Frequently Asked Questions - HPA1072-2 Cotech

Why won't the pressure washer start?
Check that the plug is securely connected and the socket has power. Ensure the fuse is intact. The power switch must be in the 'ON' position. If the machine is pressurised, press the trigger to release pressure. Also try without an extension cable.
What should I do if the pump provides low pressure?
Clean or replace the nozzle if blocked or worn. Check water supply: a 10-litre bucket should fill in one minute. Inspect hose for kinks. Clean the inflow filter. If the plunger seals or valve seat are damaged, contact customer service.
How do I adjust the nozzle spray pattern?
Rotate the nozzle on the lance to switch between narrow (high pressure) and wide (low pressure) beams. The turbo lance is not adjustable.
Can I use detergent with this pressure washer?
Yes, the machine has a detergent tank. Fill with approved detergent diluted as per manufacturer instructions. Use the adjustable nozzle lance or car wash brush in low-pressure mode (nozzle pulled off) to apply detergent.
How do I store the pressure washer after use?
Turn off and unplug the machine. Shut off water tap. Press trigger to release remaining pressure. Disconnect hoses. Clean the inflow filter and nozzle. Store in a dry, frost-free place between 5°C and 40°C, out of reach of children.
What safety precautions should I take?
Always wear protective goggles and clothing. Never aim the water jet at people or animals. Use a residual current device (max 30 mA). Keep a 15 m safety zone. Do not use if under influence of alcohol or drugs.
How do I clean the inflow filter?
Disconnect the garden hose from the water inlet. Use pliers to remove the filter from the connection. Rinse it with clean water and replace it before reconnecting the hose.
The trigger is stuck, what should I do?
Check if the safety lock on the pistol grip is engaged. Disengage it to free the trigger.
Can I use a longer hose than the one provided?
You can use an extension hose, but ensure it is at least 6 m long and 1/2 inch in diameter. Longer hoses may reduce pressure. Use a garden hose with a threaded or quick-connect fitting.
What is the maximum water temperature allowed?
The incoming water temperature must not exceed 40°C. If the hose has been in the sun, let cooler water run through before starting the machine.

  1. Connect a garden hose (not included) to a water supply and to the connection for incoming water (4). Use a threaded connection or a quick connection.

The connection for incoming water (4) is factory fitted with a filter for removing sand and other pollutants that may damage the pump vents.

  1. Press the trigger and release any air until the water flows.

Caution: The temperature of the incoming water must not exceed 40^ C. Let the water run for a while before starting if the hose has been lying in the sun and is warm. The high pressure cleaner must always be used in an upright/vertical position. Never use it lying down.

Caution: Make sure there are no people or pets within the risk zone of 15 m from the nozzle before assembly continues. The high pressure cleaner must be used in an upright/vertical position; use the high pressure cleaner standing up.

  1. Make sure that the garden hose is intact and fastened at both ends. Turn the tap all the way on (or enough that the water supply is sufficient for the high pressure cleaner.)

  2. Connect the mains cable to a socket, press the pistol grip trigger, aim the lance in a safe direction, and turn on the motor with the power switch (1).

If water is taken from a tank or similar without natural pressure, the pump and inflow of those must be filled with water before the pump is started. The tank must be at a higher level than the high pressure cleaner. If the water is polluted or cloudy, an inflow filter must be installed on the hose's inflow.

Attention: The recommended distance between the nozzle and surface to be washed is approximately 30 cm. Shorter distances provide higher cleaning power and may damage the surface being cleaned. Longer distances provide softer cleaning of fragile surfaces.

Do not place the connection cable on a pavement, cycle lane, etc, exposing it to damage.

Caution: Do not use a shorter connection hose than 6 m (1/2 inch hose). The hose absorbs any pressure surges in the water line and protects the high pressure cleaner, making it work more softly.

Narrow beam Wide beam

Caution: When the water sprays out from the lance, a recoil effect occurs on the lance. Therefore, make sure that you hold it steadily with both hands and that you stand firmly.

Never aim the water jet at people or animals or against the high pressure cleaner or any electrical equipment.

Use protective goggles, as water and particles may be kicked back when you aim the water stream at an object.

Caution: Turn off the high pressure cleaner during a long pause in your work. Do not leave the machine switched on without supervision. Activate the safety lock at the trigger.

5.3 Adjustment of the nozzle

(The turbo lance cannot be adjusted)

Make sure that the high pressure cleaner is correctly assembled. Aim the lance at the surface to be washed, press the trigger and turn on the motor with the power switch (1). Set to narrow or wide beam by turning the nozzle.

LOW <--> HIGH

5.4 Use with detergent

The high pressure cleaner is equipped with a tank for detergent. Remove the rubber lid on the tank and add detergent (dilute according to the recommendations of the manufacturer,) replace the rubber lid.

The absorption of detergent only works with the lance with an adjustable nozzle (7) and the car wash brush (10). When using the brush, the detergent will be added continuously and the nozzle is controlled as follows:

  • Press the nozzle of the lance to use the lance for high pressure cleaning. No detergent is added from the tank (HIGH).
  • Pull off the nozzle of the lance to use the lance when adding detergent (LOW).

5.5 Adjustment of the terrace cleaner

The terrace cleaner has two possible adjustments:

  • Raising and lowering the nozzles by releasing a lock and adjusting to the desired height.
  • Adjusting the pressure with the lever

5.6 Switch off after use

  1. Press the power switch.
  2. Turn off the tap.
  3. Reduce the pressure on the remaining water in the pump and hose by pressing the trigger for a few seconds, or until the water has run out of the nozzle.
  4. Unplug the hose.

5.7 Storage

Make sure the inflow filter in the connection for incoming water (4) and the nozzle are cleaned before the high pressure cleaner is put away in storage. Store the high pressure cleaner in a dry and frost-free place out of reach of children and other people who have not read the operations manual.

Disconnect the cable and lance and store them with the high pressure cleaner. Avoid storing the high pressure cleaner in temperatures below 5^ C or above 40^ C.

Attention: Protect the high pressure cleaner from frost. Make sure that it is completely empty before it is put away for storage.

Caution: Never run the high pressure cleaner dry, as the pump's seals may be damaged.

Remember that the high pressure cleaner can be pressurised also when switched off. Depressurise it by pressing the trigger before disconnecting the hoses. Disconnection of the high pressure hose while the system is pressurised may be dangerous.

Caution: Never look straight into the nozzle if the plug is still in the socket and if the high pressure cleaner is not switched off and depressurised. Preferably remove the lance from the pistol grip.

6. Care and maintenance

Caution! Turn the pressure washer off and pull out the plug before servicing or adjusting the machine!

It is important that the inflow filter (4) is cleaned regularly if the pressure washer is to function properly. The filter should be removed and cleaned to prevent dirt in the water from damaging the pump and seals. The nozzle must also be cleaned regularly or when it is not working properly.

  • Check that the nozzle is open, carefully remove dirt and deposits; rinse with clean water.
  • Clean the inflow filter after use: Loosen the hose from the connection, remove the filter with pliers, and clean when necessary and replace the filter.
  • Protect the pressure cleaner against frost, empty it completely.*
    * Start the pump and let it run for 30 seconds in order to empty completely.
