Frequently Asked Questions - 33602 HAMILTON BEACH

What are the available cooking settings?
The slow cooker has three settings: High, Low, and Warm. Use High for fast cooking (3-4 hours) and Low for slow cooking (6-10 hours). The Warm setting keeps food at the right temperature after cooking.
Can I use an air fryer lid with this slow cooker?
Yes, this slow cooker is compatible with the Hamilton Beach air fryer lid (models listed in the manual). The lid can air fry, broil, bake/roast, or keep warm. Ensure the lid is properly positioned and the handle is lowered to operate.
How do I clean the slow cooker?
Unplug the appliance and let it cool. The stoneware pot and glass lid can be washed in the dishwasher or with warm soapy water. The base should be wiped with a damp cloth. Never immerse the base, cord, or plug.
What if the slow cooker doesn't heat up?
Check that the appliance is plugged in and the outlet works. Make sure the temperature selector is set to High or Low. If the problem persists, contact Hamilton Beach customer service.
Can I leave the slow cooker unattended?
It is not recommended to leave the appliance unattended for long periods, especially on High. However, the slow cooker is designed for safe slow cooking. Keep the appliance out of reach of children and do not let the cord hang.
How to use the air fryer function after slow cooking?
After slow cooking, unplug the slow cooker and remove the glass lid. Place the air fryer lid on the pot, plug it in, select the mode (Air Fry, Broil, Bake/Roast) and set the time/temperature. Never move the entire unit; use the provided stand to place the hot lid.
What types of food can I cook in the slow cooker?
The slow cooker is suitable for meats, poultry, stews, soups, vegetables, and desserts. Avoid frozen meats without prior thawing. For pasta and dairy products, add them at the end of cooking.
How do I adjust cooking times for recipes?
In general, 1 hour of cooking on High equals 2-3 hours on Low. If you fill the pot halfway, check the cooking 1 to 2 hours before the end. Do not remove the lid unnecessarily to avoid heat loss.
The air fryer lid turns off by itself, is that normal?
Yes, the air fryer lid automatically shuts off after cooking and beeps 5 times. The display shows 'COOL' then '---'. Unplug it and let it cool on its stand.
Where can I find spare parts?
Spare parts (pot, lid, etc.) are available at hamiltonbeach.ca/parts. For after-sales service, contact customer service in the USA or Canada at the addresses indicated in the warranty.

Care and Cleaning

  1. Unplug. Set up Lid Stand.
  2. Lift Air Fry Lid by Handle and place on Lid Stand. Cool completely. NOTE: Leave Crock in Slow Cooker Base to cool due to high temperatures when air frying. Letting Crock cool guards against rapid cooldown that may cause damage.

Tips for Slow Cooking

  • Removable Crock should be at least half-filled for best results. If only half-filled, check for doneness 1 to 2 hours earlier than recipe.
  • Stirring is not necessary when slow cooking. Removing Glass Lid results in major heat loss and cooking time may need to be extended. However, if cooking on HIGH, you may want to stir occasionally.
  • If cooking soups or stews, leave a 2-inch (5-cm) space between top of Removable Crock and food so recipe can come to a simmer.
  • Many recipes call for cooking all day. If your morning schedule doesn't allow time to prepare a recipe, prepare it the night before. Place all ingredients in Removable Crock, cover with lid, and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, simply place Removable Crock in Slow Cooker.

WARNING Electrical Shock Hazard. Disconnect power before cleaning. Do not immerse cord, plug, air fry lid or slow cooker base in any liquid

  1. Wipe top of Air Fry Lid with a damp towel and dry.
  2. Wipe underside of Air Fry Lid with a damp, soapy cloth. Then wipe with a clean damp cloth and dry.
  3. DO NOT immerse Air Fry Lid in water or use any abrasive cleansers or pads.

  4. Some foods are not suited for extended cooking in a Slow Cooker. Pasta, seafood, milk, cream, or sour cream should be added 2 hours before serving. Evaporated milk or condensed soups are perfect for slow cooking.

  5. The higher the fat content of meat, less liquid is needed. If cooking meat with a high fat content, place thick onion slices underneath so meat will not sit on (and cook in) fat.
  6. Slow cookers allow for very little evaporation. If making your favorite soup, stew, or sauce, reduce liquid called for in original recipe. If too thick, liquid can be added later.
  7. If cooking a vegetable-type casserole, there will need to be liquid in recipe to prevent scorching on sides of Removable Crock.

Food Safety Tips

  • Do not use frozen, uncooked meat in Slow Cooker. Thaw any meat or poultry before slow cooking.
  • Visit www.foodsafety.gov for more information on safe internal cooking temperatures.

Troubleshooting

Air Fry Lid does not work.

  • Appliance is not plugged in. Plug into outlet.
Buttons were pressed and Air Fry Lid isn't working.
Air Fry Lid Handle is not down in closed position. Ensure Handle is fully in closed position.
  • Air Fry Lid is not positioned correctly on Crock. Air Fry Lid has an internal position sensor that will pause or prevent cooking if not upright and level. Ensure Air Fry Lid is positioned upright and level on Crock.
Air Fry Lid is in standby mode. Press and hold ON/OFF (O) button to turn on Air Fry Lid.

  • To store leftovers after cooking, do not place entire Removable Crock in refrigerator since contents will take too long to cool. Instead, divide leftovers into smaller containers and place into refrigerator.

  • Never allow undercooked or raw meat to sit at room temperature in Slow Cooker. Once meat is placed into Removable Crock, it should be cooked immediately (unless prepping Slow Cooker the night before, where Crock should be placed into refrigerator).

Food is not cooked.

  • Too much food was added to Air Fry Basket. Flip, stir or rotate food if needed; then add more time and continue cooking.
  • Temperature was too low. Increase temperature and continue cooking.

Food is not cooked evenly.

  • Food should be flipped, stirred or rotated halfway through cooking time, or more frequently if needed.
Smoke coming from Air Fry Lid.
  • Excessive oil or food has splattered onto heating coil. Unplug and cool completely. Wipe away excess oil or food from heating coil with a damp cloth.
