Frequently Asked Questions - 114 BROAN

How do I install the Broan 114 heater?
Installation requires cutting a hole of 18-3/8" x 3-5/8" in the base plate under a counter or kickspace. Secure the heater using screws through the side angle support brackets. Ensure the front louvered face is not recessed more than 3 inches from any overhang. Connect electrical wiring per instructions, and always turn off power before installation.
Can I convert the heater to 120V?
Yes, the Model 114 is factory wired for 240/208V but can be field converted to 120V. For 750W at 120V, disconnect white wire from terminal 2 and connect to terminal 4. For 1500W at 120V, add the provided red jumper wire between terminals 1 and 2. Also adjust alarm light wiring as shown in the manual.
How do I clean the heater?
Clean once a month. Turn off power at the service panel and ensure the heating element is cool. Use a soft brush attachment to gently vacuum grille openings or wipe with a soft cloth. Never immerse metal or electrical parts in water.
What should I do if the heater does not turn on?
First, check that the thermostat is set above room temperature and power is on. If still not working, turn off power, remove the top cover, and check for proper line voltage and wiring connections. Also inspect the thermal fuse; it may be open and need replacement. Refer to the service parts list for the correct fuse part number.
Can the heater be used outdoors?
No, this heater is designed for indoor use only. Do not use outdoors or in areas where it may come in contact with water, such as near a tub or shower.
What are the dimensions and cutout requirements?
The required cutout is 18-3/8" x 3-5/8". Overall dimensions are 19-3/8" length, 12-1/8" depth, and 3-5/8" height. The heater must be installed horizontally.
Can I use a dimmer switch with this heater?
No, do not connect the heater to a dimmer switch or speed control. Use only a thermostat designed for line voltage heating loads.
How do I install the optional thermostat?
For the built-in Model 90 thermostat, remove the top cover, remove the 5/8" knockout on the front panel, and install the thermostat with screws and washers. Attach the temperature control knob. Then connect wires: black wire to thermal fuse, white wire to temperature limit terminal 3, etc., as detailed in the manual. Alternatively, use a wall-mounted line voltage thermostat (Model 86W).
What does the alarm light indicate?
The alarm light warns that parts are getting excessively hot. If it activates, immediately turn off the heater and inspect for any objects on or adjacent that may block airflow or cause high temperatures. Clear obstructions and let the heater cool before restarting.
What is the warranty coverage?
Broan offers a 1-year limited warranty from the original purchase date covering material defects and workmanship. It does not cover misuse, improper installation, or damage from environmental factors. For service, contact Broan at 800-558-1711 within 7 days of discovering the defect.
