Read the instruction manual carefully, before using this device.
On pages 24 en 25 you will find the technical details of the EBC chargers.
The EBC charger belongs to the 'Econline' product group. The products from the Econline are very suitable for use in caravan, mobile home or holiday crafts. Permanent connection to the battery and main voltage is possible. This way a battery can be held in good condition when it, for instance, is put away for the winter.
All chargers from the EBC-series have the possibility to connect two batteries(groups). The outputs are separated by a diode. This way the charge current is divided but the batteries can not discharge each other.
Temperature protection
During the bulk charging phase the fan is always working. This fan is also temperature controlled. When the internal temperature is increases to much, the fan will be switched on automatically. When the internal temperature is normal again, the fan stops. If the cooling of the fan isn't enough the charger will shut down totally. When the charger has cooled down it will continue the charging process.
How the temperature protective devices operate will depend strongly on the ambient temperature.
Short circuit on the output
The charger is protected from short circuit when no battery is connected, even in the presence of 230VAC.
Batteries on the other hand cannot withstand short circuit!
You should for this reason never short circuit the battery. Never short circuit when the charger is connected to the battery, irrespective of whether 230VAC is present. When a battery is short circuited there is a danger that it will explode!!! The charger too will then incur serious damage.
Level of protection
The indication for the degree of protection contains the character 'IP' (International Protection) followed by two or three digits that stipulates the conditions that it complies with.
The first digit refers to the class of protection for density, the second digit to the fluid density and the last digit refers to the impact resistance. The EBC charger can be assigned IP 205, which means:
2 = the charger is protected against solid particulate larger than 12mm.
0 = the charger is not protected against water/liquid etc.
5 = the charger can bear an impact force of 2.00 Joule (2Nm) max.
Important
Protect the charger against moisture, pollution etc. This can damage the charger internally. The cost for this repair is not covered by warranty.
THE CHARGING PROCESS
The charging process consists of 3 phases. The length of the charging time depends on the battery quality, battery capacity, dept of discharge and any present users.
Bulk charging
The charging current is 100% and the voltage increases until the set voltage is reached. The charger always starts in this stage for a minimum of 30 minutes.
Absorption charging
The charging current is at most 100%, but because the battery is filling up the charging current decreases. The charging voltage is kept on the set value. If the charging current is less than 25% the charger will switch to the last fase.
Float charging
The battery is full and will be maintained with a lower, firm voltage (set value). The delivered current is low. If the requested current is more than 100% of the maximum charge current, the charger will switch back to the main charging phase.
Important
If you want to remove the charger from the battery, it's important that the charging process is always completely finished. As such, the connection between the charger and the battery should only be broken when the green LED 'float' lights. If the charging process is interrupted before it is completed, the battery can become damaged.
When disconnecting the battery, at interruption of the mains voltage or when the charger is turned off, the current charging process will stop. When a battery is re-connected, the mains voltage is present again or when the charger is turned on again, in all cases a new charging process will start.

Charging voltages
The EBC has different charging voltages because each battery type needs other voltages to ensure the longest duration of life. Therefore, the right charging voltages need to be set beforehand by means of switches.
Disconnect the charger from the mains. On the front panel of the charger you will find six switches. The charging voltages can be set by means of the first five switches. The sixth switch should be in the OFF position. The schedule bellow is a good directive, however always consult the technical details of your battery or your battery supplier. The charge voltages for each setting can be found on page 24.

Under no circumstances must these dipswitches be set arbitrarily. This can lead to irreparable damage of the battery and any devices which may be connected.
Power supply
The EBC battery charger can also be used as a power supply. The users can be connected to the charger directly, so without intervention of a battery. For this mode the sixth switch should be set to the ON position.
The power supply voltage can also be set. The maximum power supply current is equally to the charging current.

INSTALLA T ION
The atmosphere
The inverter must be mounted in a space that complies with the following:
- Leave enough space on all sides of the charger (min. 10 cm) for air circulation. In addition, make sure that there are ventilation vents.
- The ambient temperature must be between 0^ C and 40^ C. The optimum temperature is between 15^ C and 25^ C.
- Mount the charger in a dry place where there is no chance of it being affected by moisture or dirt.
- Keep the charger out of the reach of children.
- Do not use the charger in places where gases are released or flammable materials are stored.
- It is normal that the housing is warm during charging.
- The EBC charger may not be used outdoors.
Important
- do not charge when there is a fuel leak or fuel is evaporating.
- when the charger is to be used in an aluminium or steel ship/vessel, it must be insulated by suspension. That is, in order to avoid electrolysis, the casing of the charger may not be in contact with the ship.
Connection
One cable set is delivered with the EBC charger. Extra cables can be mounted when more batteries are charged.
- Mount the red cable(s) on the '+' output(s) of the charger. The black cable can be mounted in the same way on the '-' output of the charger.
- Connect the other sides of the cables on the poles of the battery. Red on the plus pole and black on the (joined) minus.
If you want to connect own cables, the below formula should be followed:
Max. charge current x distance x 0,2 = required while thickness

- After the battery has been connected to the charger the power plug can be put into a socket outlet and the on/off switch can be turned in the 'on' position. The charging process will begin.
When disconnecting the charger, the charger must be turned off and the power plug must be removed from the outlet.
Important
- The charger will become broken if the polarisation is reversed.
- The battery junction that isn't linked with the frame should be connected firstly. The other junction must be made with the frame.
- The connection between the charger and the battery must be made some distance from the fuel installation.
- Damaged wires/cables should be replaced immediately.

MAINTENANCE
The charger doesn't need any specific maintenance. When cleaning the housing, use a (squeezed) dry cloth. Remove any filth and dust from the ventilation openings of the charger. Follow the instructions of the manufacturer when using and handling the battery. CAUTION! A battery contains corrosive sulphuric acid.
Important
- Check the charge status of battery charger on a regular basis.
- Check the cables and connection between the charger and battery regularly.
- Check the ventilation vents en fan on a regular basis.
- Check the degree of acidity of a non-maintenance free battery on a regular basis
WARRANTY
Before sending the charger back, always advice the Trouble Shooter and other information in this manual firstly. If a problem could have been solved by means of this manual, we are obligated to charge the repair/research costs.
In case of a malfunction, the charger can be brought back to your supplier or it can be send to the address on the back of this manual. The charger must be send prepaid. The EBC charger carries a two-year warranty. This warranty only covers the costs of parts and labour for the repair. The warranty period is only valid when a copy of the purchase ticket is handed over with the repair. The warranty will lapse when a third party has attempted to repair the charger or when the charger is not installed or used in accordance with the instructions. Do not attempt to repair the charger yourselves.
The manufacturer cannot be hold responsible for the voltage settings or any damage resulting from use of the EBC charger.
