Frequently Asked Questions - IAN 275713 MELINERA

How to turn the fairy lights on or off?
Press the AUTO/OFF button (2) to turn the lights on. They turn on and off automatically at dusk. Press again to turn them off manually.
Why does the lights not turn on even after a sunny day?
Artificial light sources (streetlights, etc.) can disturb the sensor. Place the lights in an area without nearby artificial lighting. Otherwise, check that the solar cell is clean and the battery is charged.
How to replace the battery?
Remove the solar cell housing (1) from the cover (5). Turn off using the AUTO/OFF button. Loosen the fixing screws (7) with a crosshead screwdriver, lift the battery compartment cover. Replace the used battery with a new one of the same type (NiMH, AA, 600 mAh, 1.2 V) observing polarity. Close the cover and tighten the screws. Turn on again.
What type of battery to use?
Use a rechargeable NiMH battery, AA size, 600 mAh and 1.2 V. Do not use other types of batteries, as this could damage the product or cause an explosion.
How long does the battery last after a full charge?
The operating time depends on sunlight, angle of incidence and temperature. In sunny weather, the lights can illuminate for several hours after nightfall. The battery reaches its full capacity after several charge/discharge cycles.
Can I use these lights indoors?
This product is intended for outdoor use as ambient lighting. It cannot be used for room lighting. The solar cell needs sunlight to charge the battery.
Are the lights waterproof?
Yes, it has a protection rating of IP44, protecting it against splashing water. It can be used outdoors, but do not immerse the product in water.
How to clean the solar cell?
Clean the solar cell regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a slightly damp cloth. In winter, remove snow or ice that could block the cell.
What to do in winter or if not used for a long time?
If you do not use the lights for a long period (e.g. in winter), clean them and store them in a dry, heated room. Remove the battery if left unused for a long time to prevent leakage.
Where can I contact customer service?
Customer service is provided by Uni-Elektra GmbH: Kirchstr. 48, 72145 Hirrlingen, Germany, phone +49 (0) 7478 / 91385-0, email service@uni-elektra.de. Please have your receipt and reference number IAN 275713 ready.

- Functionality

The solar cell built into the product converts sunlight into electricity and stores it in a Ni-MH rechargeable battery. The light switches on at dusk. The built-in LED is an energy-saving illuminant with a very long life. The light duration depends on the amount of sunlight, the angle at which light hits the solar panel, and the temperature (the battery capacity varies by temperature). A vertical angle of light at temperatures above the freezing point is ideal. The rechargeable battery will only achieve its maximum capacity after several charging and discharging cycles.

- Initial use

Assembling the fairy lights

☐ Push the ground spike 3 into the upright tube 4. Then attach the cover 5 to the upright tube 4 (see Fig. A).

☐ Slide the solar cell housing 1 over the cover 5 (see Fig. A).

1 Guide the fairy lights 11 through the fastening clip 8 with the illuminant facing down (see Fig. B).

2 Pull the fairy lights 11 up.

3 Now attach the paper lantern 10.

4 Carefully slide the holder 9

5 into the paper lantern 10 and secure to the grommets 12 (see Fig. B).

Installing the fairy lights

☐ Push the ground spike 3 far enough into the ground (lawn, flower bed) so it is firmly positioned upright in the ground.

☐ Make sure it is firmly positioned. Do not use any force when assembling or setting up the product, e.g. hammer blows. This will damage the product. For optimal results, hang the solar fairy lights in a location where the solar cell is exposed to sunlight for the longest possible amount of time.

☐ Make sure the solar cell is not impacted by other light

sources, e.g. yard- or street lighting, or the light will not switch on at twilight. In low light the light will automatically switch on, and automatically switch off in normal ambient light.

- Switching the fairy lights on/off

☐ Push the AUTO / OFF button 2 to switch the fairy lights on. The fairy lights 11 will automatically switch on or off at twilight.
□ Push the AUTO / OFF button 2 again to switch the fairy lights 11 off.

●Replacing the rechargeable battery

Note: For optimal performance, the rechargeable battery should be replaced every 12 months.

☐ Remove the solar cell housing 1 from the cover 5.
☐ Press the AUTO / OFF button 2 to switch the fairy lights off.
Remove the fixing screws 7 using a small cross-tip screw-driver. Then open the battery

cover on the solar cell housing 1 using a flat-head screw-driver.

Replace the old battery with a new one; be sure not to damage the cables. Be sure to insert the batteries in the correct direction. This is indicated in the battery compartment. Use only rechargeable batteries of the recommended type (see "Technical Data").

☐ Close the battery cover and tighten the retaining screws 7 using a small cross-tip screw-driver.

□ Push the AUTO / OFF button 2 to switch the fairy lights on.

☐ Slide the solar cell housing 1 back onto the cover 5 (see Fig. A).

- Charging

The battery charging period using the solar cell depends on the intensity of the sunlight and the angle incidence of the light on the solar cell. Place the solar cell as perpendicular as possible to the angle of light incidence. In this way you will receive the highest light levels.

●Maintenance and Cleaning

The LEDs cannot be replaced. The solar fairy lights are maintenance free except for replacing the battery.

☐ Regularly clean the solar fairy lights with a dry, lint-free cloth. Use a slightly moist cloth to remove any stubborn dirt.

- Troubleshooting

Note: The device contains sensitive electronic components. Radio transmitting equipment in the immediate vicinity may therefore cause interference. If you notice the device is malfunctioning, remove any sources of interference from the area around the device.

Notice: Electrostatic discharge can lead to malfunctions. In the event of such malfunctions, briefly remove and reinsert the rechargeable batteries.

Error Cause Solution
The light will not switch on although the fairy lights have been exposed to sunlight all day.Artificial light, e.g. street light, will interfere with the fairy lights.Install the fairy lights in a location where they will not be affected by other light sources.
The light does not come on or comes on only briefly. The rechargeable battery is broken or there was not enough daylight.Replace the rechargeable battery or install the fairy lights in a location where they are exposed to more sunlight.
