Frequently Asked Questions - DFA-617DB Vivax

How do I preheat the air fryer?
Turn on the appliance, select temperature and time (e.g., 180°C for 3-5 minutes), then press Start. The machine will preheat and beep when ready.
Why is my air fryer not working?
Check that the mains connection is secure, the barrel is fully inserted into the main unit, and the thermostat/timer are set. The micro-switch prevents operation if the barrel is not properly inserted.
Can I use oil in the air fryer?
Yes, but only 1-2 teaspoons to help crispiness. Too much or too little oil may affect results. Most recipes recommend the appropriate amount.
How do I clean the air fryer?
Unplug and let cool. Remove the barrel and basket. Wash them in warm soapy water or dishwasher (barrel only). Wipe the main unit with a damp cloth. Never immerse the main unit in water.
Why are my fries not crispy?
Possible causes: overcrowding the basket, using too little oil, or not preheating. Try shaking the basket halfway through cooking and lightly brushing oil on snacks meant for deep frying.
What is the 10-minute shutdown memory function?
If the barrel is removed for more than 10 minutes, the appliance automatically switches off. You must then reset time, temperature, and press Start again.
Can I cook frozen foods directly?
Yes, but adjust cooking time. Frozen foods may require a few extra minutes. Refer to typical frying times in the manual (e.g., french fries 15-17 min at 180°C).
Why does my air fryer produce smoke or odor on first use?
The first use requires 10 minutes of dry burning. A small amount of white smoke or odor is normal. Run the appliance empty at high temperature to eliminate manufacturing residues.
What are the preset cooking modes and their default settings?
Air Fry (180°C, 21 min), Bake (170°C, 12 min), Roast (200°C, 15 min), Reheat (180°C, 15 min), Dehydrate (140°C, 30 min). Temperature and time can be adjusted manually.
Is the appliance safe to leave unattended?
No, the user must not leave the device unattended while it is connected to the supply. Always supervise during use and unplug after cooking.

Intended Use

This device is used for Air-frying food.

It is intended exclusively for this purpose and may only be used as such. It may only be used in the manner described in these instructions for use. The device must not be used for commercial purposes.

Any other use of this device is considered to be contrary to the intended use and may result in damage to materials or even personal injury.

Cooking Technology

Air fryers use convection heat to cook foods so that they are browned and crispy on the outside but remain moist and tender on the inside. Cooking with an air fryer takes less time and makes less of a mess than deep frying or traditional oven roasting.

The top section of an air fryer holds a heating mechanism and fan. You place the food in a fryer-style basket and when you turn it on, hot air rushes down and around the food. This rapid circulation makes the food crisp—much like deep-frying, but without the oil.

In most cases, you'll want to add just 1 or 2 teaspoons of oil to help the food get nice and crispy

Common Mistakes

  • Overcrowding the basket: The food in the barrel needs air around it. If you overcrowd the basket in your air fryer, your food won't have a lot of exposed surface area.
  • Using too much or too little oil: Air fryer call for only a teaspoon or two of oil. If too much or too little oil is added, you won't get those crispy, browned results. Most recipe s will recommend the amount that's right for that dish, but when in doubt, give everything a quick spritz with oil—just don't overdo it.
  • Skipping the preheat step: An Air fryer is like an oven: It needs to be hot before you start with cooking. Preheat your Air frayer before usage.
