Frequently Asked Questions - LA-CEF-CFD Vello

What is the Vello LA-CEF-CFD lens adapter used for?
The Vello LA-CEF-CFD allows you to mount Canon FD lenses onto Canon EF camera bodies, enabling manual focus and aperture control.
Does the adapter support autofocus?
No, the adapter is purely mechanical. Autofocus and automatic diaphragm are not supported; you must use manual exposure or aperture priority mode.
Will infinity focus be preserved?
Yes, the adapter is designed to maintain infinity focus with Canon FD lenses.
Is there any magnification?
Yes, the adapter adds a 1.25x magnification factor to the lens.
How do I mount the adapter to my camera?
Align the alignment dots on the adapter and camera, then rotate the adapter clockwise until it locks. For lenses with a breech-lock mount, rotate the locking collar first.
What is the collar for?
The collar has OPEN and LOCK positions. Use OPEN to allow more light for focusing at low apertures, then switch to LOCK before shooting.
How do I remove the adapter?
Depending on the lens mount: either press the lens release button on the camera and rotate counterclockwise, or if the lens has a breech-lock, first rotate the locking collar counterclockwise.
Can I use this adapter on Micro Four Thirds cameras?
No, the LA-CEF-CFD is designed for Canon EF mount cameras. For MFT cameras, you would need a different adapter and must enable the 'Shoot without Lens' function.
Which lens mounts are compatible?
The adapter supports both breech-lock and bayonet mount Canon FD lenses.
What is the warranty period?
The Vello lens adapter comes with a one-year limited warranty from defects in materials and workmanship.

USER MANUAL LA-CEF-CFD Vello

INTRODUCTION

Thank you for choosing a Vello Lens Adapter. Vello lens adapters allow you to use lenses from manufacturers other than the maker of your camera body. Vello Lens Adapters fit securely to the lens, but not so tightly that they are difficult to remove. Please follow these instructions to mount and remove your Vello Lens Adapter.

Although the lens will fit physically, automatic diaphragm (AE metering), and other functions dependent on communication between the camera body and lens, will be disrupted by a lens adapter. You will need to set exposures manually or meter in aperture priority (stop-down) mode. The lens adapter adds a 1.25 magnification to the lens. Focusing to infinity is retained.

All images are for illustrative purposes only.

Some Canon FD lenses have a breech-lock mount instead of a bayonet mount with a release button. If your Canon FD lens has a breech-lock mount, follow these instructions. If your Canon FD lens has a bayonet mount, follow the next set of instructions.
