Frequently Asked Questions - IAN 284989 MELINERA

How to assemble the fairy lights?
Push the ground spike into the upright tube, attach the cover, then guide the fairy lights through the fastening clip with the illuminant facing down. Carefully clamp the fairy lights and attach the paper lantern by sliding the holder into the lantern and securing to the grommets.
How to replace the rechargeable battery?
Remove the solar cell housing from the cover, switch off using the AUTO/OFF button, remove the fixing screws, open the battery cover, replace the old battery with a new Ni-MH AA 600 mAh battery ensuring correct polarity, close the cover, tighten screws, and switch back on.
Why doesn't the light turn on despite being exposed to sunlight all day?
Artificial light sources (e.g., street lights) can interfere. Install the fairy lights in a location free from other light sources. If still not working, the battery may be defective or insufficient daylight; replace the battery or relocate to a sunnier spot.
How to clean the solar fairy lights?
Regularly clean with a dry, lint-free cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a slightly moist cloth. Ensure the solar cell is free of dirt, snow, and ice to maintain performance.
Can I use these fairy lights indoors?
No, the product is intended for outdoor decorative use only and is not suitable as residential room lighting.
What type of battery does it use?
It uses one Ni-MH rechargeable battery, size AA, with a capacity of 600 mAh and voltage of 1.2 V. Only replace with the recommended type.
How long does it take to charge the battery?
Charging time depends on sunlight intensity and angle. For optimal charging, place the solar cell perpendicular to sunlight. The battery reaches full capacity after several charge/discharge cycles.
Can the LEDs be replaced?
No, the LEDs are non-replaceable. They are energy-saving illuminants with a very long life.
What does the IP44 rating mean?
IP44 means the product is splash-proof from all directions. It is suitable for outdoor use but should not be submerged.
What is the warranty period?

- Functionality

The solar cell built into the product converts sunlight into electricity and stores it in a Ni-MH rechargeable battery. The light switches on at dusk. The built-in LED is an energy-saving illuminant with a very long life. The light duration depends on the amount of sunlight, the angle at which light hits the solar panel, and the temperature (the battery capacity varies by temperature). A vertical angle of light at temperatures above the freezing point is ideal. The rechargeable battery will only achieve its maximum capacity after several charging and discharging cycles.

- Initial use

Before first use, remove the protective film from the solar panel.

Assembling the fairy lights

☐ Push the ground spike 3 into the upright tube 4. Then attach the cover 5 to the upright tube 4 (see Fig. A).

Note: Slide the solar cell housing 1 over the cover 5 if this has not been pre-installed (see Fig. A).

1 Guide the fairy lights 11 through the fastening clip 8 with the illuminant facing down (see Fig. B).
② Carefully clamp the fairy lights 11 in the fastening clip 8.
3 Now attach the paper lantern 10.
4 Carefully slide the holder 9
5 into the paper lantern 10 and secure to the grommets 12 (see Fig. B).

Installing the fairy lights

☐ Push the ground spike 3 far enough into the ground (lawn, flower bed) so it is firmly positioned upright in the ground.
☐ Make sure it is firmly positioned. Do not use any force when

assembling or setting up the product, e.g. hammer blows. This will damage the product. For optimal results, hang the solar fairy lights in a location where the solar cell is exposed to sunlight for the longest possible amount of time.

☐ Make sure the solar cell is not impacted by other light sources, e.g. yard- or street lighting, or the light will not switch on at twilight. In low light the light will automatically switch on, and automatically switch off in normal ambient light.

- Switching the fairy lights on/off

☐ Push the AUTO / OFF button 2 to switch the fairy lights on. The fairy lights 11 will automatically switch on or off at twilight.
☐ Push the AUTO / OFF button 2 again to switch the fairy lights 11 off.

●Replacing the rechargeable battery

Note: For optimal performance, the rechargeable battery should be replaced every 12 months.

☐ Remove the solar cell housing 1 from the cover 5.
☐ Press the AUTO / OFF button 2 to switch the fairy lights off.
☐ Remove the fixing screws 7 using a small cross-tip screw-driver. Then open the battery cover on the solar cell housing 1 using a flat-head screw-driver.

☐ Replace the old battery with a new one; be sure not to damage the cables. Be sure to insert the batteries in the correct direction. This is indicated in the battery compartment. Use only rechargeable batteries of the recommended type (see "Technical Data").

☐ Close the battery cover and tighten the retaining screws 7 using a small cross-tip screw-driver.

☐ Push the AUTO / OFF button 2 to switch the fairy lights on.

☐ Slide the solar cell housing 1 back onto the cover 5 (see Fig. A).

Charging

The battery charging period using the solar cell depends on the intensity of the sunlight and the angle incidence of the light on the solar cell. Place the solar cell as perpendicular as possible to the angle of light incidence. In this way you will receive the highest light levels.

●Maintenance and Cleaning

The LEDs cannot be replaced. The solar fairy lights are maintenance free except for replacing the battery.

☐ Regularly clean the solar fairy lights with a dry, lint-free cloth. Use a slightly moist cloth to remove any stubborn dirt.

- Troubleshooting

Note: The device contains sensitive electronic components. Radio transmitting equipment in the immediate vicinity may therefore cause interference. If you notice the device is malfunctioning, remove any sources of interference from the area around the device.

Note: Electrostatic discharge can lead to malfunctions. In the event of such malfunctions, briefly remove and reinsert the rechargeable batteries.

Error Cause Solution
The light will not switch on although the fairy lights have been exposed to sunlight all day.Artificial light, e.g. street light, will interfere with the fairy lights.Install the fairy lights in a location where they will not be affected by other light sources.
The light does not come on or comes on only briefly. The rechargeable battery is broken or there was not enough daylight.Replace the rechargeable battery or install the fairy lights in a location where they are exposed to more sunlight.
