Frequently Asked Questions - LA-NEX-NF Vello

What is the Vello LA-NEX-NF adapter used for?

It allows you to mount Nikon F-mount lenses onto Sony E-mount cameras (including NEX and Alpha series).

Does this adapter support autofocus?

No, the LA-NEX-NF is a purely mechanical adapter. You will need to focus manually using the lens's focus ring.

Can I use Nikon G-type lenses without an aperture ring?

Yes, but you must use the aperture ring on the adapter (if available) or rely on manual aperture control. The adapter does not communicate with the camera.

Will I retain infinity focus with this adapter?

Yes, the adapter is designed with a precision helicoid to maintain infinity focus. However, some very long telephoto lenses may require calibration.

Does the adapter pass lens EXIF data to the camera?

No, EXIF data is not transmitted because there are no electronic contacts. You must manually set the focal length in the camera menu if needed.

What materials is the adapter made of?

It is constructed from brass and stainless steel for durability and smooth operation.

Is the adapter compatible with Sony A7 series cameras?

Yes, it works with all Sony E-mount cameras, including full-frame A7, A7R, A7S, and their successors.

How do I clean the adapter?

Use a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. Avoid liquid cleaners or abrasive materials that could damage the surfaces.

Can I use the adapter with third-party Nikon-mount lenses?

Generally yes, as long as the lens has a Nikon F bayonet mount. Some lenses with protruding elements may not fit.

Does the adapter affect image quality?

The adapter is optically empty, so it does not degrade image quality. However, lens quality and focusing accuracy are the user's responsibility.

INTRODUCTION

Thank you for choosing a Vello Lens Adapter. Vello lens adapters allow you to use lenses from manufacturers other than the maker of your camera body, so you can mount a lens on a camera body with which it would otherwise be incompatible. Vello Lens Adapters fit securely to the lens, but not so tightly that they are difficult to remove. Please follow these instructions to mount and remove your Vello Lens Adapter.

Although the lens will fit physically, automatic diaphragm (AE metering) and other functions dependent on communication between the camera body and lens will be disrupted by a lens adapter. You will need to set exposures manually or meter in aperture priority (stop-down) mode. If the lens does not have a manual aperture collar, the aperture will be stopped to it smallest f/stop. Focusing to infinity is retained. All images are for illustrative purposes only.

TO MOUNT THE LENS ADAPTER

Note: Place the lens on a stable, flat surface when mounting or removing your Vello Lens Adapter.

1. Line up the red alignment dot on the lens adapter with the alignment line or dot on the lens.

1. Rotate the lens adapter counterclockwise until it locks into place.

1. Line up the alignment dots on the lens adapter and the camera. Rotate the lens assembly clockwise until it locks into place.

TO ADJUST THE APERTURE RING (NEX-NG ONLY)

1. Rotate the aperture ring counterclockwise to open the aperture.
2. Rotate the aperture ring clockwise to close the aperture.

Note: For Sony E-mount (NEX) cameras, enable the "Release without Lens" function in the menu of the camera. For Panasonic Micro Four-Thirds (MFT) cameras, enable the "Shoot without Lens" function in the menu of the camera.

TO REMOVE THE LENS ADAPTER

1. Press the lens release button on the camera.

1. Rotate the lens assembly counterclockwise to release.

1. Lift and hold the release pin on the lens adapter.

ONE-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY

This VELLO product is warranted to the original purchaser to be free from defects in materials and workmanship under normal consumer use for a period of one (1) year from the original purchase date or thirty (30) days after replacement, whichever occurs later. The warranty provider's responsibility with respect to this limited warranty shall be limited solely to repair or replacement, at the provider's discretion, of any product that fails during normal use of this product in its intended manner and in its intended environment. Inoperability of the product or part(s) shall be determined by the warranty provider. If the product has been discontinued, the warranty provider reserves the right to replace it with a model of equivalent quality and function.

This warranty does not cover damage or defect caused by misuse, neglect, accident, alteration, abuse, improper installation or maintenance. EXCEPT AS PROVIDED HEREIN, THE WARRANTY PROVIDER MAKES NEITHER ANY EXPRESS WARRANTIES NOR ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. This warranty provides you with specific legal rights, and you may also have additional rights that vary from state to state. To obtain warranty coverage, contact the Vello Customer Service Department to obtain a return merchandise authorization (“RMA”) number, and return the defective product to Vello along with the RMA number and proof of purchase. Shipment of the defective product is at the purchaser’s own risk and expense.
