Frequently Asked Questions - GM-D9604 PIONEER

How do I set the gain control properly?
First, set the gain to the NORMAL position. If the output remains low even when the car stereo volume is turned up, turn the gain controls to a lower level. If distortion occurs when the car stereo volume is turned up, turn the controls to a higher level. For Pioneer car stereos with maximum output of 4 V or more, adjust the level to match the car stereo output. For use with a car stereo output of 4 V, set to the H position.
What is the protection function and when does it activate?
The protection function safeguards the amplifier and speakers. The POWER/PROTECT indicator turns red and the amplifier shuts down if the internal temperature is too high or if a DC voltage is applied to the speaker output terminal. The indicator turns red and output is muted if the speaker output terminal and speaker wire are short-circuited.
Can I bridge the amplifier? What impedance is allowed in bridged mode?
Yes, the amplifier can be bridged. In bridged mode, the minimum impedance is 2 Ω. Do not wire speakers rated at 2 Ω or lower in parallel to achieve 1 Ω or lower bridged mode, as this can cause damage. For a 2 Ω bridged load, use two 4 Ω speakers wired in parallel (left + and right -) or a single 2 Ω speaker.
How do I connect the power terminals?
Use a battery wire (sold separately) of appropriate gauge (8 AWG for lengths <2.2 m, etc.). Connect the positive terminal of the amplifier to the battery positive terminal via a 100 A fuse (sold separately). The ground wire must be the same size as the battery wire and connected to metal body or chassis. The system remote control wire should be connected to the car stereo's remote terminal or ignition switch.
What are the recommended speaker wire sizes?
Use a wire of 8 AWG to 16 AWG for the speaker wires. Ensure the battery wire and ground wire are the same size, and refer to the manual for recommended gauges based on length.
How do I select the input mode (2CH or 4CH)?
Use the INPUT SELECT switch on the amplifier. Set to 4CH for four-channel or three-channel output, and to 2CH for two-channel (stereo or mono) output. For two-channel operation, connect RCA plugs only to RCA input jack A.
What is the Bass Boost Remote Control for?
The Bass Boost Remote Control allows you to adjust the bass boost level from 0 dB to 18 dB. It only applies to CHANNEL B output. Connect it to the BASS BOOST REMOTE jack on the amplifier using the supplied 5 m wire.
How do I connect speakers for different output modes?
For four-channel output, connect left and right speakers to speaker output A and B. For two-channel stereo, connect speakers to output A (left and right). For two-channel mono, connect both speakers to output A (bridged). For three-channel, connect left/right to output A and the subwoofer to output B (mono). Refer to the connection diagrams in the manual.
What should I do if the amplifier shuts down repeatedly?
Check the power supply and speaker connections. Ensure the gain control is set correctly. If the problem persists, contact an authorized Pioneer Service Station. The protection function may activate due to overheating, DC offset, or short circuit.
Where should I install the amplifier?
Install the amplifier on a flat surface in a well-ventilated area. Do not place it on uneven surfaces or where it could get wet. Secure it using the supplied tapping screws (4 mm × 18 mm) after drilling 2.5 mm diameter holes. Keep the amplifier away from hot areas and ensure wires are not pinched or damaged.
