Frequently Asked Questions - DB150 Fluance

What type of cable to use to connect the DB150 subwoofer to an amplifier?
Use a standard mono RCA cable. If your amplifier does not have a subwoofer output, use a speaker connection via the screw terminals.
How to adjust the volume and phase of the subwoofer?
First set the volume to 50%, then adjust the phase (0 or 180°) according to the location to get the best bass response. Adjust the volume for balance with your speakers.
What is the recommended crossover frequency for the low-pass filter?
Set the low-pass filter to about 80 Hz for Home Theater, or between 50 and 100 Hz depending on your main speakers. Avoid overlap for a seamless integration.
Can the DB150 subwoofer be used as a front speaker?
No, it is designed exclusively as a subwoofer to reproduce low frequencies. It must be paired with satellite speakers.
How to clean the subwoofer without damaging it?
Use a soft dry cloth. Never use chemicals, alcohol or water that could damage the finish or electronic components.
What to do if the subwoofer does not turn on?
Check the power cable and mains outlet. Ensure the power switch is in the ON position. If the problem persists, consult a professional.
Can the subwoofer be placed in a closed cabinet?
It is not recommended as air circulation is necessary for cooling the amplifier. Place it in an open space, at least 10 cm from walls.
What is the warranty of the Fluance DB150?
Fluance offers a limited 2-year warranty. Keep your invoice for any claim. If you have a problem, contact customer service.
The subwoofer produces a constant hum, what to do?
This may be due to a ground loop. Try plugging the subwoofer into the same outlet as the amplifier. Use a shielded RCA cable and check the connections.
How to optimize the subwoofer placement for better sound?
Place it in a corner of the room to reinforce the bass, but avoid corners for more precise sound. Experiment with position and use a frequency sweep test.

ABOUT THE SUBWOOFER

IMPORTANT: To prevent any damages to the subwoofer, please carefully read and follow the instructions below.

The FLUANCE® LOW FREQUENCY POWERED SUBWOOFER is a virtually omnidirectional speaker, therefore it can be installed in almost any location. The subwoofer's deep bass performs best when it is installed in a comer or near a wall. Since the low bass portion in audio is monaural, only one subwoofer is necessary to obtain a sufficient low frequency effect.

This unit not only enhances the bass frequency response of sound output in your audio system, it improves the overall system performance by reproducing the bass frequencies, permitting your existing amplifier and speakers to operate under less strenuous conditions.

Super bass frequencies reproduced by this unit may cause a turntable to generate a howling sound. In such a case, move this unit away from the turntable.

CAUTION - An excessive input level to the subwoofer may impair the sound quality or damage the unit. If you hear distortion coming from this unit, reduce the volume level. Extremely loud playing of prerecorded bass heavy sounds can damage this speaker system.

SETUP

CONNECTING THE SUBWOOFER

  1. Before connecting the subwoofer, be sure that the power switches of the amplifier and of the subwoofer are in the OFF position.
  2. If the amplifier or receiver is equipped with a subwoofer pre-out jack, connect this to the LINE INPUT CONNECTION on the subwoofer using an RCA type pin-plug.
  3. If the amplifier or receiver is not equipped with a subwoofer pre-out jack, connect the left and right front speaker level outputs from your component to the SPEAKER INPUTS on the subwoofer using speaker wire.
  4. When connecting the subwoofer to the amplifier, ALWAYS connect the "+" terminals to the "+" terminals and the "-" terminals to the "-" terminals.

NOTE- If terminals are connected incorrectly, the amplifier may be damaged.
