Frequently Asked Questions - Wildlife 8x24 Steiner

How to attach the carrying strap?
With the ClicLoc system, press the pin on the rubber armor to unlock, then insert the buckle turning the tab outward until it clicks. Without ClicLoc, thread the strap through the eyelet and tighten the sliding loop.
How to adjust the interpupillary distance?
Articulate the central hinge until you get a round and sharp image. This adjusts the distance between your eyes.
How to adjust the eyecups?
The eyecups can be adjusted to several positions: ergonomic (for maximum comfort), cylindrical (standard), or folded down (for eyeglass wearers). Turn them to the desired position.
How to focus with Sports-Auto-Focus?
Set the diopter corrections to 0. Choose a distant object (200 m), cover your left eye, then turn the right eyepiece diopter adjustment for sharp vision. Repeat for the left eye. Focus remains sharp from 20 m to infinity.
What to do if I see blurry up close?
With Sports-Auto-Focus PLUS, briefly turn the focus wheel to adjust sharpness from 2 m. If the problem persists, check the diopter adjustment.
How to clean the lenses?
First remove dust with a soft brush. Then wipe with a soft cloth (slightly damp if needed) to avoid scratches. For salt water, rinse with fresh water and dry.
Can I look at the sun with these binoculars?
No, never look directly at the sun through binoculars. This can severely damage your eyesight, even cause total blindness.
How to replace the compass battery (if equipped)?
Open the battery compartment, replace the used battery with a new one respecting polarity. Close the lid securely to ensure waterproofing.
Where is the serial number located?
Depending on the model, it is located at the front end of the central hinge, under the hinge, or on the objective lens. It helps identify your binoculars in case of loss or theft.
How to maintain the rubber armor?
Rinse the binoculars with running water and liquid soap if necessary. To seal microcracks due to UV, apply a dashboard cleaner spray or a plastic care product like Nigrin.

  2. Cover the left objective with your hand or the objective protection cover and look through the binoculars.
  3. Now turn the dioptre setting on the right ocular until you can see an entirely sharp and clear image with your right eye.

Cleaning/Maintenance and Important Product Information:

Cleaning your binoculars:

Remove dust and loose dirt on the lenses with a brush. Then use only a soft, possibly damp cloth to wipe the lenses. Failure to use a soft cloth can scratch the lenses. Wipe off salt water with a damp cloth then use a dry cloth to wipe the lenses.

Care for the rubber armouring:

Binoculars resistant to water pressure may be rinsed under running water using liquid soap. To close smaller hairline cracks that may be caused by UV radiation the rubber armouring should be treated with Cockpit Spray or Nigrin Plastic Care.

Product Serial Number:

All STEINERs have their own serial number. This allows you to ascertain when your binoculars were produced and it also provides a way (following the registration on the STEINER website) to identify them in case of loss or theft. You can find the serial number of your binoculars (depending on the model) at the front end of the binoculars' axis, between the objectives 18, on the underside of the binoculars' axis 19 or in the objective le ns 20.

Important Safety Note:

Never look directly into the sun with your binoculars! This may cause serious damage to your eyes and possibly lead to blindness!

Please understand that we cannot accept warranty claims for wear parts such as rubber armouring, carrying straps, eyecups or protective caps. Should you encounter any problems while using your binoculars please contact your specialised dealer or our
