Frequently Asked Questions - EFS 8660-92 GRAM

How do I install the Gram EFS 8660-92 range hood?
Follow the step-by-step installation guide in the manual (Fig. 3). Ensure the mounting surface is strong enough. The hood must be connected to a suitable ventilation duct (120/150 mm diameter) for extraction mode, or install a carbon filter for recirculation mode. The distance above an electric hob should be per technical sheet; for gas hobs, follow the gas cooker's instructions.
What are the different fan speeds and how do I use them?
The hood has speeds 1 (low), 2-3 (medium), and Turbo (high, for 5 minutes). Use + and - touch sensors to adjust. Turbo is limited to 5 minutes per activation, with a maximum total of 30 minutes within an hour.
How does the gesture control work?
Gesture control uses sensors near the control panel. Move your hand from left to right to turn on the fan or increase speed; right to left to decrease or turn off. Move your hand upward to turn on lighting, downward to turn it off. Keep your hand about 5 cm from the panel.
How often should I clean the grease filter?
The aluminium grease filter should be cleaned at least once a month. You can wash it in the dishwasher or by hand with mild detergent. Frequent cleaning reduces fire risk.
When should I replace the charcoal filter?
Replace the charcoal filter every 2 months, or more often with heavy use. It cannot be washed or regenerated. Only use it when the hood is in recirculation mode (no duct to outside).
Can I use the hood without a duct?
Yes, the hood can operate in recirculation mode. You must install an activated charcoal filter (sold separately) and optionally an air guide vane. The air is filtered and returned to the room.
How do I set the off-timer?
Touch the off-timer sensor (square icon). The display shows '8'. Use + and - to select 5, 10, or 15 minutes. Touch the power sensor to confirm. A flashing dot indicates timer is active. Touch power again to cancel.
What should I do if the hood does not respond to touch controls?
First, check that the appliance is plugged in and the power is on. If the gesture control sensor is illuminated, tap it to activate the control panel. If issues persist, turn off the hood for a few minutes and try again. For electrical faults, contact a qualified technician.
Is it safe to leave the hood on unattended?
The hood is designed for safe operation, but never leave cooking with oil or fat unattended. The off-timer can automatically turn off the fan after cooking. Ensure the hood is properly installed and filters are clean to avoid fire hazards.
How do I clean the exterior of the hood?
Use a damp cloth with a neutral detergent. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or alcohol. Avoid soaking the cloth or using a water jet. For stainless steel, avoid caustic substances.

The appliance is intended for household use only.

The manufacturer reserves the right to introduce changes which do not affect the operation of the appliance.

GRAM EFS 8660-92 - GUIDELINES CONCERNING THE SAFETY OF USE 7 - 2

●The manufacturer will accept no responsibility for any damage due to installation or operation not conforming to these instructionsi

● Cooker hood is designed to remove cooking odours. Do not use cooker hood for other purposes.

- Connect the cooker hood operating in extraction mode to a suitable ventilation duct (do NOT connect the cooker to smoke or flue gas ducts, which are in use). It requires installation of the air extraction duct to the outside. The duct length (typically 120 or 150mm in diameter) should not exceed 4-5 m. The air exhaust duct is also required for telescopic and under furniture cooker hoods operating in air recirculation mode.

● Cooker hood operating in air recirculation mode requires the installation of an activated charcoal filter. In this case, installing an extractor duct is not required, however it is recommended to install an air guide vane. (chimney cooker hoods only).

●The cooker hood features independent lighting and exhaust fan that can be operated at one of several speeds.

- Depending on the type, the hood is designed to be permanently attached to a vertical wall over a gas or electric stove (chimney and universal hoods); on the ceiling over a gas or electric stove (island hoods); on the vertical built in furniture over a gas or electric stove (telescopic and built-in hoods). Before installing, make sure that the wall/ceiling structure is strong enough to suspend the hood. Some hoods are very heavy.

- For details of the installation distance above an electric hob please refer to product technical sheet If the installation instructions of the gas cooker specify a greater distance, this must be taken into account (Fig. 1a/b/c).

- Do not leave an open flame under the hood. When the pots are removed from the burner, set the minimum flame. Always make sure that the flame does not ex-

tend outside the pot, because it causes unwanted loss of energy and a dangerous concentration of heat.

●Any food cooked in fat shall be constantly monitored, since overheated fat can ignite very easily.
- Pull the plug of the power cord from a wall socket before any filter cleaning or repair operation.
●The textile grease filter should be replaced, and the aluminium filter should be cleaned at least every one month in connection with the existing fire danger (saturated fat is very flammable).
- If any other non-electric devices are used in the same room as the hood (e.g. liquid fuel ovens, flow-through or volumetric water heaters), it is necessary to provide appropriate ventilation (air supply). Safe operation is possible when during simultaneous operation of the hood and combustion devices dependent on air supply the negative pressure of not more than 0.004 milibar is

INSTALLATION

Installation

Step-by-step appliance installation is shown on Fig. 3...

Setting the air extractor mode of operation of the hood

In the extractor mode air is discharged to the outside by a special conduit. In that setting any carbon filters shall be removed. The hood should be connected to the opening discharging air to the outside by means of a rigid or flexible conduit of 120 mm diameter, which should be purchased in a shop selling installation materials.

A qualified installer should be commissioned to make the connection.

Setting the odour absorber mode of operation of the hood

In this option filtered air returns to the room through openings in the front of the hood. In this setting it is necessary to install the carbon filter. It is recommended to install the air guide (availability depending on model).

Cooker hood controls

Control Panel is shown in Figure 4, for reference it is also shown below:

This appliance features gesture control:

  1. Gesture sensors for switching the light on/off
  2. Gesture sensors for fan speed control

The control panel is equipped with touch controls: Control functions are described below:

3- Off-Timer sensor
4- Reduce fan speed sensor
5- Increase fan speed sensor
6- Display
7- Gesture control management sensor
8- Light control sensor
9- StandBy mode sensor

When you plug in your appliance, will be shown on the display for a fraction of a second, then the display will go off. Only the gesture control sensor is illuminated on the control panel. Touch to activate the appliance — the pictogram will light up

When activated, touch to start the fan.

Available fan speeds:

  • Low speed (1). Use this speed when cooking a little food with hardly any fumes.
  • Medium speeds (2 - 3). Use this speed when cooking multiple dishes at the same time with moderate amount of fumes.
  • Turbo ( ) use this speed when frying or grilling with large amount of fumes.

Use the + and sensors to increase or reduce fan speed.

Note: The Turbo speed is active only for 5 minutes (the dot on the display flashes), then the fan speed will be reduced. Turbo speed operation is time limited. By activating the Turbo speed again and again, you can use it for a maximum of 30 minutes (including the Turbo off intervals if shorter than 5 minutes). After this time, Turbo speed will not be available for the next 30 minutes — during this time, the maximum possible fan speed is 3.

To turn off the fan, touch — repeatedly until fan speed is reduced to zero , or touch ⏻

Touch to turn the lighting on. Touch again to turn the lighting off. The lighting operates independently of the on/off sensor.

Off-Timer

Use Off-Timer to turn off the hood after a specified time. Use Off-Timer to filter the fumes out of the air after cooking. The Off-Timer can be set to 5, 10 or 15 minutes. Touch ☐ to activate the Off-Timer at any time. The sensor will flash and the display will show . Now use the and sensors to select the Off-Timer delay:

Display indication Delay time [min]

Touch ⏻ to confirm your Off-Timer setting (according to the above table). A flashing dot will appear by the fan speed on the display and the sensor will flash. Touch ⏻ to deactivate the Off-Timer at any time — the dot by the fan speed and will stop flashing.

Gesture control

When you plug in your appliance gesture control is active and indicator is on. Touch to turn off the gesture control. Touch again to reactivate gesture control.

You can use gestures to control the fan speed and lighting. When gesture control is active, you can also control the appliance using the touch sensors.

Gesture control works correctly when you move your open hand about 5 cm from the surface of the control panel.

Note: Depending on the function you want to activate you need to move your hand near the sensors (Figure 4, item 1, or Figure 4, item 2). The area over which to move your hand is marked on the figures presented below in this manual.

When activating a certain function (such as turbo speed) requires multiple hand gestures, reposition your hand for another gesture away from the control panel to avoid triggering the motion sensors). Hand movements must not be too fast. Preferably, a single gesture should take about 1 second.

Aluminium grease filter

Cleaning

For normal hood operation, aluminium grease filter should be cleaned every month in the dishwasher or by hand using a mild detergent or liquid soap.

To replace:

Dismantling of aluminium grease filter is shown on Figure 5.

Acrylic filter is used in some models. This filter should be replaced at least once every two months or more frequently if the appliance is used intensively.

Charcoal filter (only the recirculation version)

Operation - Carbon filters can be used only when the hood is not connected to any ventilation duct. Filters with active carbon can absorb odours until they are saturated. They cannot be washed or regenerated and should be replaced at least every 2 months or more frequently in case of very intensive use.

Replace:

Dismantling of charcoal filter is shown on Figure 6.

Cleaning

Normal hood cleaning:

  • Do not use a soaked cloth, sponge, or water jet.
  • Do not use solvents or alcohol, as they may tarnish lacquered surfaces.
  • Do not use caustic substances, especially for cleaning stainless steel.
  • Do not use a rough or abrasive cloth.

It is recommend to use a damp cloth and a neutral detergent.

Aluminium filters may be washed in the dishwasher. The colour of aluminium filters may change after several washings. This is normal and it is not necessary to renew the filters.
