Safety instructions
This appliance corresponds to accepted technological standards with regards to safety. Nevertheless, as a manufacturer we consider it our obligation to make you aware of the following safety information.
General safety
- The appliance may only be connected to a power supply with the same voltage as that specified on the rating plate (K)!
- Never use the flex to pull the plug out of the socket but pull the actual plug.
- If the mains cord of the appliance is damaged, it has to be replaced by the manufacturer or its custom or service or a trained electrician to avoid risks.
- Never use the kettle if it has been dropped or h as evident I y been damaged.
- Repairs to this appliance may only be carried out by qualified service engineers. Considerable danger may result from proper repairs. If repairs become necessary, please contact the Customer Care Department or your authorised dealer.
- Always pull out the plug, - before cleaning and attending to the kettle, - and after each time it is used, - and for faults during operation.
- Th is appl iance is not intended for use by persons (including ch ildren) with reduced ph ysical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and know ledge, unless they have been given superv ision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
Safety of children
• Only use the express kettle when supervised.
• Supervise children particularly carefully!
- Packaging material, e.g. plastic bags, should not be accessible to children.
- Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
Points to rem ember when operating the express kettle
- Before starting the appliance ensure that the mains cord and plug are dry.
• Never use the kettle with wet hands.
• Never use the appliance outdoors. - Whilst using the express kettle, high temperatures are reached which can cause scal ding if the kettle is not handled careful. Therefore only hold the appliance by the handle (F) provided.
- Do not use the kettle unsupervised. Do not place or use the kettle on hot surfaces or near naked flames.
- Attention: If the kettle is overfilled there is a risk that the boiling water may spray out. Therefore never fill the kettle above the maximum marking.
- Only use your kettle for heating water! Never put foodstuffs or foodstuff additives into the kettle. Never heat milk or stock on the kettle. Do not place any objects in the kettle!
- Never use the appliance with the lid (D) open as otherwise the automatic switch off cannot work.
• Do not move the appliance whilst it is on.
• Never immerse the appliance in liquid!
- Protect the appliance and cord from heat and wetness.
- If the appliance is used for any other purpose or is incorrectly used, the manufacturer adopts no liability for any damages which may result.
- Always empty the kettle completely. Do not leave residual water in the appliance for a long period.
• Do not switch on the appliance with out water.
• Only use the kettle with the associated base.
Using your kettle
Before using your new kettle you should wipe it inside and outside with a dam cloth due to hygienic reasons.
Initial use
Place the base unit (J) on a firm surface.
Plug themains plug into a wall socket.
If the mains cord is longer than necessary it can be wound up at the bottom of the base unit (J).
Press button (E) down to open the lid (D).
Fill I with at least sufficient water to make it visible on the water level indicator (G), but not higher than the Max. mark.
Close the Id (D) until it engages. The automatic switch off can only function reliable if this is done.
Place the kettle onto the base (J) in any position you wish.
Press the ON/OFF switch (H) down, the pilot light light up and the kettle starts to heat up.
The ON/OFF switch (H) only catches when the kettle is on the base unit (J).
Do not use the water from the first boiling cycl e to prepare food.
The automatic switch off
i The kettle will switch off automatically and the pilot light will go out when the water has boiled or the kettle is removed from the base.
If you want to stop the heating process before the kettle automaticly switches off, simply press the ON/OFF switch (H) up or lift up the jug from the base.
If you want to reheat water which has already been heated, press the ON/OFF switch (H) down again. When the water has boiled the kettle will switch off automatically. If the kettle is only filled with a little water, it takes longer to switch off.
Safety system
This appliance is equipped with a boil dry safety cut-out. This feature protects the appliance from overh eating when started without water or from boiling until it is empty if used with the lid open. If the appliance is accidentally switched on with out water, it is automaticly protected against overh eating. The heating process is automaticly interrupted. Before using the kettle again let it cool down for 5-10 minutes.
CI eaning and care
Al ways disconnect the kettl e from themains supply before cleaning.
! Never clean the kettle and base unit under running water or immerse it in washing-up water.
Occasional 1 y rinse out the kettl ewith clean water.
CI ean the outside of the appliance only using a dam p el oth. Do not use any caustic or abrasive cleansing agents.
Hold the mesh filter (B) at grip (1) and lift What to do if ... insert out for cleaning.
Wash it in warm soapy water and dry thoroughly before replacing in the kettle.
The heating base is made of stainless steel. If, how ever, spots of rust appear, these are only deposits adhering to the surface. They can be removed with a stainless steel cleaning agent.
Descal ing
i Lim e scal e deposits on the bottom of the k ettl e resul t in l oss of energy and can affect the service life of the appliance. The appliance switches off before boiling if the layer of scale is too thick. It is then very difficult to remove. The appliance should be descal ed regularly depending on the level of the water hardness. Use a standard descal er fol low ing the directions; preferably choose an environmental ly friendl y, descal ing agent suitable for stainl ess steel according to the instructions from them manufacturer.
First fill in water, then a standard descal ing preparation which is not too strong.
Alternatively: fil I the kettl ewith 3 cups of white vinegar and the remainder with water and allow to stand overnight. DO NOT BOIL.
Do not boil the solution as it could foam over.
After descal ing, rinse the kettle out through ly with clean water. Never pour descal ing agents into an enamel sink and do not reuse them.
• the appliance switch es off before boiling?
- The base of the kettle is too thickly scaled. Treat with standard commercial descaling agent suitable for stainless steel. Note the directions for use from the manufacturer.
• the appliance does not switch off?
- Close | id until it | ocks.
- Insert the strainer correctly.
• the kettl e pours badly?
- Descal e the strainer insert.
• the appliance cannot be switched on?
- after operating with very little or no water, the appliance has not yet cooled sufficiently. Wait a short time before trying again.
