clean them.
1 Unplug the appliance.
2 Press both release buttons on the motor unit simultaneously to remove the accessory you have used.
3 Disassemble the accessory.
Note: You can also remove the rubber ring from the chopper bowl for extra thorough cleaning.

Tip: For quick cleaning of the blender bar or the masher bar, pour warm water with some washing-up liquid into the beaker or bowl you have used, insert the blender bar or masher bar and let the appliance operate for approx. 10 seconds.
Environment
- Do not throw away the appliance with the normal household waste at the end of its life, but hand it in at an official collection point for recycling. By doing this you help to preserve the environment (Fig. 17).

The appliance makes a lot of noise, produces an unpleasant smell, feels hot to the touch or produces smoke. What should I do?
The appliance may produce an unpleasant smell or emit a little smoke if it has been used too long. In this case you should switch off the appliance and let it cool down for 60 minutes. If the problem persists, please contact the nearest Philips Consumer Care Centre.
Can I process boiling hot ingredients?
Let the ingredients cool down to approx. 80irc C/175°F before you process them.
Which size should the ingredients have before I process them?
Cut the ingredients into pieces of approx. 2×2cm.
Is it possible to damage the appliance by processing very hard ingredients?
Yes, the appliance may get damaged if you process very hard ingredients such as bones and fruit with stones. However, the appliance is suitable for processing ingredients like Parmesan cheese or chocolate.
Why does the appliance suddenly stop working?
Some hard ingredients may block the blade unit. Release the on/off button, unplug the appliance, detach the motor unit and remove the ingredients that block the blade unit.
Recipes
Pancake filling
Ingredients:
- 120g honey
- 100g prunes
1 Put the honey in the fridge for several hours.
2 Put the prunes in the chopper bowl and spoon honey over them.
3 Press the turbo speed button and chop for 5 seconds.
Pesto
Ingredients:
- 50g Parmesan cheese
- 10g garlic
- 50g basil
- 50g pine nuts
- 100ml olive oil
- Salt
1 Cut the cheese into small pieces (1 x 1cm).
2 Peel the garlic, wash the basil leaves and shake them dry.
3 Put all ingredients in the beaker.
4 Press the turbo speed button and process the ingredients until they have turned into a paste.
Tomato soup
Ingredients:
- 500g tomatoes
- 80g onion
- 1 clove garlic
- 2tbsp olive oil
- 10g vegetable stock powder
- 500ml water
- 5g salt
- A pinch of ground black pepper
- 45g crème fraîche
1 Peel the onion and the garlic and chop coarsely.
2 Remove the crowns from the tomatoes and wash the tomatoes.
3 Cut the tomatoes into 4 pieces (into 8 pieces for very big tomatoes).
4 Put a pot on the cooker and select the high heat setting.
5 Add the oil, the onions and the garlic and roast until glossy.
6 Add the tomatoes and stir-fry them for approx. 1-2 minutes (stir every now and then).
7 Add the water and the stock and wait until the water boils.
8 Blend the ingredients until you have a smooth soup.
9 Let it boil for 10 minutes, then add the salt and pepper and the crème fraîche.
Mashed potatoes
Ingredients:
- 750g mealy (puree) potatoes
- 250ml hot milk (approx. 90°C)
- 20g butter
- Salt
1 Peel the potatoes and cut them into pieces of about 4x4x4cm.
2 Cook the potato pieces in salt water until they are completely soft (approx. 20 minutes).
3 Pour off the water, add the hot milk and the butter and mash until smooth.
