How do I set up the clock for the first time?

Insert 4 AA/LR6 batteries observing polarity, then remove the locking tab and the protection tab located on the clock. The hands will automatically move to 12:00. If not, press the reset button. The clock will then capture the DCF signal within 3 to 15 minutes and set to the correct time.

What type of batteries should be used and how long do they last?

Use 4 alkaline AA/LR6 1.5 V batteries. Battery life depends on battery quality and usage conditions, but is generally several months to a year. Never recharge alkaline batteries.

What should I do if the clock does not show the correct time?

Check that the batteries are correctly installed. Then press and hold the forced reception button for 3 seconds to force the DCF signal search. What do the locking tab and protection tab mean?

These tabs are plastic strips inserted to protect the batteries and mechanisms during transport. They must be removed before first use (pull them out completely) and discarded. Do not reinsert them, as this could irreversibly damage the clock.

Does the clock have an alarm or radio function?

No, the model WC109 is a radio-controlled clock (visual alarm clock) without an audible alarm function or radio receiver. It only displays the time on a large analog dial.

How to maintain and clean the clock?

5. Operation

5.1 Battery

Do not puncture batteries or throw them in fire as they may explode. Do not attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries (alkaline). Dispose of batteries in accordance with local regulations. Keep batteries away from children.

1. Remove the protection pin before first use! Dispose of it in a safe way. Do not attempt to reinsert the pin afterwards as this will surely damage the clock.
2. Insert a new battery in the battery compartment in accordance with the polarity markings inside the battery compartment.

5.2 Working Principle

The clock contains a receiver, which receives a radio-signal from a radio station located near Frankfurt, Germany. This long-wave radio-signal (DCF77) is based on atomic clocks and contains time and date information. The clock automatically synchronizes with this master clock radio-signal and when necessary adjusts the positions of second, minute or hour hands of the clock.

Due to its nature, the radio-signal can be received indoors. However, it should be noted that the signal is weakened by the presence of concrete and metal. Therefore, the clock must not be installed in concrete basements or inside metal cages. In large concrete office buildings or apartments, the clock should be located near a window for better reception.

Also, avoid installing the clock near strong magnetic fields or other devices that generate a lot of electrical noise (e.g. engines).

5.3 Operation

Starting the Movement

Make sure the batteries have been inserted correctly.

Zero Position

Once the batteries are installed, the clock hands will automatically run and stop at 12:00. Press reset if the hands are not on the 12:00 position.

Reception Mode

Movement will start receiving the signal after 3 to 15 minutes. The reception time depends on the frequency quality at your location.

Automatic Time Setting

The clock hands will move to the correct time after the reception is completed.

Manual Time Setting

Press and hold the setting button to set the time manually. The hands will stop moving once you release the setting button.

Forced Reception

Press and hold the forced reception button for 3 seconds. The hands will move to the 12:00 position. The clock hands will move to the correct time after the reception is completed.

In order to ensure the quality, our products regularly go through an extra quality check, both by an internal quality department and by specialized external organisations. If, all precautionary measures notwithstanding, problems should occur, please make appeal to our warranty (see guarantee conditions).

General Warranty Conditions Concerning Consumer Products (for EU):

- All consumer products are subject to a 24-month warranty on production flaws and defective material as from the original date of purchase.

- Velleman® can decide to replace an article with an equivalent article, or to refund the retail value totally or partially when the complaint is valid and a free repair or replacement of the article is impossible, or if the expenses are out of proportion.

You will be delivered a replacing article or a refund at the value of 100% of the purchase price in case of a flaw occurred in the first year after the date of purchase and delivery, or a replacing article at 50% of the purchase price or a refund at the value of 50% of the retail value in case of a flaw occurred in the second year after the date of purchase and delivery.

- Not covered by warranty:

- Articles to be repaired must be delivered to your Velleman® dealer, solidly packed (preferably in the original packaging), and be completed with the original receipt of purchase and a clear flaw description.

- Hint: In order to save on cost and time, please reread the manual and check if the flaw is caused by obvious causes prior to presenting the article for repair. Note that returning a non-defective article can also involve handling costs.

• Repairs occurring after warranty expiration are subject to shipping costs.

- The above conditions are without prejudice to all commercial warranties.
