How to set the language and date on the camera?

When turning on for the first time, the Language/言語 screen appears. Use the navigation button to select the desired language (French available), then press OK. Next, set My City (time zone) and enable or disable Daylight Saving Time (DST). Finally, set the date, time, and display format (24h/12h). Press OK to confirm.

How to charge the battery for the first time?

Use the supplied D-BC78 charger. Connect the AC power cord to the charger, then to the outlet. Insert the D-LI78 battery into the charger with the PENTAX logo facing up. The charging indicator lights up; it turns off when charging is complete (approx. 150 minutes). Ambient temperature should be between 0°C and 40°C.

How to insert an SD memory card?

Make sure the camera is turned off. Open the battery/card compartment cover. Insert the SD (or SDHC) memory card with the label facing the front of the camera (lens side), pushing it all the way in. Close the cover. To remove the card, open the cover and press the card to eject it. Never remove the card during recording or playback.

How to use the flash?

In capture mode, press the ▶ navigation button (◀) to cycle through flash modes: Auto (automatic), Flash Off, Flash On, Auto+Red-eye, Flash On+Red-eye, and Soft Flash. The flash range is approx. 0.2 m to 4.4 m at wide-angle and 0.6 m to 2.8 m at telephoto (auto sensitivity).

How to take a panoramic picture?

Select Digital Panorama mode from the capture mode palette (press ▼ in capture mode). Frame the first part of the scene, then press the shutter button. The camera guides you to frame the next part; repeat. The camera automatically combines the images into one panoramic photo.

How to record a video?

In capture mode, select Video mode from the capture mode palette. Press the shutter button to start recording; press again to stop. You can adjust quality (★★★, ★★, ★), frame rate (30 or 15 fps), and pixels (640×480 or 320×240) in the [Rec Mode] > [Video] menu.

How to edit a photo (cropping, filters)?

In playback mode (▶), display the image to edit, then press ▼ to open the playback mode palette. Select Resize to change size, Crop to cut a part, or Digital Filters to apply effects (B&W, sepia, color, etc.). Follow on-screen instructions and press OK to save the edited copy.

How to delete images?

In playback mode, display the image to delete and press the green button (). The delete screen appears: select Delete with ▲ then press OK. To delete multiple images, switch to 9-thumbnail display (zoom out) and use the Select & Delete function of the green button. You can also delete all images from the [Settings] > [Format] menu (caution: erases everything).

How to connect the camera to a TV?

Use the supplied AV cable. Plug the cable connector into the AV terminal of the camera (under the cover) and the other end into the TV's video/audio inputs (matching colors). Turn on the camera in playback mode. Set the TV to the appropriate input. The video format (NTSC/PAL) must match your region; set it in [Settings] > [Video Output] if necessary.

What to do if the camera does not turn on?

First check that the battery is charged and inserted correctly. If the battery is low, recharge it. If the camera still does not turn on, remove the battery, wait a few seconds, then reinsert it. Also try removing the SD memory card and turning on again. If the problem persists, contact an authorized PENTAX repair center.
