How do I connect the DJ-003 to my computer?

Connect the mixer to your computer using the USB port on the rear panel. Install the ASIO driver (Windows only) from the included CD. On Mac OS X, no driver is needed. Then launch Virtual DJ to begin.

Does the DJ-003 work with other DJ software?

The mixer is optimized for Virtual DJ and includes a license for Virtual DJ LE. It may work with other software that supports ASIO or standard MIDI/HID controllers, but full functionality is not guaranteed.

How do I install Virtual DJ software?

Insert the CD and run the installer. Follow on-screen instructions: accept the license agreement, choose installation type, and enter the serial number printed on the CD. After installation, restart the software and enter the keycode when prompted.

Why is there no sound from my headphones?

Ensure headphones are plugged into the front panel jack. Adjust the CUE level knob and press the CUE button for the desired channel. Also check the CUE/PGM balance control to blend preview and master audio.

How do I use the effects?

Press the FX ON/SEL button to enable effects on a deck. Rotate the FX 1/2 knob to adjust effect parameters. Hold SHIFT and press FX ON/SEL to select a different effect from the 8 available (flanger, phaser, echo, etc.).

Can I record my mix using the DJ-003?

Yes, connect the RECORD output (RCA) on the rear panel to the input of a recording device. Alternatively, use the Virtual DJ software's recording function to save your mix directly to your computer.

What does the balanced XLR output do?

How do I set up a microphone?

Why does Virtual DJ stop after 10 minutes?

The 10-minute limitation occurs if you have not entered the Virtual DJ LE license key. Enter the keycode provided with your mixer in the software to unlock full functionality. Instructions are in the user manual.

What is the proper cleaning method for the DJ-003?

1. DRIVER AND SOFTWARE

This driver software is an exclusive ASIO driver for outputting audio signals from the computer. To use this unit connected to a computer on which Windows is installed, install the driver software on the computer beforehand.

There is no need to install the driver software when using Mac OS X.

2. VIRTUAL DJ SOFTWARE

» Windows

1. Once the VIRTUAL DJ installer is launched, click NEXT.
2. Read the contents of the End-User license agreement carefully, and check AGREE button if you do agree to the terms. Click NEXT to go forward.

1. Select the type of installation for VIRTUAL DJ, then click NEXT.
2. Click Install to perform an installation, then press FINISH.
3. Enter the serial number attached to the CD, then click OK to confirm.

» Mac OS X

1. Double click the VIRTUAL DJ installer.
2. Once the installer is launched, click Continue.
3. Read the contents of the End-User license agreement carefully, and check Agree if you do agree to the terms. Click Next to go forward.
4. Select the type of installation for VIRTUAL DJ, then click Next.
5. Click Close.

A license keycode (provided with Virtual DJ LE) is required to use the unit. Without the above license key, the controller will operate for 10 minutes each time you restart Virtual DJ.

A detection window will appear asking to use or not the pre-defined audio setup with the built-in sound card of the unit. By choosing the pre-defined audio setup speakers and headphones need to be connected to the relative unit sockets.

If your unit came with a Virtual DJ LE Keycode, use the enter keycode button to enter it. If a Pro Infinity or Plus license is available and you

have logged in the previous window, this button will not be offered.

The unit is now ready to operate.

The MASTER output connects the unit to your main amplifier.

The RECORD output can be used to connect the mixer to the record input of a recording unit, thus enabling you to record your mix.

The BOOTH output can be used as an output source for monitors or booth playback.

1. Balanced XLR output

The XLR BALANCED OUTPUT section has left and right XLR outputs for balanced operation of stereo outputs.

» Browser:

1. LOAD button

Loads the track selected with the cursor in each of the decks. Button 1 on deck 1, button 2 on deck 2.

2. BROWSE knob

Use this knob to scroll through lists of tracks, crates, etc. Push the knob to engage the selection

3. PAGE LEFT

Use this button to set focus to the previous Browser window.

[SHIFT]+ Use this button to show/hide the side view window of Browser.

4. PAGE RIGHT

Use this button to set focus to the next Browser window.

[SHIFT]+ Use this button to cycle through the available views of side view (Sampler, Automix, Sidelist, Karaoke and Clones).

» Effect:

1. FX ON/SEL button

Press to turn the effect on and off on each deck.

[SHIFT] + Press to select the desired effect.

2. FX 1/2 knob

Rotate it to adjust the effect's parameter 1 on each deck.

[SHIFT] + Rotate to adjust the effect's parameter 2.

3. SAM ON/REC button

Press to start/stop playback of the sampler.

[SHIFT] + Press to record playback music to sampler.

4. SAM VOL knob

Adjust the audio level of the selected sampler.

» Deck:

1. PLAY/PAUSE button

Play/pause tracks.

2. CUE button

This is used to set, play and call out temporary cue points.

When the [CUE] button is pressed while pausing, the temporary cue point is set. When the [CUE] button is pressed during playback, the track returns to the temporary cue point and pauses.

When the [CUE] button is pressed and held after the track returns to the temporary cue point, playback continues as long as the button is pressed in.

[SHIFT] + Press to send the track to the beginning

3. SHIFT button

When another button is pressed while pressing the [SHIFT] button, a different function is called out.

4. SYNC button

The tempos (pitches) and beat grids of tracks on multiple decks can be synchronized automatically.

[SHIFT]+ Press this button to manually tap the tempo of the track (requires at least 4 taps while the track is playing). When the track is paused, press this button once (with SHIFT) to set the current position as a beatgrid anchor.

5. SCRATCH button

Turns scratch mode on or off. If scratch mode is on, the button will light up and the center part of the jog wheel will scratch like a turntable when you spin it. If scratch mode is off, the center part of the jog wheel will pitch bend when you spin it.

[SHIFT]+ Use this button to turn the Slip mode on/off. When Slip mode is enabled, several actions (scratching, hot cues, loops) will act temporary and the track will return to the position it would have been if the Slip mode was never enabled.

6. KEY LOCK button

Turn the key lock function on and off.

7. PITCH BEND - button

Push to automatically lower the pitch down from the existing pitch setting.

[SHIFT]+ Press the left (-) button to select the previous available pitch range.

8. PITCH BEND + button

Push to automatically raise the pitch up from the existing pitch setting.

[SHIFT]+ Press the right (+) button to select the next available pitch range.

9. PITCH slide

Use this to adjust the track playing speed.

10. JOG Wheel

When the scratch mode is on, the scratch operation is possible.

When the scratch mode is off, the pitch bend operation (adjustment of the playing speed) is possible.

[SHIFT] + Rotate to search within the playing track

Set the hot cue mode.

Set the auto loop mode

15. Performance pads

The performance pads are used to control the hot cue, loop, sampler, slicer functions.

» Hot cues:

In the play or pause mode, press a performance pad to set the hot cue point, the hot cue points are assigned to the respective performance pads as shown below.

[SHIFT] + Press to delete its assigned hot cue point.

» Using loop function:

Each pad assigns to loop length.

When using the loop roll function, once a performance pad is pressed, a loop with the number of beats assigned to that pad is set, and the loop is played while the button is being pressed.

[SHIFT] + Press one of the pads to trigger a momentary Loop Roll of a different pre-selected size in beats, as per the image below. Once the pad is released, the track will return to the position it would have been if the loop was never triggered.

» Using sampler function:

Tracks loaded in the sampler slots of the sampler can be played with the performance pads. The sampler has four banks, AUDIO FX, FAMOUS, INSTRUMENTS, VIDEO SCRATCH, when the bank is switched, the pads light to indicate the currently selected bank.

[SHIFT]+ Press any of the PADS to stop the playing sample (useful if the Stutter or Unmute trigger pad mode is selected)

» Using slicer function:

The 8 PADS represent eight sequential beats – Slices in the beat grid. The currently playing Slice is represented by the currently lit pad. The light will move through the pads as it progresses through each eight-slice phrase. Press a pad to repeat that Slice (hold it down if you want to keep looping it).

Once the Pad is released the track will continue to play from the position it would have been if the pad was never pressed.

[SHIFT]+ Use the PADS to adjust the Step of the Slices and the length of the Loop applied to the slice

» Mixer:

1. Booth level control - Adjusts the level of audio signals output from the [BOOTH] terminal.

2. CUE/PGM control - Adjusts the balance of the monitor volume between the sound of the channels for which the headphones [CUE] button is pressed and the sound of the master channel.

3. CUE level control - Adjusts the level of audio signals output from headphone.

4. Master level control - Adjusts the master sound level output.

5. Master level indicator - Displays the master output's audio level.

6. GAIN control - Adjusts the individual channel output gain.

7. EQ (HI, MID, LOW) control - These adjust the sound quality input to the various decks.

8. FILTER control - Applies the filter effect for the respective channel.

The original sound is output when the control is at the center position.

Turn counter-clockwise to gradually decrease the low-pass filter's cutoff frequency.

Turn clockwise to gradually increase the high-pass filter's cutoff frequency.

1. CUE (Headphones cue button) - Use this to monitor the sound of the respective decks over the headphones.

2. Channel fader - Adjust the level of audio signal output in each channel/

3. X-fader - Switches the sound of the decks assigned to the left and right sides of the crossfader for output.
