Frequently Asked Questions - POS-833 Deltaco

How do I interface the scanner with my computer?
The Deltaco POS-833 supports three interfaces: Keyboard Wedge (connects between keyboard and PC), RS-232 (serial port), and USB. Choose the appropriate cable and follow the installation steps in the manual (pages 3).
How can I change the scanner's output language?
The language for the keyboard interface can be set via Group 3. Scan the 'Enter Group 3' barcode, then scan the label for your desired language (e.g., U.S., French, German), then scan 'Exit'. See page 12-13.
Can I set a custom barcode length for a specific symbology?
Yes. For many symbologies (e.g., Interleaved 2 of 5), you can define fixed or multiple lengths. Refer to the group for that symbology (e.g., Group 9-1). Scan 'Enter Group #', then 'Length Define' or 'User Define', then scan hexadecimal digits from Table-Hex (page 49) for the desired length(s), then 'Confirm' and 'Exit'. See examples on pages 24-28.
How do I add a prefix or suffix to the scanned data?
Use Group 6: Preamble and Postamble. Scan 'Enter Group 6', then 'Preamble' or 'Postamble'. Then scan the hexadecimal code for each character from the ASCII table (page 50-51) using the Table-Hex barcodes (page 49). Maximum 10 characters each. Finish with 'Confirm' and 'Exit'. See page 18.
What does the LED and buzzer indicate?
When the scanner is ready, the LED lights up and the buzzer sounds. A successful read is indicated by a short beep and LED flash. The buzzer pitch and duration can be adjusted in Group 23 (page 46).
How do I reset the scanner to factory defaults?
Scan the 'Set All Defaults' barcode located in the Setup Flow Chart section (page 7). This will erase all custom settings and restore factory defaults.
Can I scan barcodes continuously without pressing a trigger?
Yes. In Group 5: Scan Mode, you can select 'Continuous/Trigger Off' (option 4) or 'Continuous/LED Always On' (option 5). Scan the corresponding label after entering Group 5. See page 16-17.
How do I enable or disable a specific barcode symbology?
Each symbology has its own group (e.g., Group 8 for Code 39). Enter the group, then scan 'Enable' or 'Disable'. For example, to disable Code 39, scan 'Enter Group 8', then 'Disable', then 'Exit'. See page 22.
What do I do if the scanner doesn't read any barcodes?
First ensure the interface is correctly installed. Check that the scanner is in the correct mode (e.g., trigger mode). Try scanning a test barcode from the manual. If using RS-232, verify baud rate and parity settings. If problems persist, restore defaults (Set All Defaults) and reconfigure.
How can I set a timeout for trigger-off mode?
In Group 5, select option 3: 'Trigger On/ Good Read Off/ Delay Timeout = ?'. Then after scanning 'Enter Group 5', scan the 'Delay-Timeout' label, then scan two hex digits for the timeout value (e.g., 30 hex = 48 seconds) using Table-Hex, then 'Confirm' and 'Exit'. See page 16.

5) Repeat the procedure for other groups including the parameters to be changed

Example 1:

Set the operating mode to "Continuous mode"

1) Scan "Enter Group 5"
2) Scan "Continuous/Trigger off"
3) Scan "Exit"

Example 2:

Assign Preamble string as "#", and postamble string as "END"

1) Scan "Enter Group 6"
2) Scan Preamble
3) Refer to ASCII Table (page 50) and find the code number in hex decimal:

# ASCII => 23 hex The two digit numbers are:

2 3

4) Refer to Table-Hex: HEXADECIMAL (page 49) and scan the two digit labels accordingly.

5) Scan "Confirm" Label in Table-Hex

6) Scan "Postamble"

7) Refer to the ASCII Table for the code numbers in hexadecimal (E => 45, N => 4E, D => 44)

8) Refer to Table-Hex: HEXADECIMAL (page 49) and scan the six digit labels consecutively.

4 5 4 E 4 4

9) Scan "Confirm" Label in Table-Hex.

10) Go back to Group 6 and scan Exit

Example 3:

3) Scan Six Digit Labels in Table Hex (Page 49)

Tips:

- Refer to the Hexadecimal-Decimal Conversion Table (page 52) to acquire the 3 sets of barcode length in Hexadecimal Number

$$ \mathbf {1 1} \text { dec } \Rightarrow \mathbf {0 B} \text { hex } $$

$$ 2 8 \text { dec } \Rightarrow 1 C \text { hex } $$

$$ 4 3 \text { dec } \Rightarrow 2 B \text { hex } $$

- Refer to the Table-Hex: HEXADECIMAL (page 49) and scan the 3 sets Labels accordingly.
