How to adjust the operating temperature?

Press and hold the SET button for two seconds until the °C symbol flashes. Use the arrow buttons to adjust the temperature, then press SET to confirm.

What to do if the appliance does not cool?

Check that the appliance is plugged in and switched on. If the problem persists, check the condenser filter: if it is dirty, clean it. Also ensure that the doors close properly and that air circulates freely around the appliance.

How to clean the condenser filter?

First unplug the appliance. Remove the removable filter and clean it with a vacuum cleaner. It is recommended to do this at least once a month to maintain performance and lifespan.

What is the capacity of this appliance?

The gross capacity is 490 litres, suitable for storing beverages and refrigerated goods.

How to defrost manually?

Press the defrost button (identified by a snowflake symbol) for 2 seconds. The manual defrost cycle resets the automatic timer. The defrost indicator lights up during operation.

What to do if the appliance is very noisy?

Check that the appliance is level and not in contact with neighboring objects. If the noise persists, ensure the surface is stable and the feet are adjusted correctly.

Can hot food be stored in the refrigerator?

No, it is not recommended to store hot food as this can increase internal temperature and overload the cooling system. Let food cool to room temperature before placing it in the appliance.

Where to place the appliance for optimal operation?

Place the appliance on a flat, stable surface, away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Leave at least 20 cm of space around the appliance for proper air circulation.

How to install the shelves?

Insert the shelves at the desired levels into the guides provided inside the cabinet. Make sure they are securely in place before loading products.

What to do in case of a power failure?

The appliance will keep cold for a while if the door remains closed. Avoid opening the door unnecessarily. Once power is restored, check the temperature and condition of the food. If the contents have exceeded 8 °C for more than 2 hours, discard perishable items.

Please take a few moments to carefully read through this manual. Correct maintenance and operation of this machine will provide the best possible performance from your POLAR product.

Installation

Note: If the unit has not been stored or moved in an upright position, let it stand upright for approximately 12 hours before operation. If in doubt allow to stand.

1. Remove the appliance from the packaging and the protective film from all surfaces.
2. Avoid positioning the appliance in direct sunlight or damp areas.
3. Maintain a distance of 20cm (7 inches) between the unit and walls or other objects for ventilation. NEVER LOCATE NEXT TO OR NEAR A HEAT SOURCE.
4. Insert the slide-out shelf/shelves at the desired levels.
5. If necessary, adjust the screw feet of the appliance to make it level.

Note: Before using the appliance for the first time, clean the shelves and interior with soapy water.

Operation

Control Panel

The control panel is located below the doors on the front of the appliance.

Defrost Light Cooling Light

Turn On

1. Close the door(s) of the appliance.
2. Connect the appliance to a mains power supply.

Note: The Cooling Light is illuminated when the appliance is chilling the interior cabinet.

To Change the Operating

Temperature

The default operating temperature is 2 °C. To display the operating temperature (set point), press and immediately release the button.

To change the operating temperature:

1. Press and Hold the SET button for 2 seconds. "°C" will start to flash.
2. Press the 🔊 buttons to change the temperature.
3. Press the SET button to store the temperature.

Manual Defrost

• POLAR Back Bar Chillers feature an automatic defrost. However, should the appliance require an additional defrost period press and hold the button for 2 seconds.
  • Automatic defrost cycles are every 6 hours and last 20 minutes (factory defaults).

Note: If a manual defrost is started this resets the automatic defrost timer. During defrost periods the Defrost light is illuminated.

Cleaning, Care & Maintenance

• Switch off and disconnect from the power supply before cleaning.
• Clean the interior of the appliance as often as possible.
• Do not use abrasive cleaning agents. These can leave harmful residues.
  • Always wipe dry after cleaning.
• A POLAR agent or qualified technician must carry out repairs if required.

Cleaning the Condenser Filter

• The condenser is part of the refrigeration system. The condenser filter requires monthly cleaning.
  • Always disconnect power supply before carrying out Routine Maintenance.
• Failure to clean the condenser filter will reduce the performance and life of your Polar unit and may invalidate your warranty.
  • These models have a removable filter which can be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner.

Note for GJ447: The filter can be easily taken out for cleaning after opening the door.

Troubleshooting

If your appliance develops a fault, please check the following table before making a call to the Helpline.

Electrical Wiring

POLAR appliances are supplied with a 3 pin BS1363 plug and lead.

The plug is to be connected to a suitable mains socket.

POLAR appliances are wired as follows:

• Live wire (coloured brown) to terminal marked L
• Neutral wire (coloured blue) to terminal marked N
- Earth wire (coloured green/yellow) to terminal marked E

This appliance must be earthed.

If in doubt consult a qualified electrician.

Electrical isolation points must be kept clear of any obstructions. In the event of any emergency disconnection being required they must be readily accessible.

Disposal

EU regulations require refrigeration product to be disposed of by specialist companies who remove or recycle all gasses, metal and plastic components.

Consult your local waste collection authority regarding disposal of your appliance. Local authorities are not obliged to dispose of commercial refrigeration equipment but may be able to offer advice on how to dispose of the equipment locally.

Alternatively call the POLAR helpline for details of national disposal companies within the EU.
