Why is my food not cooked enough?

Check that you are using the correct temperature setting (LOW or HIGH) and that the lid is properly in place. Make sure the pot is at least half full. If cooking at high altitude, cooking times may be longer.

Can I use the WARM setting to cook food?

No, the WARM setting (keep warm) does not cook food. It is only used to keep already cooked food warm. Always use LOW or HIGH for cooking.

How to use the Lid Latch lid lock?

The Lid Latch™ is designed to secure the lid during transport or storage. Do not use it during cooking. Attach the locking tab into the grooves under the handles to lock the lid.

Can the stoneware pot go in the microwave or oven?

Yes, the stoneware pot can be used in the microwave and conventional oven, but avoid heating it empty. The glass lid should not go in the microwave, oven, or on a direct heat source.

Can I leave the slow cooker on unattended overnight?

The slow cooker is equipped with an automatic shut-off after 14 hours of operation for safety reasons. You can therefore leave it on unattended, but follow the recommended cooking times.

How to clean the base of the slow cooker?

Always unplug the appliance before cleaning. Never immerse the base, cord, or plug in water. Wipe the base with a damp cloth. The pot and glass lid are dishwasher safe.

What if the cooking time seems too long compared to the recipe?

Cooking times may vary depending on the quantity of food, starting temperature, and altitude. Fill the pot at least half full for optimal results. Check doneness 1 to 2 hours before the indicated time is up.

Can I put frozen meat directly into the slow cooker?

No, it is dangerous to cook frozen meat in a slow cooker. Always thaw meat or poultry before slow cooking to ensure even and safe cooking.

Is the lid airtight?

The glass lid is not airtight; it has ventilation holes to let steam escape. This allows slow cooking and prevents excessive pressure. For transport, use the Lid Latch™ to hold the lid.

Is the warranty transferable to a new buyer?

No, the limited warranty applies only to the original purchaser or the person who received the appliance as a gift. You must present the original sales receipt for any claim.

CROCK AND LID: PRECAUTIONS AND INFORMATION

• Please handle crock and lid carefully to ensure long life.
• Avoid sudden, extreme temperature changes. For example, do not place a hot lid or crock into cold water, or onto a wet surface.
• Avoid hitting crock or lid against faucet or other hard surfaces.
• Do not use crock or lid if chipped, cracked, or severely scratched.

• Do not use abrasive cleansers or metal scouring pads.

• The bottom of the crock is very rough and can damage the countertop. Use caution.

• The crock and lid can become very hot. Use caution. Do not place directly on any unprotected surface or countertop.
• The crock is microwave-safe and oven-proof, but never heat crock when empty. Never place lid on a burner or stove top. Do not place lid in a microwave oven, conventional oven, or on stove top.

REMOVING LID AND CROCK

When removing lid, tilt so that opening faces away from you to avoid being burned by steam.

The sides of the slow cooker's base get very warm because the heating elements are located here. Use handles on base if necessary. Use oven mitts to remove crock.

Cooking Mode

Turn unit on by pressing ON/OFF (①) button. The unit will automatically default to a cooking time of 4 hours on HIGH.

BEFORE FIRST USE: Wash glass lid and removable stoneware crock in hot, soapy water. Rinse and dry.

TEMP HOLD WARM 7 4 6 8 10 ON/OFF

Select desired cooking temperature by pressing the TEMP button.
NOTE: Do not use WARM setting to cook or reheat food.

TEMP WAN LOW HIGH ON/OFF 2 4 6 8 10

Adjust cooking time by pressing the HOURS button. 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10 hours can be selected. Cooking time will then count down in 2-hour increments. Visit www.foodsafety.gov for more information on safe internal cooking temperatures.

NOTES:

• The cooking temperature and selected cooking hours function independently of one another and either may be changed at any time. When a new cooking time is selected, the unit will reset to count down from the new number of hours chosen.
• As a safety precaution, the unit will not stay on for more than 14 hours of continuous cooking and warming time and will also shut off automatically.

The selected cooking time will glow for 2 hours. When the 2 hours are finished, the next 2-hour light will glow and continue the countdown until the cooking time is complete.

At the end of the cooking time, the slow cooker will automatically switch to WARM setting. NOTE: Cook time plus warm time cannot exceed 14 hours. When the unit switches to WARM, the light glows to show how much time is remaining of the 14 hours.

Care and Cleaning

Disconnect power before cleaning. Do not immerse cord, plug, or base in any liquid.

Remove crock and let cool.
DO NOT use the "SANI" setting when washing in the dishwasher. "SANI" cycle temperatures could damage your product.

How to Use Lid Latch™

The Lid Latch™ helps secure lid while moving, transporting, or storing slow cooker. Do not use Lid Latch™ while cooking.

Place latch under one handle. Stretch to other side and secure under other handle.
Once attached, latch can also be crossed over knob to further secure lid.

Tips for Slow Cooking

• The removable stoneware crock should be at least half-filled for best results. If only half-filled, check for doneness 1 to 2 hours earlier than recipe.
• Stirring is not necessary when slow cooking and removing glass lid results in major heat loss and the cooking time may need to be extended. However, if cooking on High, you may want to stir occasionally.
• If cooking soups or stews, leave a 2-inch (5-cm) space between the top of the removable stoneware crock and the food so that the recipe can come to a simmer.
• Many recipes call for cooking all day. If your morning schedule doesn't allow time to prepare a recipe, do it the night before. Place all ingredients in removable stoneware crock, cover with lid, and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, simply place the removable stoneware crock in slow cooker.

Food Safety Tips

• Do not use frozen, uncooked meat in the slow cooker. Thaw any meat or poultry before slow cooking.
• Visit www.foodsafety.gov for more information on safe internal cooking temperatures.

• To store leftovers after cooking, do NOT place the entire removable stoneware crock in the refrigerator since contents will take too long to cool. Instead, divide leftovers into smaller containers and place into refrigerator.

• Some foods are not suited for extended cooking in a slow cooker. Pasta, seafood, milk, cream, or sour cream should be added 2 hours before serving. Evaporated milk or condensed soups are perfect for slow cooking.

• The higher the fat content of meat, the less liquid is needed. If cooking meat with a high fat content, place thick onion slices underneath so meat will not sit on (and cook in) fat.
• Slow cookers allow for very little evaporation. If making your favorite soup, stew, or sauce, reduce liquid called for in original recipe. If too thick, liquid can be added later.
• If cooking a vegetable-type casserole, there will need to be liquid in the recipe to prevent scorching on the sides of the removable stoneware crock.

- Never allow undercooked or raw meat to sit at room temperature in the slow cooker. Once meat is placed into the removable stoneware crock, it should be cooked immediately (unless prepping slow cooker the night before, where crock should be placed into the refrigerator).

Troubleshooting

PROBLEM

Cannot select TEMP and/or HOURS settings.

Food is undercooked.

The food isn't done after cooking the amount of time recommended in my recipe.

My meal was overcooked. Why?

PROBABLE CAUSE/SOLUTION

• Is the unit plugged in?
- Test that the electrical outlet is working with a lamp in known working order.
- Was food cooked on the Warm setting? Do not cook on Warm setting; always cook on Low or High heat settings.
- Did you select the Low heat setting, but used a cooking time based on the High heat setting?
- Did you have the glass lid placed correctly on the slow cooker?

- This can be due to voltage variations (which are commonplace everywhere) or altitude. The slight fluctuations in power do not have a noticeable effect on most appliances. However, they can alter cooking times in the slow cooker by extending the cooking times. Allow sufficient time and select the appropriate heat setting. You will learn through experience if a shorter or longer time is needed.

- Was the removable stoneware crock at least half full? The slow cooker has been designed to thoroughly cook food in a filled removable stoneware crock. If the removable stoneware crock is only half-filled, check for doneness 1 to 2 hours earlier than recipe time.

• Did you select hours based on a Low heat recipe?

- Foods will continue to increase in temperature after desired temperature has been reached.

This product is warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of five (5) years from the date of original purchase in Canada and one (1) year from the date of original purchase in the U.S. During this period, your exclusive remedy is repair or replacement of this product or any component found to be defective, at our option; however, you are responsible for all costs associated with returning the product to us and our returning a product or component under this warranty to you.
