Before using the appliance, read the following instructions carefully and keep this manual for future reference. The appliance must only be used by persons familiar with these instructions.

Connection to the mains supply

The appliance should only be connected to an earthed socket installed in accordance with the regulations. Make sure that the supply voltage corresponds with the voltage marked on the rating label. This product complies with all binding CE labelling directives.

Important safety instructions

• In order to avoid hazards, and to comply with safety requirements, repairs to this electrical appliance or its power cord must be carried out by our customer service. If repairs are needed, please send the appliance to our customer service department (see our service addresses in the separate warranty booklet or on www.severin.de).
• Before commissioning, check the whole appliance, including the power cord and any accessories, to ensure that there are no defects or damage, which could impair the functional safety of the appliance. For example, if the appliance has fallen onto the floor, or the power cord has been pulled, there may be damage that cannot be seen from the outside. In such cases,

do not operate the appliance.

• Warning! The housing surfaces and accessories get hot during operation and remain so after. Risk of burns!
• Always pull out the power plug before cleaning. Always allow the appliance sufficient time to cool down before removing the grill plate and before cleaning or storing the appliance.
• For reasons of electrical safety, the main unit must never be cleaned with liquids or immersed in them.
• Clean the grill plate, spatulas and mini-pans with lukewarm water and detergent. For more information on cleaning, please refer to the “Cleaning and Care” section.
• The appliance is not intended to be operated by means of an external timer or separate remote-control system.
• Place the appliance freely on a stable, temperature-resistant, splash-proof surface to prevent hot fat from spilling. Some splashes are unavoidable when grilling greasy food.
• Never place the appliance directly against a wall or corner, and ensure there are no flammable objects in the vicinity.

• This appliance is intended for domestic or similar applications, such as the

• staff kitchens in shops, offices and other similar working environments,

• agricultural working environments,
• by customers in hotels, motels etc. and similar accommodation,

- in bed-and breakfast type environments.

- Warning! Misuse of the appliance can lead to injuries.

- This appliance may only be used by children (at least 8 years of age) and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lacking experience and knowledge, provided they have been given supervision or instruction concerning the use of the appliance and fully understand all dangers and safety precautions involved.

- Children must not be permitted to play with the appliance.

- Children must only be permitted to carry out any cleaning or maintenance work on the appliance if they are supervised and at least 8 years of age.

- The appliance and its power cord must be kept well away from children under 8 at all times.

- Caution: Keep any packaging materials well away from children – such materials are a potential source of danger, e.g. of suffocation.

- Do not allow the power cord to touch any hot part of the appliance.

- Do not leave the appliance unattended while in use.

- Before each use, place the grill plate on the appliance over the heating element.

- Do not use or store the appliance outdoors!

• Always remove the plug from the wall socket

- after use,

- in case of any malfunction, and

- before cleaning the appliance.

- When removing the plug from the wall socket, never pull on the power cord; always grip the plug itself.

- Never touch the mains plug with wet hands.

- This appliance should only be used with the attachments provided by the manufacturer.

- Avoid using sharp objects when placing or removing food to prevent scratching the surface of the mini-pans and grill plate.

- No responsibility will be accepted if damage results from improper use, or if these instructions are not complied with.

Intended Use

• The appliance is intended solely for grilling and gratinating food such as meat, fish, vegetables, cheese, etc.
• Only use the appliance with the accessories provided.
• Any other use contrary to the instructions shall be deemed improper and may result in severe injury or damage to the appliance.

Before first use

• Completely remove all advertising stickers, remaining packaging materials and inserts.
  Never remove the nameplate!
• Before first use, wipe the grill plate and mini-pans with a damp cloth.
• Leave the appliance with the grill plate and mini-pans in place to heat up for about 10 minutes without food to allow any unpleasant odour to dissipate (you may notice slight smoke coming from the appliance). You may notice a slight odour, which will disappear shortly. Ensure adequate ventilation by opening windows and balcony doors.
• Then, clean the appliance and all accessories, as described under "Cleaning and Care".

Grill plate

• Before using the appliance, place the grill plate on the heating element with the coated side facing upwards.
• Apply a light coat of oil to the grill plate first to prevent the food from sticking.

Temperature control and indicator light

• The variable thermostat controls the operating time of the heating element, with the yellow indicator light showing its current operating status.
  Heating element on = indicator light on Heating element off = indicator light off
• When melting cheese or grilling, the maximum setting should be used (thermostat control all the way to the right).
• Simply to keep food warm, the thermostat should be adjusted to a lower setting (thermostat control further to the left).
• Turn the thermostat all the way to the left and unplug the appliance from the mains after use.

Operation

• Place the grill plate onto the unit as described above.
• Insert the plug into a suitable wall socket and turn the thermostat all the way to the right.
  • After a pre-heating time of about 10 minutes, the grill plate is ready for use.
• Place the food to be cooked on the grill plate.
• Put the raclette cheese into the mini-pans and place them into the appliance under the heating element; then leave them until the cheese has melted.
• Warning: Do not place empty mini-pans in the appliance while it is switched on, but leave them on a heat-resistant surface.
• Use the spatulas to remove the food from the mini-pans.
• Turn the thermostat all the way to the left and unplug the appliance from the mains after use.

How to prepare raclette cheese

Use about 200 to 300 grammes of suitable cheese per person. Cut the cheese into slices about 3 to 5 mm thick and put them into the mini-pans. It is preferable to use original raclette cheese but any other fast-melting cheese is also suitable.

Practical hints

• Frozen food should always be properly thawed before it is cooked.
• Avoid using sharp objects when placing or removing food to prevent scratching the surface of the mini-pans and grill plate.

Cleaning and care

• Before cleaning the appliance, always make sure that the plug has been removed from the wall socket and allow the appliance to cool down completely.
  • To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the appliance with water and do not immerse it in water.
• Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions.
• Wipe the outer surfaces of the grill with a clean damp cloth.
  • Take the grill plate off and clean it in warm soapy water; dry thoroughly with a soft cloth afterwards.
• Wash the mini-pans and spatulas with hot water and washing-up liquid and then dry with a cloth.
  • These parts are not dish-washer safe.

Devices marked with this symbol must be disposed of separately from your household waste, as they contain valuable materials which

can be recycled. Proper disposal protects the environment and human health. Your local authority or retailer can provide information on the matter.
