Introduction
We're really pleased that you have chosen Spinsub. Spinsub is a simple and affordable way to add reproduction of the lowest musical octave to a compact music system. It is perfect mate with Spinbase, creating a compact, full-range system that is easy to set up, sounds great, and is simple to use.
Spinsub is also the perfect addition to a traditional audio system or small powered bookshelf speakers equipped with a suitable output.
Spinsub features dual 6.5" woofers with equivalent cone area to a single 9" woofer, arranged in a vibration-canceling array.
Spinsub fits perfectly on the bottom shelf of Spinstand without causing vibrations that may affect turntable performance. It can also be placed separately.
To get the most from Spinsub, be sure to thoroughly review this manual and heed the important safety instructions. If you have any questions not covered here please contact Andover Audio support via email (support@andoveraudio.com) or phone (+1 978.775.3670).
We sincerely hope that you will be overjoyed with the years of great-sounding, simple to operate, musical entertainment that Spinsub will provide.
Please save the carton and original packaging in case you ever need to move or ship your unit.
About Andover Audio

We now focus our award-winning skills on our own product line that artfully blends exceptional sound with distinctive design.
In the Box
- Spinsub
• 3-Meter 3.5mm signal cable
• RCA-F to 3.5mm cable adapter
Rear Panel Connections

LOW-PASS FREQUENCY - Use this to adjust the low-pass crossover of the subwoofer amplifier. Sound above the selected frequency is attenuated at 12dB per octave. The recommended setting for use with Spinbase is 80Hz, which is achieved with the knob adjusted to the center position. You may prefer a different setting, so feel free to adjust it to your taste.
SUBWOOFER LEVEL - Adjust the volume level of the subwoofer to your preference. Leaving this control centered will typically provide a good sonic blend with Spinbase. However, the optimum setting will depend on the room, and placement of the unit within the room.
POWER INPUT - Connect the power cable into the wall outlet. Spinsub is compatible with worldwide voltages from 100v - 240V AC at 50 or 60 Cycles. A suitable plug adapter will be required for use in areas outside North America.
LINE / SIGNAL INPUT - Use this input to connect your Line-level source to Spinsub.
POWER STATUS LED - The LED illuminates brightly when Spinsub is on and active, and will extinguish when Spinsub enters Standby mode.
POWER SWITCH - Set to the ON position for normal use. Spinsub has a signal sensing standby mode that consumes less than 0.5 Watts when idle, so power may be left on. Set this switch to the OFF position if you will not be using Spinsub for an extended time, or to protect it from power surges during electrical storms.
How to Connect your Source
Spinsub has been optimized for use with Spinbase, but it also may be used with other source components. It requires a source component that has a line-level output controlled by its volume control. This may be labeled in a number of ways, depending on your source component. Most common are:
• Pre-Out (or Preamp out)
- Subwoofer
- Line Out
- Aux Out
An RCA to Miniplug adapter cable is included with Spinsub to facilitate use with sources other than Spinbase. Spinsub does not accept speaker-level inputs. If you wish to add Spinsub to a system that has only Speaker level output, you must use a Line Output Converter accessory.
IMPORTANT NOTE
Spinsub is compatible with Spinbase units that have a separate Line output only. Earlier Spinbase units with only a Headphone jack output are not compatible, but may be updated at a nominal cost. Contact support@andoveraudio.com for more information.
Using Spinsub
Turn on the main power using the rear panel switch. The green LED will illuminate.
It is not necessary to switch the power off between listening sessions. Spinsub has automatic signal sensing. When a signal is present, Spinsub will wake from standby and begin playing. It will reenter standby after a few minutes of no signal.
If there is excessive hum or noise in the input signal, Spinsub may not enter standby. If this occurs please identify the source of the noise and eliminate it for the most satisfying experience.
The LED indicates status. The LED glows brightly when Spinsub is active, and will extinguish when the unit is in standby. If the LED remains off when signal is present, Spinsub is not receiving power or the main power switch has not been turned on.
Room Placement and Tuning
As with any speaker, its location in your room affects how the sound fills the space. Sound is emitted from both sides of Spinsub, so be careful not to block the sides.
Thanks to Isogroove vibration reduction technology, Spinsub may be placed on the bottom shelf of Spinstand without disturbing phono playback.
The long wavelengths of low frequency sounds exceed the dimensions of most domestic rooms. As a result, the sound reflected from the walls create "standing waves" which reinforce bass in some locations, and cancel bass in others. Understanding how these standing waves work within your particular room is important to get the most satisfying overall performance. Moving the Spinsub a few feet either way can have a dramatic effect on perceived bass response. There is no "one size fits all" solution that is best for every room, so experimentation in your specific room is essential.
Placing the subwoofer directly in the center of a wall can often make the effect of standing wave reflections more pronounced. It is usually best to place the woofer a few feet to either side of center.
Corner placement will yield the strongest reinforcement of bass within the room, but may also further exacerbate standing waves. You will need to try various locations to determine what location works best in your particular room.
Depending on the location you choose, you may require a longer cable than the one supplied. Make sure whatever cable you purchase is a shielded type to prevent excessive noise pickup.
Make final adjustments to the Low-Pass crossover frequency and level once you have determined the final location. The most satisfying performance will occur when the subwoofer is loud enough to add foundation to the music, without drawing attention to itself as a separate source. In most rooms, setting the Low-Pass Frequency and Subwoofer Level controls to their mid positions will provide an ideal blend with a Spinbase unit. However, do not hesitate to adjust these controls to your preference, or to compensate for room acoustics. You will probably find yourself tweaking the settings quite a bit over the first few hours, or even days, but eventually you will find settings that please you and further adjustment will not be necessary.
