Frequently Asked Questions - 345-203 Hard Head

How do I install the door closer for a left-hung door?
For left-hung doors, mount the closer on the opening side with the arm closing clockwise. Use template A, mark holes, predrill 3 mm for wood or 6 mm for metal, and secure with supplied screws. Attach the arm bracket and adjust the outer arm to right angles using set screw A.
How do I adjust the closing speed?
Use the supplied hex key to turn valve 1 (closing speed) clockwise to slow the door or anticlockwise to speed it up. Do not turn more than two turns anticlockwise from factory setting to avoid leakage.
How do I adjust the locking force?
Use the hex key to turn valve 2 (locking force). Clockwise increases the force, anticlockwise decreases it. Same caution: max two turns anticlockwise from factory setting.
What is the difference between standard arm and parallel arm mounting?
Standard arm mounts on the opening side of the door. Parallel arm mounts on the closing side, requiring the closer shaft to be preloaded 45° towards the hinge edge. Use template A for standard, template B for parallel.
How do I enable the delay action feature?
Do not use the backcheck arrester when using delay action. Turn the delay valve clockwise to increase the slow closing zone up to 70°. Do not close the valve completely.
What should I do if the door does not close completely?
First, increase the closing speed or locking force slightly. If still not closing, check door alignment in the frame and ensure the closer is correctly installed. Adjust the opening/closing force if needed.
How often should I maintain the door closer?
Perform a quarterly check: ensure the door closes properly, all screws are tight, and lubricate the closer joints and door hinges with thin oil.
Can I mount the closer on a metal door?
Yes. For metal doors/frames, drill 6 mm holes for M6 screws. Use provided screws. Ensure the closer is compatible with the door weight.
What tools are included with the door closer?
The package includes a hex key for valve and set screw adjustments, mounting screws, and fixing brackets. A drill and awl/pencil are needed for marking and predrilling.
What is the maximum opening angle for the door?
The door can open up to 180°. The backcheck arrester can be adjusted to prevent the door from opening fully into the wall.

Increase/reduce the force by turning the set screw in the direction shown in the diagram.

The arrester for backward movement prevents the door opening all the way up to the wall. Increase the arresting force by turning the valve clockwise with the supplied hex key. Do not completely close the valve. Do not use this valve if a delay action is used.

A delay action can only be used if the arrester for backward movement is not used. The delay action means that the door moves slowly to 70° . Increase the delay action by turning the valve clockwise. Do not completely close the valve.

Testing

  1. Open the door completely and release. The door should close all the way to the frame and lock.
  2. Open the door and allow the lock cylinder to rest against the lock plate. The door should lock when you release it.

If the door does not close it may be necessary to increase the closing force, or adjust the alignment of the door in the frame.

Quarterly maintenance

Check that the door closes properly and that all screw unions are tightened. Lubricate the door closer joints and door hinges regularly with a thin oil.
