To turn on, press the DIM/POWER button (②5) for 2 seconds. The display shows 'WELCOME'. To turn off, press the same button again for 2 seconds; the display shows 'GOODBYE' and settings are saved.
How to connect the car radio to the vehicle's electrical system?
Use an ISO connector. Connect the constant terminal (⑤1) to a permanent 12 V source, the ignition terminal (⑤3) to a 12 V source switched by the ignition, and the ground terminal (⑤4) to the chassis. Insert an 8 A fuse on each line. Ensure the 7.5 A flat fuse (④9) is in place.

How to adjust bass and treble?
Press the SEL/VOL button (②4) repeatedly until 'BAS' (bass) or 'TRE' (treble) is displayed. Turn the button to adjust the level (±10 dB). You can also use the preset equalizer (DSP) in CLASS, ROCK, POP or FLAT mode.

Store the operating instructions safely for later reference and hand them to third parties when passing your car radio – recorder to a new user.

Proper Use

The MP3 car radio - recorder KH 2389 is designed for private use to receive radio stations broadcasting on FM/AM/LW frequencies and to play audio storage media like CD, CD-R, CD-RW, USB stick, MP3 player, SD and MMC. It is suitable to record MP3 or WMA formats on SD or MMC (not included) of the played broadcastings. The MP3 car radio recorder has a removable control panel and an IR remote control whose power is supplied exclusively with 1 x Lithium battery, type CR2025, 3 V DC. The power for the MP3 car radio - recorder must be supplied exclusively by connecting it to 12 V DC. The device is designed to connect four loudspeakers with impedance of 4 - 8 Ohm/output max. 4 x 45 W, a final amplifier and a CD changer. Any careless use or use that is not in compliance with the intended purpose of the device entails a loss of warranty.

  • Protect yourself against an electric shock! Avoid any short circuits during connections:

  • with the vehicle's 12 V DC power supply

  • with the max. 2 pairs of loudspeakers with the impedance 4 - 8 Ohm
  • with a CD changer
  • with a terminal amplifier

- Before connecting to the 12 V DC power supply of a car, obtain information on how to maintain electrical safety based on the vehicle's operation manual!

  • Ensure that when connecting to a vehicle's 12 V DC power supply, there is no voltage in the vehicle's connecting cables. Equip the connecting cords with fuse holders (2 x 8 A)!
  • When installing into a car, ensure that the vehicle is out of operation and in a secure standstill position! Turn off the ignition and bring the vehicle into parking position with applied hand-brake.
  • Complete the connection to the 12 V DC power supply while fully protected against humidity!
  • Complete the installation in a car, the assembly, the maintenance and the service disconnected from the 12 V DC power supply!
  • Do not expose the device to moisture, fire, heat

and sustained temperature in excess of 50^ C!

  • Do not damage any lines carrying fuel or for electricity, brakes, hydraulics, water or data transfer when tightening the screws!
  • Ensure that the 12 V DC constant current plug-in ⑤1, the 12 V DC ignition current plug-in ⑤3 and possibly the powered aerial plug-in ⑤2 do not come into contact with a fuel line (e.g. petrol-carrying line)!
  • Do not allow yourself to be distracted while driving by operating the car radio or from its displays! Familiarise yourself with its operation before driving and practise the safe use of the car radio's features! Set the volume only to such level that the sirens of emergency vehicles can be heard on time.

  • Avoid injuries and damage to the sensitive sense of hearing of passengers (in particular infants, children and pets) while in the car! Adjust the volume and balance of the loudspeakers for all passengers to a healthy and comfortable level!
  • Before operation, check if all components have been assembled in accordance with the operating instructions!
  • Before assembly and operation, check the delivery for damage and completeness!
  • Use the MP3 car radio – recorder only with the supplied original parts!
  • Do not cover the metal casing ③8 with objects!
  • Protect all electronic contact areas against short circuiting, humidity, damage and impurities!
  • Do not place the device on or near a car battery!
  • Prevent a short circuit and damage! Ensure that no alien matter or objects can access the inside!
  • Disconnect the MP3 car radio – recorder in the event of operational malfunctioning and damage instantly from the 12 V DC power supply!
  • Perform the connection to loudspeakers, the CD changer, final amplifier and audio storage media (CD, CD-R, CD-RW, USB stick, MP3 player, SD and MMC) in accordance with the respective operating instructions!

  • Do not expose the device to mechanical stress!
  • Avoid theft and unauthorised use especially if the device has been installed in a car! Before leaving the parked vehicle, remove the control panel of the MP3 car radio – recorder and store it safely in the plastic box (ABS).
  • Exchange any defect fuses only against new fuses of the same type with identical A (Ampere) rating!
  • If not used for extended periods of time, remove the battery from the remote control!

! Tip! What to do!

  • Please observe the national copyright regulations of the country in which you use the device to record radio programmes/CD tracks.
  • Prepare yourself and take your time when familiarising yourself with the car radio's operation! Ensure a tidy environment in which you are not disturbed and perform the initial operation with maximum concentration.
  • Carefully plan the assembly point. Observe that the assembled MP3 car radio – recorder does not cause obstruction while driving the vehicle.
  • The audio data of a CD-R, CD-RW can only be played if they were fully burnt on to the media.
  • Use the highly sensitive CD-R, CD-RW in accordance with their operating instructions!
  • Avoid interruptions while playing audio storage media! Clean the CD, CD-R and CD-RW before use with a dry anti-static cloth, wiping from the centre toward the edge of the disk!
  • Ensure that the playing of audio storage media is not interrupted by condensation! Remove the CD, CD-R, CD-RW in the case of high humidity and low ambience temperatures from the device. Use audio storage media only with completely dry surfaces.
  • Store audio storage media outside of the device in an appropriate protective cover.
  • Obtain an overview of the most important specific terminology:
    ○ Receiver: Electronic receiver for radio broadcastings and sound data of storage media and simultaneously pre-amplifier.

The following auxiliaries and tools are required for the connection and for the assembly, which are not included in the delivery:

■ Assembly

- Remove the control panel ① from the MP3 car radio - recorder.

  • Avoid touching the display window ⑦.
  • Press the unlock button ⑥ and remove the control panel ① from the MP3 car radio - recorder.
  • Store the control panel ① in the storage box.

Installation of the DIN assembly bracket into the car's instrument panel

  • Completely unscrew the safety transport screws ⑥4 from the metal casing ③8 (see Fig. E) and carefully remove the ABS plastic frame ② from the front of the device ②8.
  • Slide both installation keys between the metal casing ③8 and the pre-assembled DIN assembly bracket until they distinctly catch. Ensure that the convex side points to the outside respectively. Store the installation keys in a safe place for later use.
  • Completely attach the ABS plastic bracket ② to the front of the device ⑳.
  • Remove the DIN assembly bracket and place it flush with the DIN assembly cut-out of the car's instrument panel.
  • Secure the DIN assembly bracket against pulling out. Bend approx. ten tin dog points respectively to the top and bottom of the DIN assembly bracket from the inside out. Ensure that the DIN assembly bracket is fitted flush with the DIN assembly cut-out.

Connection to the car's loudspeaker

⚠️ Tip! Use an ISO plug.

  • Carefully guide the connecting cord of the loudspeakers fitted in the car out of the front of the DIN assembly bracket.
  • Hook up the connecting cable of the ISO plug with the connecting cable of the loudspeakers fitted in the car with the help of eight biscuit connectors. Ensure that the connection of the eight biscuit connectors does not cause any short circuits and that the fixing screws are firmly tightened.

Connection with car's 12 V DC power supply

Danger!

Before hooking up to the car's 12 V DC power supply consult the vehicle's operation manual on how to observe electrical safety!
- Ensure that when connecting the 12 V DC power supply there is no voltage on the vehicle's connecting cords. Do not damage any safety facilities, e.g. board computer and alarm system of vehicle.
- Connect the 12 V DC power supply with the 3x 8 A fuse holders!
- During vehicle installation ensure that the vehicle is out of operation and is in safe standstill! Turn off the ignition and bring the vehicle into parking position with activated hand-brake!
- During connection, use tools with double-insulated handle!
- Avoid electrical short circuits when connecting to the 12 V DC power supply.
- Connect the MP3 car radio - recorder with the 12 V DC power supply while fully protected against humidity!

! Tip! Use an ISO plug.

- Ensure that the fault-free flat blade fuse 7.5 A ④9 is inserted all the way to the catch of the flat blade fuse socket ④8.

  • Carefully guide the connecting cable to hook up the 12 V DC power supply through the front out of the DIN assembly bracket.
  • Connect the ISO plug with the connecting cables of the 12 V DC power supply with the 3x8 A fuse holders. Ensure that the connections of the 3x8 A fuse holders do not cause any short circuits and that the fixing screws are firmly tightened.
  • Connect the cable for the 12 V DC constant current plug-in (51) using a 8 A safety holder with the vehicle's connecting cable for the 12 V DC constant current.
  • Connect the cables for the 12 V DC ignition current plug-in ⑤3 and powered aerial plug-in ⑤2 with the help of one 8 A safety fuse each with the vehicle's connecting cable for 12 V DC ignition current. With this step the MP3 car radio-recorder and a powered aerial can only consume the vehicle's power when the ignition is switched on.
  • Connect the cable for the vehicle's minus/ground connection plug-in ⑤④ with the help of a biscuit connector with the car's connection cable for the minus pole (battery's minus pole which by standard is connected with the car's chassis).
  • Connect the cable for the powered aerial plug in ⑤2 with the connection for the vehicle's 12 V DC ignition power (current only active when ignition is switched on).
  • Connect the cable for the vehicle's minus/ground connection plug-in 54 with the help of a biscuit connector with the car's connection cable for the minus pole (battery's minus pole which by standard is connected with the car's chassis).

■ Connection with CD Changer

⚠️ Tip! Use a connecting cable with DIN 8-pole plug.

• Install the connecting cable with the DIN 8-pole plug in accordance with its operation manual in the car.
- Guide the connecting cable with the DIN 8-pole plug to the CD changer and carefully out of the front of the DIN assembly bracket.

Assembly

  • Insert the DIN 8-pole plug of the connecting cable until it catches into the DIN 8-pole plug jack AUX ⑤ to the rear of the casing.
  • Insert the DIN 8-pole plug to the other end of the connecting cable until it catches into the DIN 8-pole plug-jack AUX of the CD changer.

Connection with a Final Amplifier

⚠️ Tip! Use five Cinch connecting cables (insulation and plug: white / red).

• Install the five Cinch connecting cables in the vehicle in accordance with their operation manual.
- Guide the five Cinch connecting cables to the final amplifier and carefully out of the front of the DIN assembly bracket.
- Insert the red plug of the first Cinch connecting cable until it catches into the LINE IN R-Cinch plug jack (red/right) ⑤7.
- Then insert the second red plug of the first Cinch connecting cables until it catches into the LINE OUT R-Cinch-plug jack (red/right) of the final amplifier.
- Insert the white plug of the second Cinch connecting cable until it catches into the LINE IN L-Cinch plug jack (white / left) ⑤8.
- Then insert the second white plug of the second Cinch connecting cable until it catches into the LINE OUT R-Cinch-plug-jack (white / left) of the CD changer.
- Insert the red plug of the third Cinch connecting cable until it catches into the REAR Cinch R plug jack (loudspeaker connection (red/rear right)) ⑤9.
- Then insert the second red plug of the third Cinch connecting cable until it catches into the REAR Cinch R plug jack (loudspeaker connection (red/rear right)) of the final amplifier.
- Insert the white plug of the fourth Cinch connecting cable until it catches into the REAR Cinch L plug jack (loudspeaker connection (white/rear left)) ⑥0.
- Then insert the second white plug of the fourth Cinch connecting cable until it catches into the REAR Cinch L - plug jack (loudspeaker connection (white / rear left)) of the final amplifier.
- Insert the red plug of the fifth Cinch connecting

cable until it catches into the FRONT-Cinch plug jack (loudspeaker connection (red/front right)) ⑥1.

  • Then insert the second red plug of the fifth Cinch connecting cable until it catches into the FRONT-Cinch plug jack (loudspeaker connection (red/ front right)) of the final amplifier.
  • Insert the white plug of the fifth Cinch connecting cable until it catches into the FRONT-Cinch plug-jack (loudspeaker connection (white/front left)) ⑥2.
  • Then insert the second white plug of the fifth Cinch connecting cable until it catches into the FRONT-Cinch-plug-jack (loudspeaker connection (white/front left)) of the final amplifier.

- Connecting the vehicle’s aerial

  • Guide the coaxial connecting cord of the vehicle's aerial (powered aerial) carefully out of the front of the DIN assembly bracket to the MP3 car radio - recorder.
  • Insert the plug of the coaxial connecting cable of the vehicle's aerial (powered aerial) until it catches into the aerial jack ⑥3 of MP3 car radio-recorder.
  • Connect the 12 V DC connecting cable of a powered aerial with the aerial's plug-in ⑤2.

■ Attaching to the DIN assembly bracket

  • Insert the MP3 car radio - recorder with its rear, jointly with the connected cables carefully into the DIN assembly bracket.
  • Be sure that the cable connector ⑳ is located in front of the connection jack ③4.
  • Ensure that nothing covers the vents of the metal casing ③8.
  • Ensure that there is no cable caught between the metal casing ③8 and the DIN assembly bracket. Avoid pinching as damage may lead to short circuits and an interruption of the connection cable.
  • Insert the MP3 car radio - recorder into the DIN assembly bracket until it distinctly snaps on.

Assembly / Operation

  • Attach the fixing screw ⑤6 with the M5 nut and washer to the holder and assembly cut-out of the car.
  • Ensure that there is voltage on the vehicle's connection cables for the 12 V DC power supply. The LED (red) ③5 flashes.
  • With a tip of a biro press the Reset button ③6 to the front of the device once (see Fig. C).

Attaching the control panel ①

• Take the control panel ① from the storage box.
- Avoid touching the display window ⑦.
- Place the rear left edge of the control panel ① to the attaching points ③ to the front of the device.
Carefully press the rear right edge of the control panel ① against the eject mechanism ③ of the device's front until it distinctly snaps on.

Operation

Turning On

- Press and hold the ☐ DIM button ⑲ for two seconds.

The device is supplied with the following factory settings

• The display window ⑦ reads [WELCOME].
- The background is lit blue (to be adjusted in 2 levels).
- Tip the ☐ DIM button ②5 and adjust the dimming level.
- The tuner is activated and the display window ⑦ reads FM 1, 87.50 (broadcasting frequency), [EON] flashes, [AF] flashes as does the volume level.
• The loudspeakers play the tuner reception.
- Set the desired volume by turning the SEL/VOL dial ②4.

Turning off

- Press and hold the ☐ DIM button ②5 for two seconds. The background light of the control panel ① goes out and the display window ⑦ reads [GOODBYE]. When turning off, the device stores all settings from the last operation. When turning the device on again, the last used audio storage medium or the tuner starts to play.

- Adjusting volume

  • Increase the volume by turning the SEL/VOL dial ②4 clockwise.
  • Reduce the volume by turning the SEL/VOL dial ②4 counter clockwise.

Mute Function

The Mute function mutes the loudspeakers.

  • Tip on the ⏻ DISP button ②3. Playing is muted and the display reads [MUTE].
  • Tip on the ⑫ DISP button ⑳ again. Playing resumes at the volume levels set before activating the MUTE function and [MUTE] disappears from the display.

Loudness Function

The Loudness function enables to step up the bass level in the sound setting.

  • Press and hold the ⬙ MD/LD button ② for approx. two seconds. The Loudness function is activated, the display reads [LOUD ON] and then [LOUD].
  • Press and hold the ⬙ MD/LD button ② again for approx. two seconds. The Loudness function is deactivated and the display reads [LOUD OFF] and [LOUD] disappears.

Operation

Setting 3 Band PLL Tuner

There are 3 x FM frequencies (FM1, FM2 and FM3), 2 x medium wave frequencies (MW1 and MW2) and 1 x long wave frequency band for selection. Every frequency band has six pre-settings for storing radio stations.

- Press the ⑧D ENT button ⑫ and select the frequency band that you wish to receive. The display reads the frequency band, e.g. [FM2], the frequency, e.g. [99.20] of a broadcasting station received or the programme ID during stereo reception and [TP] for traffic updates.

- Start the station search on lower frequencies by briefly touching the ▶◀ button ⑨. The tuner tunes automatically into the next broadcasting station that can be received and indicates the station in the display. - Start the station search on higher frequencies by briefly touching the ▶▶ button ⑩. The tuner tunes automatically into the next broadcasting station that can be received and indicates the station in the display.

  • Press and hold the □◀ button ⑨ to search manually for a radio station on lower frequencies. The display reads [MANUAL].
  • Press and hold the □◀ button ⑨ again until the desired radio station is tuned into.
  • Press and hold the ▶▶10 to manually search for a broadcasting station at a higher frequency. The display reads [MANUAL].
  • Press and hold the ▶▶⑩ again until the desired radio station is tuned into. Determine the pre-set number of the radio station tuned into.
  • Press for approx. two seconds the button for the desired pre-set number:

■ Automatic radio station search and memory

This function automatically searches for six radio stations with sufficient intensity within the selected frequency band.

- Press the A/PS button ⑧ to start the function. The automatic radio search stops for 5 seconds as soon as a radio station is tuned into. The display flashes the details of the radio station tuned into and reads the pre-set number, e.g. [4].

The MP3 car radio - recorder stores the radio station on pre-setting 4.

You can determine the pre-set station of the radio station tuned into.

- Press during the five seconds of the details flashing on the display the button for the desired pre-set number:

Operation/Playing from audio storage media

■ Fade traffic updates into play mode

  • Activate the EON function.
  • Press the TA button ⑭ once for traffic updates to interrupt play mode.

The display reads [TA] if the radio station tuned into broadcasts traffic updates. The display flashes [TA] if the radio station tuned into does not broadcast traffic updates. The tuner tunes automatically during a radio broadcasting for the duration of a broadcast traffic update into a radio station that broadcasts traffic updates.

- Press the TA button ⑭ again to deactivate the function.

AF function (alternative frequencies)

This function enables the tuner to permanently optimise the reception of a radio station tuned into.

  • Tip on the AF button ⑬; the display reads [AF]. The tuner searches for and receives the optimally receivable frequency on which the radio station tuned into is played.
  • Press the AF button ⑬ and the display reads [REG ON]. The tuner searches within the surrounding region for identical radio stations of the broadcasting service.

PTY Function

Select this function to receive radio stations with special programmes.

  • Press the PTY button ⑮; the display reads [PTY].

Inserting the CD

  • Carefully slide the CD or CD-R or CD-RW through the CD slot ③ into the CD compartment ③1.
  • Ensure that the side carrying audio data is facing downward. Playing starts automatically and the display ⑦ reads the details about: track, play time, storage frequency, number and status of pre-sets.

Selecting a track

Determine the playing sequence.

  • Press the □ button ⑨ until the desired track is played which is before the currently playing track.
  • Press the ▶▶⑩ until the desired track is played which follows the currently playing track.

Pause

  • Press the 1 PAU button ② to interrupt playing.
  • Press the 1 PAU button ② again to resume playing mode.

Repeat

  • Press the 2 RPT button ⑳ and the currently playing track will repeat constantly. The display ⑦ reads [RPT ONE]. The current track will be played repeatedly.
  • Press the 2 RPT button ⑳ again. The display ⑦ reads [RPT DIR] (for MP3 files only). The current file will be played repeatedly.

Disconnect

  • Disconnect the USB plug of the USB audio storage medium fully from the USB plug-in connection ③0.

■ Save/delete recording for SD or MMC

Recordings from the tuner can either be stored on an SD or MMC. The recordings are performed consecutively and end automatically once the memory of the SD or MMC is completely exhausted.

  • Insert an SD or MMC in the SD and MMC plug-in connection ⑲ as described above.
  • Use the ⚙ MD/LD button ② to select the desired play mode.

Save/delete recording for SD or MMC/Remote control/Troubleshooting

Start recording

  • Press and hold the SCN REC• button ⑪ for two seconds. The display ⑦ reads: [RPT MMC].
  • Press and hold within five seconds the [ENT BD] button ⑫ for two seconds. The display ⑦ reads: [RECORD], followed by [R] (flashing), the pre-set number (e.g. [01]) and the duration of the recording (e.g. [19.58]).

End recording

- Press the ⑧ENT button ⑫.

Start deleting

  • Start playing the track you wish to delete.
  • Press and hold the SCN REC• button ⑪ for two seconds.
    The display ⑦ reads: [DELETE].
  • Press the ⒽENT button ⑫. The current track is automatically deleted.

■ Remote control

The car radio – recorder can also be operated using the remote control

Ensure that the front edge of the remote control is directed toward the IR sensor ⑤ of the control panel ①

  • Please observe that the AF function can only be performed with the AF button ⑬ directly on the control panel ①.
  • Also observe the changed procedure on how to:

Set the volume

  • Increase the volume by pressing the vol button ⑥8.
  • Reduce the volume by pressing the vol button ⑦1.

Insert the battery

- Activate the unlock button ⑧7 and pull the battery holder ⑧6 from the battery compartment

⑧5 (see Fig. G).

- Place a Lithium battery type CR2025, 3 V DC into the battery holder ⑧ so that one side marked with + faces up. Then slide the battery holder ⑧ into the battery compartment ⑧ until it distinctly catches.

The device can not be switched on or the display indicates ERROR.
The connections for the 12 V DC power supply are faulty.
Have the errors remedied. Then press the RESET button ③6 with the tip of a biro.

The flat blade fuse 7.5 A ④⑨ in the flat fuse jack ④⑧ is defective.
Replace the used flat blade fuse against a new flat blade fuse 7.5 A. Then press the RESET button ③6 with the tip of a biro.

or

A 8 A fuse of the fuse holder of the 12 V DC power supply is defective.
Replace the used fuse against a new flat blade fuse 7.5 A. Then press the RESET button ③6 with the tip of a biro.

or

The device is defective.
Contact your national service point.

▶ The device can not be operated

The control panel ① is incorrectly connected.
▶ Ensure the fault-free connection of the control panel ①.

or

The battery of the remote control is exhausted.
Replace the used battery against a new Lithium battery type CR2025, 3 V DC.

or

The IR sensor ⑤ of the control panel ① and/or the remote control may be dirty.

    The device is maintenance free.
