6. Initial operation and use

CAUTION! Risk of injury from burning.
The casing will become hot during operation.
Therefore, only touch the appliance during operation using the buttons and handles provided for this purpose.
Before you use the appliance for the first time, please proceed as follows:
Connect the toaster to a 220-240 V \~ 50/60 Hz safety socket;
▶ Set the browning control to the highest level (7) and push the lever down to switch on the toaster. Do not put any bread into the toaster this time.
▶ Repeat this process four times once the toaster has switched itself off.
The appliance is now ready for use.

Please note
There may be some steam and/or smell when the toaster is switched on for the first time. This is quite normal. You might need to ventilate the room well.
7. Using the toaster
Proceed as follows for toasting bread:
Connect the toaster to a 220-240 V \~ 50/60 Hz safety socket. Make sure that the crumb tray is correctly inserted.
Put a maximum of two slices of bread into the toaster, one in each slot.
▶ Set the browning control to the required level according to taste (1 = lowest level of browning, 7 = highest level of browning).

Note
When using the toaster for the first time, or if you are unsure of the required level of browning, select a lower level. The level of browning depends on the type of bread. You will need to make several attempts to find out which level of browning is suitable for which type of bread. To achieve even browning by toasting several times, wait around 1/2 minute after each time.

Please note
The level of browning will be higher if you only use one slot in the toaster or if the slot is not full. You should therefore set the browning control between level 2 and 3 as a maximum, to avoid excessively dark toast.
Press down the lever until you hear it lock into place. The heat-
ing elements switch on automatically and the LED next to the cancel button lights up. The toast pops out of the slot as soon as it reaches the level of brown-ing set. The heating elements will turn off.
If you want to end the toasting process early, press the cancel button ▲. The heating elements will turn off and the toast will pop up.
The light next to the cancel button on the appliance comes on as soon as the toaster is in use.
7.1. Defrosting frozen bread
If you want to toast frozen bread,
put the bread into the toaster,
▶ select the level of browning and push down the lever.
Then, press the defrost button*. The defrost LED lights up.
Compared with normal toasting, the defrosting process takes a little longer to achieve the same level of browning.
7.2. Warming up bread
If you want to warm up toasted bread that has cooled down,
push down the lever and press the warm-up button. The warm-up LED lights up.
Warm-up lasts for around 1/2 minute, regardless of the level of browning set.
7.3. Using the bun rack

CAUTION!
Risk of injury from burning.
The casing will become hot during operation.
▶ After use, only handle the bun rack by the plastic grips, not by the metal parts.

WARNING!
Risk of fire.
Inadequate air circulation can lead to build-up of heat.
▶ Never toast bread in the slots at the same time as warming up rolls on the bun rack.
▶ Never insert the rack into the appliance.
▶ Fold open both stands of the bun rack until they lock into place.
▶ Position the bun rack on top of the toaster so that the feet of the stand fit into both slots.
▶ Set the browning control to level 3 so that the rolls are warm on the inside and slightly crispy on the outside.
Place one to four rolls on the bun rack and push down the lever.
When the rolls have reached the required level of browning, turn over the rolls and toast again or stop toasting by pressing the cancel button.
7.4. Removing jammed slices of bread
Make sure the bread is not too thick. If, nevertheless, a slice does get stuck in the toaster, proceed as follows:
▶ Switch off the toaster by pressing the cancel button and pulling out the plug.
▶ Wait until the appliance has cooled down.
Then, carefully detach the jammed bread with a blunt, non-metallic object (e.g. the handle of a wooden spoon), without touching the heating elements of the toaster.
