Frequently Asked Questions - 962657 Westfalia

How to use the Westfalia 962657 egg cooker?
Place the appliance on a flat surface. Pierce the eggs with the needle under the lid. Fill the measuring cup with water according to the cooking table, pour into the bowl. Place the egg tray and eggs with the bulbous side up. Put on the lid, plug in and turn on. The operating light will illuminate. An acoustic signal indicates when cooking is complete. Turn off and unplug.
How much water should I use for hard-boiled eggs?
For one hard-boiled egg, use 45 ml of water. For two hard-boiled eggs, 35 ml. For three hard-boiled eggs, 30 ml. Refer to the cooking table in the instruction manual for other levels (soft, medium, runny). Always use the supplied measuring cup.
How to clean the appliance?
Unplug and let it cool completely. Never immerse the appliance in water. Clean the cooking bowl with a damp cloth after each use. The lid, egg tray and measuring cup can be rinsed with water. Wipe the housing with a slightly damp cloth.
What should I do if the appliance does not turn on?
Check that the plug is properly inserted into a mains socket (230 V~). Make sure the push button is pressed. If the operating light does not come on, the appliance may be defective. Contact customer service. Do not attempt to repair it yourself.
The acoustic signal does not sound, what should I do?
The acoustic signal indicates the end of cooking. If you do not hear it, check that the appliance is turned on and that the water has evaporated. If the problem persists, the appliance may be defective. Contact the Westfalia customer service.
How to descale the egg cooker?
Use a commercial descaling agent based on citric acid. Follow the dosage indicated on the product. Do not use vinegar. After descaling, rinse the cooking bowl thoroughly. Perform this operation regularly depending on water hardness and frequency of use.
Can I cook other foods besides eggs?
No, the appliance is designed only for cooking eggs. Do not heat other foods or liquids in the cooking bowl. Only use the supplied accessories to avoid damage or risk.
The lid is hot, is this normal?
Yes, the lid and cooking bowl become very hot during and after cooking. To avoid burns, always hold the lid by the handle and place it on a heat-resistant surface. Allow to cool before cleaning.
How to properly pierce the eggs?
Use the needle located under the lid (on the underside of the measuring cup). Pierce each egg in the middle of the bulbous side. Be careful not to injure yourself. Piercing prevents the shell from cracking during cooking, but slightly reduces shelf life.
Can I use the appliance without the egg tray?
No, the egg tray is necessary to hold the eggs in place and ensure even cooking. Without it, the eggs may move and not cook properly. Always use all the supplied accessories.

Operation

Before the first Use

Remove all packaging materials from the appliance and from the accessories. Clean all parts of the appliance before using the first time as described below under “cleaning”.

Operating the egg cooker requires no special preparation. Still, please notice these points:

It is not unusual for the egg cooker to briefly emit an unpleasant smell while heating up for the first time. This is no reason for concern.

Please keep in mind that piercing the eggs shortens the shelf life of the boiled eggs. On the other hand, if you do not pierce the eggs, the shell may crack during cooking.

It is advisable not to soak the eggs in cold water after cooking. With the water bacteria may enter the boiled egg and cause it to spoil prematurely. Soaked eggs should be eaten within the day; eggs which have not been soaked will keep for up to three months in the refrigerator.

Operation

  1. Place the housing of the egg cooker on a flat surface.
  2. If necessary, pierce the desired number of eggs in the middle of the bulbous side. Use the egg piercing needle under the cover on the underside of the measuring cup. Be careful not to hurt yourself with the sharp needle.
  3. Fill the measuring beaker with tap water at a normal temperature. Please refer to the tables below for the amount of water to be used.
  4. Pour the contents of the measuring cup into the bowl on top of the egg cooker. Only use the measuring beaker supplied.
  5. Place the egg tray on the housing of the egg cooker.
  6. Place the eggs with the bulbous side on the egg tray.
  7. Place the cover on the egg tray. Make sure that the parts are flush with one another as intended.
  8. Insert the power plug into a properly grounded safety socket.
  9. Switch on the egg cooker with the push button. The indicator light shows that the egg cooker is switched on. Do not touch the cover or the cooking bowl during or after the cooking process, as these become very hot. When the cooking process is finished, an acoustic signal sounds.
  10. Turn off the egg cooker. If you do not intend to use the device for a long period of time, pull out the power plug if necessary.
  11. Lift the cover off the egg tray. Always hold the cover by the handle to avoid getting burned. Then place the cover on a heat-resistant surface.

  12. Lift the egg tray out of the egg cooker and also place the tray on a heat-resistant surface.

Allow the device parts to cool down sufficiently before cleaning or storing them.
