Frequently Asked Questions - IB-DK2246AC Icy Box

What is the maximum number of displays I can connect?
You can connect up to three displays simultaneously. The docking station supports triple video output via one Alt Mode HDMI® and two DisplayLink® HDMI®/DisplayPort™ interfaces, each capable of 4K@60Hz when the host supports DP Alt Mode and DisplayLink® driver.
Do I need to install a driver before using the dock?
Yes, it is essential to install the DisplayLink® (Synaptics) driver from Synaptics website before connecting the dock for the first time. Follow the installation instructions and restart your computer. Chrome OS™ has the driver pre-installed.
Can I charge my laptop through the docking station?
Yes, if your laptop supports USB Power Delivery over USB-C® and you use a USB-C® host port that supports Power Delivery, the dock can deliver up to 100W to charge your laptop. Note that when using the USB-A adapter, Power Delivery is not supported.
Why is my monitor not displaying or showing a lower resolution?
Ensure your computer supports DP Alt Mode over USB-C® and that the DisplayLink® driver is installed. The Alt Mode HDMI® output only works with DP Alt Mode hosts. Check the video matrix table in the manual for resolution limits based on your host capabilities.
Does the dock work with USB-A ports?
Yes, using the included USB-C® to USB-A adapter, you can connect to a USB-A port. However, when using USB-A, DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery are not supported, so only the two DisplayLink® video outputs will work, and charging your laptop is not possible.
How do I mount the docking station behind a monitor?
Use the included VESA mount bracket compatible with 75x75 and 100x100 mm patterns. Screw the bracket to the dock using the two M2 screws, then attach the assembly to the monitor's VESA mount using the four M4x12 mm screws. You can also sandwich it between the monitor and a monitor arm.
What should I do if the dock is not recognized by my computer?
First, check that the DisplayLink® driver is installed correctly. Reboot your computer. Ensure the USB-C® cable is firmly connected and the power supply is plugged in (LED should be blue). Try a different USB-C® port or use the adapter on a USB-A port. Also verify that your computer supports USB 3.2 Gen 1 at minimum.
Can I use the dock with a Thunderbolt™ 3/4 port?
Yes, the dock is compatible with Thunderbolt™ 3/4 ports. Thunderbolt™ ports support DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery, so you can use all features including triple video and laptop charging.
How do I set up extended displays on macOS®?
After installing the driver and connecting the dock, go to System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement. Drag the monitor icons to arrange them. To change resolution, go to the Display tab and select 'Scaled' to choose a resolution. Hold the Option key while clicking 'Scaled' for advanced settings with refresh rate options.
Is there a Kensington lock slot for security?
Yes, the dock features a Kensington Lock support (slot) to secure the device against theft using a standard Kensington cable lock.

i DisplayPort™ Alt Mode ? Computer manual

USB Type-C ^TM ≠ USB Type-C ^TM

Important!

This ICY BOX product requires the usage of DisplayPort™ Alt Mode technology over the USB Type-CTM connector. Not all computers, notebooks or tablets with a USB Type-CTM interface support the DisplayPort™ Alt Mode.

Please check the specifications of your computer system as well as its USB Type-CTM interface or use the ICY BOX product with a ThunderboltTM 3 connector.

To use this dock to its full potential, ensure that the USB Type-C® host port of your computer supports USB Power Delivery and DP Alt Mode, or Thunderbolt™ 3 / 4.

Attention!

In case your computer supports only the DP Alt Mode protocol and the DisplayLink ^® driver is not installed:

- only the Alt Mode HDMI® (4K) interfaces can be used.

In case your computer does not support the DP Alt Mode protocol and only has USB 3.2 Gen 2 and the DisplayLink ^® driver installed:

- only the HDMI® / DisplayPort™ 1 (4K) and HDMI® / DisplayPort™ 2 (4K) interfaces can be used.

Note!

When using the device on a computer without Power Delivery support via a USB Type-C® port or using a USB Type-A port (via adapter), please note the following:

Information about the attached USB Type-C® to Type-A adapter:

For a better connection compatibility with host computers that only have a USB 3.2 Gen 1/2 Type-A interface, we have added an additional USB Type-C® to Type-A adapter.

Should you wish to use this adapter on your computer, please note the following technical restriction when using the DockingStation via a Type-A port: In this case the Type-A interface does in no way support DP Alt Mode via the Alt Mode HDMI® interfaces and Power Delivery which is a prerequisite for the Power Delivery charging option. This means the DockingStation cannot be used to charge the computer.

To use this dock to its full potential, ensure that the host USB Type-® port of your computer supports USB 3.2 Gen 2, DP Alt Mode and USB Power Delivery.

Please consult your host PC documentation or contact the PC manufacturer to confirm compatibility with these technologies. For safety reasons, please check whether the host PC Bios Version is the latest and confirm compatibility with USB Type-C® Power Delivery, DP Alt Mode and USB 3.2 Gen 2 before application.
