TOAST COLOR/SHADE SETTING

Turn Shade Selector Dial to desired setting: Light/1-2 Medium/3-5 Dark/6-7 NOTE: This Toaster is designed to adjust toasting times based on selected bread type and shade desired. PROGRAMS 1 Slice – When toasting one slice, Sure-Toast™ technology ensures even color on both sides. The middle heating element is on when toasting starts and turns off during toasting to prevent overbrowning of one side of bread. Frozen – This gives additional time for toasting frozen breads/bagels. Cancel – To cancel or end a cycle, press Cancel. 840338700 v18.indd 5 4/6/20 8:47 AM6 How to Toast Before first use: New toasters may emit an odor during the first use. This is normal and does not affect the performance. We suggest running a cycle once without any bread.

1. Plug into outlet.

2. Place appropriate food items in slots.

3. Select type of bread and toast shade.

Press Bread Lifter down. Select 1 Slice or Frozen, if desired. Program cannot be activated unless Bread Lifter is latched down. NOTE: Bread Lifter will not latch down unless Toaster is plugged in.

5. If toasting a bagel: Place cut sides facing

out. Push Bread Lifter down. In Bagel setting, only outside heating elements come on.

6. Bread will pop up automatically at end

of cycle. For smaller breads like English muffins, use Bread Lifter to lift English muffin to remove. NOTE: For toaster pastries (such as Pop-Tarts

), do not heat in Toaster—use a toaster oven. If you must use Toaster, ALWAYS set Shade Selector Dial to setting 1. NEVER heat cracked, broken, or warped pastries; and NEVER leave unattended. ® Pop-Tarts is a registered trademark of the Kellogg Co. Tips

  • While toasting, heating elements do not have to glow red to be working properly; food will still be toasting.
  • Toasting is affected by temperature of the bread. Room- temperature bread may toast to a medium color on medium setting. The same type of bread that has been refrigerated may require a darker setting to reach a medium color.
  • The moisture content will also affect all toasting performance. Fresh bagels made locally may require two toasting cycles. A second, shorter toasting cycle may be needed to reach desired brownness.
  • Because of the irregular surface of English muffins, they may require more than one toasting cycle. After toasting for one cycle on a medium setting, if a darker shade is desired, adjust Shade Selector Dial to a lighter setting and toast for a second cycle. Watch closely to avoid overbrowning. English muffins cut with a knife toast more evenly than English muffins split with a fork. Care and Cleaning NOTE: If Toaster is used daily, Slide-Out Crumb Tray should be cleaned daily.

1. Unplug Toaster and let cool.

2. Remove Slide-Out Crumb Tray, discard crumbs, and wipe Crumb

Tray with clean cloth. Replace Slide-Out Crumb Tray.

3. Wipe outside of Toaster with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive

cleansers that may scratch surface of Toaster. 840338700 v18.indd 6 4/6/20 8:47 AM7 Troubleshooting Toaster does not toast.

  • Check to make sure electrical outlet is working and Toaster is plugged in. Odor and/or smoke come from Toaster.
  • Odor and smoke are normal during first use of most heating appliances. These should not be present after first toasting. Toast is not desired shade.
  • Toasting is affected by temperature and moisture content of bread. Room-temperature bread may toast to a medium color on medium setting. Same type of bread that has been refrigerated may require a darker setting to reach a medium color.
  • Frozen program adds time to toasting cycle to defrost food; try turning Frozen program on for darker toast or off for lighter toast. Pieces of food are stuck in Slots.
  • Unplug Toaster from outlet and allow it to cool. Use a nonmetal utensil to loosen food from Bread Guides, allowing it to fall into Slide-Out Crumb Tray. Empty Slide-Out Crumb Tray daily. Bread will not pop up.
  • If food is jammed, press Bread Lifter down as far as it will go. Then press CANCEL or manually raise Bread Lifter. Bagel setting is not toasting.
  • Bagel setting is designed to toast only one side of bagel. Ensure that cut sides of bagel are facing away from each other when inserting into Extra-Wide Longer Slots. One side of bread is darker than the other.
  • This toaster is optimized to evenly toast all slices. When toasting one slice, try toasting using 1 Slice program, which will reduce power on one side of bread. Frozen food items get too brown.
  • Some foods have a higher sugar content and brown more easily. Frozen program lengthens toasting time to allow for defrosting. Try toasting without using Frozen program.
  • Bread products can easily dry out in freezers. If frozen items are in an open box or have been frozen for a long period of time, try toasting without Frozen program, or choose a lighter shade setting. Tall homemade or extra-long artisan breads do not fit in Slots.
  • Bread may need to be trimmed to fit in Slots. Heating Elements are not glowing red.
  • While toasting, Heating Elements do not have to glow red to be working properly; food will still be toasting. Heating Element turns off during toasting cycle.
  • 1 Slice program is designed to turn off center Heating Element during cycle for more even toasting. 840338700 v18.indd 7 4/6/20 8:47 AM8 Limited Warranty This warranty applies to products purchased and used in the U.S. and Canada.
