Frequently Asked Questions - LAG-MFT-NF Vello

What is the Vello LAG-MFT-NF adapter used for?
It is a lens adapter that allows attaching Nikon F-mount lenses to Sony E-mount cameras, providing a 0.71× focal length reduction and approximately one stop of additional light on APS-C sensors.
Does this adapter support autofocus or electronic aperture control?
No, the adapter does not have electronic contacts. You must focus manually and control the aperture via the adapter's manual aperture ring.
What is the benefit of the 0.71× magnification factor?
It effectively reduces the crop factor of APS-C sensors, giving a wider field of view. For example, a 50mm lens on APS-C normally behaves like 75mm; with the adapter it becomes approximately 50mm and gains one stop of light (e.g., f/1.4 becomes f/1.0).
Can I use this adapter on a Sony full-frame camera?
Yes, but you must enable APS-C crop mode on your camera to avoid vignetting. Some cameras do this automatically.
Which Nikon lenses are compatible?
It works with all Nikon F-mount lenses, including AI and non-AI types. However, lenses with protruding rear elements may not fit.
How do I mount the lens adapter?
First, attach the adapter to the camera by aligning the dots and rotating clockwise. Then attach the lens to the adapter by aligning its dot and rotating counterclockwise until it locks.
How do I adjust the aperture?
Rotate the aperture ring on the adapter: counterclockwise to open (wider aperture) and clockwise to close (smaller aperture). It clicks in 1/2-stop increments.
What is the tripod foot for?
The removable tripod foot provides a 1/4"-20 socket for mounting the adapter-lens-camera assembly on a tripod, helping to balance heavier lenses.
How do I clean and maintain the adapter?
Wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using solvents like benzene or alcohol, and keep it away from sandy or dusty environments.
What is covered by the warranty?
The adapter is warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for one year from the original purchase date. Contact Vello customer service for a return authorization.

THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING VELLO

The Vello Accelerator Lens Adapter is for attaching Nikon F-Mount lenses to Sony's E-mount cameras. It allows a nearly full-frame field of view on APS-C crop-sensor cameras by magnifying the angle of view by 0.71×. This also provides an extra stop of light without decreasing image quality. For example, mounting a 50mm f/1.4 lens to an APS-C sensor will

usually give you a 75mm angle of view. By adding the Accelerator, you effectively keep it close to the original focal length of 50mm with a stepped-down f-stop of f/1.0. This is a great advantage for the widely accepted APS-C crop format.

The Vello Accelerator affords additional benefits, with a manual aperture ring for selecting the f-stop in 1/2-stop increments. It's compatible with the Nikon's F-Mount lenses, including AI and non-AI. It has four elements in four groups to maintain image quality. And the detachable tripod foot will work with most brands of ball heads.

Although the lens will fit physically, there is no electronic communication between the adapter, lens, or the camera. Automatic diaphragm (AE metering) and some other functions will be disrupted by the adapter.

Note: When using the Accelerator on Sony full-frame cameras, you must switch to crop (APS-C) mode for compatibility. Refer to your camera's user manual for information on APS-C mode. Some cameras will perform this switch automatically.
