7.3 Usage

Before using for the first time, clean the stainless steel grate (1) and the grease collection tray/reflector (6). This removes dust and any packaging residue. For more on this, please refer to the "Maintenance/cleaning" section on page 42.

FLORABEST FLG 40 A1 - Usage - 1

When powering the barbecue on for the first time, have the charcoal glow for 30 minutes, before using it to prepare food.

FLORABEST FLG 40 A1 - Usage - 2

Minor smoke development can occur when the device is heated first when starting a new barbecue session. For this reason, the device should be heated for 10 to 15 minutes prior to preparing grilled food for the first time.

  1. Loosen both latches (7) and remove the stainless steel grate (1).
  2. Place the device on an even, non-slip and dry surface.

  3. Remove the charcoal container (4) and its cover (3) and fill the charcoal container (4) with approx. 0.5 kg charcoal up to the upper edge of the container.

FLORABEST FLG 40 A1 - Usage - 3

For optimum cooking results you should use barbecue charcoal and not charcoal briquettes.

FLORABEST FLG 40 A1 - Usage - 4

Do not use any other fuel than charcoal.

  1. Apply a 10 mm thick ring of fire gel around the centre of the fire gel tray (5). The fire gel should be within the circle stamped on the fire gel tray (5). Otherwise, the flame will be smothered. Should the fire gel tray (5) move out of place, insert it again into the centre of the grease collection tray/reflector (6).

  • Place the grilled food onto the stainless steel grate (1), as soon as the charcoal is covered with a layer of ash. This normally takes 5 minutes at maximum fan speed.
  • If undesired flame formation occurs during charcoal glowing, reduce the air supply using the control dial (9). To do this, turn it anti-clockwise.

Next, you can prepare grilled dishes using your charcoal barbecue. With a little practice, you can regulate the fan speed and thus the heat using the control dial (9). This way, you can either grill your dishes crispier or cook them gently.

  1. Once you are done grilling, switch the charcoal barbecue off. Turn the control dial (9) counterclockwise to the OFF position, until it engages.
  2. Remove the prepared dishes from the stainless steel grate (1).

FLORABEST FLG 40 A1 - Risk of burns! - 4

Risk of burns!

After the fan is switched off, the charcoal can still be glowing for some time and the stainless steel grate (1) can be very hot. Be careful not to burn yourself.

7.4 Tips for good grilling results

- After firing up, leave the control dial (9) in the maximum position (clockwise until it stops) so that the charcoal barbecue can heat up evenly. If unwanted flames appear during the charcoal warming up phase, reduce the fan speed by turning the control dial (9). To do this, turn it counter-clockwise.

  • The unit allows low-fat, healthy cooking of meat, fish, sausages, poultry and vegetables. It may be necessary to cut large or thick pieces of meat into smaller pieces or thinner slices.
  • Do not pierce the meat so it does not lose liquid. Otherwise it can dry out.
  • Season the food and turn it occasionally. We recommend the use of wooden barbecue tongs. You can also brush fish with butter.
  • At the top fan speed, the charcoal barbecue heats up very quickly. Keep an eye on thin pieces of food and sausages to stop them burning. Turn it frequently or turn the fan speed down.
  • The charcoal barbecue develops the most heat in the centre. Put bread on the edges to toast it. Put thick slices of meat in the centre to cook.
  • Do not grill pickled or smoked meat.
  • Cut any charred or burnt pieces of food off and do not eat them. Also, make sure you do not drip any beer on meat or sausages. Crusts and burnt bits can be carcinogenic!
  • Cut the fat from the edge of the meat and, for best results, only use lean meat cut into small pieces. If the fat ignites and flames appear, turn the control dial (9) counter-clockwise to the "OFF" position and take the meat from which the fat is dripping off the stainless steel grate (1). Once the flames have disappeared, you can increase the fan speed again using the control dial (9) and place the food back onto the grate. Do not extinguish the flames with water.

7.5 Topping up the charcoal

You can top up the charcoal if necessary. It is best to do this before the charcoal in the charcoal container (4) is used up. This means the new charcoal can be kindled from the existing embers.

FLORABEST FLG 40 A1 - Topping up the charcoal - 1

Risk of burns!

Use heat-resistant gloves in accordance with the PPE Ordinance (category II for heat protection, DIN-EN 407). Otherwise you could get burnt.

FLORABEST FLG 40 A1 - Risk of burns! - 1

Warning about property damage

Only put the charcoal container (4) and its cover (3) on heat-resistant surfaces. Otherwise, the surface could be damaged by these hot accessories.

  1. Switch the charcoal barbecue off if you wish to top up the charcoal. Turn the control dial (9) counterclockwise to the OFF position, until it engages.
  2. Remove any remaining food from the stainless steel grate (1).
  3. Loosen both latches (7) and remove the stainless steel grate (1). Place the stainless steel grate (1) on a suitable surface.
  4. Remove the cover of the charcoal container (3). It is best to do this with barbecue tongs and always wear barbecue gloves. Use heat-resistant gloves in accordance with the PPE Ordinance (category II for heat protection, DIN-EN 407) Otherwise you could get burnt.
  5. Place the cover of the charcoal container (3) on a suitable surface.

  6. Add the new charcoal to the charcoal container (4). When you do so, make sure that you do not overfill the charcoal container (4) so that you can close it again once you have finished.

  7. Place the cover (3) onto the charcoal container (4). Place the stainless steel grate (1) down again. Turn the grate such that the two brackets (2) are aligned with the latches (7). Lock the stainless steel grate (1).
  8. Turn the control dial (9) to the MAX position (clockwise until it stops) to power on the fan. Wait a few minutes for the new charcoal to kindle and for any smoke to dissipate. You can then continue grilling.

8. Maintenance/cleaning

In order to avoid burning food residues, clean the charcoal barbecue after every use.

FLORABEST FLG 40 A1 - Maintenance/cleaning - 1

Risk of burns!

Wait until the charcoal barbecue is completely cool before cleaning it. Otherwise you could get burnt.

FLORABEST FLG 40 A1 - Risk of burns! - 1

Warning about property damage

Do not use abrasive or astringent detergents or tools which could scratch the surface (e.g. metal sponges). These could damage the charcoal barbecue.

  1. Loosen both latches (7) and remove the stainless steel grate (1).
  2. Remove the charcoal container (4) with its cover (3).
  3. Remove the grease collection tray/reflector (6).
  4. Clean the stainless steel grate (1) and the grease collection tray/reflector (6) in the sink using washing-up liquid. You can carefully tap the charcoal container (4) with its cover (3) and clean it using a brush or dry cloth as needed. Clean the casing (8) and the stand (11) with a slightly damp cloth.

8.1 Storing the charcoal barbecue

It is best to unscrew the stand (11) before storing the charcoal barbecue. Loosen and remove the knurled screw on the stand (11) and push the shaft fully down. Next insert the knurled screw into the hole and then tighten it. Then fold the legs together.

Store the charcoal barbecue and stand (11) in a dry place free of dust.

Remove the batteries when the charcoal barbecue is not to be used for an extended period.
