How to connect the GTM 36 receiver?

First, disconnect the power cable from your GPS. Connect the small end of the GTM receiver to the mini-USB port of the GPS, then plug the receiver's cigarette lighter adapter into a vehicle power outlet.

Why am I not receiving traffic information?

Make sure you are in an area covered by an FM station broadcasting TMC data. Move away from tall buildings and covered garages. If necessary, connect the external antenna to improve reception.

What is the traffic coverage area?

Coverage depends on FM stations broadcasting TMC information. Check www.garmin.com/fmtraffic for available areas.

How to install the external antenna?

Connect the external antenna to the designated connector on the GTM receiver. Mount it vertically on the windshield using the provided suction cups, without obstructing the driver's view.

What does the receiver power indicator mean?

When the GTM receiver is connected to a power source, the indicator lights up to show it is powered. If the indicator does not light up, check the connection to the cigarette lighter.

How to check my traffic service subscription?

On your Garmin GPS, go to Tools > Settings > Traffic > Subscriptions and select your subscription to view details. Depending on the region, the service may be free or subscription-based.

Does the GTM 36 work with all Garmin GPS devices?

It is compatible with Garmin GPS devices that have a mini-USB port and support TMC traffic data. Check compatibility in your GPS manual.

How to register my GTM 36 receiver?

GTM™ 30 Series Instructions

The Garmin GTM delivers Traffic Message Channel (TMC) information, including road conditions and traffic delays, to your GPS device. When traffic information is received, your GPS device displays traffic delays on the map. This information is used to avoid traffic delays and find the fastest routes.

The traffic information is broadcast over the FM Radio Data System (RDS). For coverage areas, refer to the Garmin Web site at www.garmin.com/fmtraffic.

NOTE: The GTM and the GPS device must be in data range of an FM station transmitting TMC data to receive traffic information.

NOTE: Garmin is not responsible for the accuracy of the traffic information. The GTM receives signals from the traffic service provider and displays that information on your GPS device.

Connecting Your GTM

1. Remove the power cable from your GPS device.
2. Connect the small end of the GTM to the mini-USB port on your GPS device.

1. Plug the vehicle power adapter on the GTM into a power outlet in your vehicle.

2. The internal antenna is sufficient in strong signal areas. An external antenna may have been included in the product box. To increase the signal range, connect the external antenna to the GTM. Use the attached suction cups to route the external antenna on the windshield vertically, if possible. Be sure not to obstruct the driver's view.

1. Route the GTM so that it does not interfere with vehicle operating controls.
2. For added support, attach the additional suction cup anywhere on the GTM.

The GTM may take up to five minutes to acquire data.

When the GTM is connected to power, the LED turns on.

Viewing Traffic Information

When the device has acquired data, appears on the map page of your GPS device.

TIP: If you have trouble receiving traffic information, you may be in a poor signal area. Drive your vehicle to an open area, out of garages and away from tall buildings. Connect the external antenna, if necessary.

NOTE: Heated (metallized) windshields could degrade the performance of the GTM.

Verifying Your Service Area

Touch Tools > Settings > Traffic (> Subscriptions), and select a subscription to check service information.

Service and Subscription Information

Depending on your region, your traffic receiver receives traffic data through either a premium service or a free, public service. For information about your traffic service subscription, see the product packaging or the traffic settings in the GPS device. The subscription activates automatically after your Garmin GPS device acquires satellite signals while receiving traffic signals from the service provider.

You can add other FM TMC subscriptions at any time. Go to www.garmin.com/fmtraffic.

Registering Your GTM

To register your GTM, go to http://my.garmin.com and enter the 9-digit serial number printed on the tag attached to the GTM.
