Frequently Asked Questions - WPS 857 Rommelsbacher

How to use the WPS 857 food warmer?
Plug the power cable into the appliance and then into a grounded outlet. Let it heat for about 8 minutes until the pilot light turns off. Then unplug the cable: the appliance is now autonomous and can keep your dishes warm for up to 1 hour.
How long does it take for the plate to reach its maximum temperature?
The heating time is approximately 8 minutes. The pilot light goes out when the maximum temperature of 120 °C is reached.
What is the heat retention duration after unplugging?
After unplugging the appliance, the accumulated heat keeps food warm for about 1 hour.
Can I leave the appliance plugged in continuously?
Yes, you can leave it plugged in. The built-in thermostat regulates the temperature and acts as overheat protection, automatically turning off the heating element when the maximum temperature is reached and turning it back on if it drops.
What type of cookware can I use?
Preferably use containers with flat bottoms to ensure good thermal contact. Avoid too high edges that would cause heat loss. Cover food for better heat retention.
How to clean the food warmer?
Always unplug the appliance before cleaning. Clean the surface with a damp cloth and a little mild dish soap, then dry. Never immerse the appliance, cable, or plug in water. Do not use a steam cleaner, abrasives, or sharp objects.
What to do if the pilot light does not turn on?
Check that the appliance is properly plugged in and the outlet is powered. If the light still does not turn on, unplug the appliance and have it checked by a specialist. Do not use the appliance if it is damaged.
Is the appliance safe to use around children?
Children under 8 years old must be kept away from the appliance and cord. Children aged 8 and older may use it under supervision and after receiving instructions about the risks. Cleaning must not be done by children unless they are at least 8 years old and supervised.
Can I heat flammable liquids?
No, never use the appliance to heat flammable liquids or easily flammable substances. This poses a fire risk.
How to dispose of the appliance at the end of its life?
Do not dispose of the appliance with household waste. According to the WEEE directive (2012/19/EU), return it free of charge to a municipal collection point or a recycling center for electrical and electronic equipment. You can also donate a working appliance to a charity.

Initial use and operation

Rommelsbacher WPS 857 - Initial use and operation - 1

Attention: Hot surface!

  • The heat storing warming tray has a special configuration, which means that the stainless steel tray heats up less in the peripheral zones than in the middle of the surface. This feature prevents an overheating of the gripping areas and minimizes the risk of burns.
  • The appliance has a high-quality decorative surface. Please take care to put kitchenware cautiously onto the plate and not to slide it on. Hard china may cause scratches.
  • In order to avoid damage, make sure to exclusively use the attached power supply cord.
  • Connect the plug for the appliance with the warming tray's power inlet.
  • Then plug the safety plug into an earthed socket.
  • The warming tray reaches its maximum temperature of about 120^ within approx. 8 minutes.
  • The pilot lamp goes out.
  • The plug for the appliance can be removed now.
  • The appliance is now independent of power supplies and can be used for a great variety of purposes. The cumulated heat will be stored for up to one hour.
  • It is possible to keep the appliance connected to the mains for a longer period. The integrated thermostat also serves as a thermal shut-off to prevent overheating. It switches off the heating element automatically as soon as the maximum temperature has been reached. When the temperature drops, the thermostat will start again all by itself and will re-heat the warming tray to maximum temperature. You can see that the thermostat adjusts itself to maintain the temperature by the pilot lamp's going on and off.
  • Unplug the appliance after usage!
  • Kitchenware with a level bottom, which provides good contact to the surface of the warming tray, is particularly suitable for keeping dishes warm.
  • Bottom stand should not be too high since otherwise considerable loss in heat will occur.
  • Covering the dishes will increase efficiency of keeping them warm.

The printed or embossed markings indicate the materials which were used: PE stands for polyethylene (code 02 means high-density PE, 04 stands for low-density PE), PS stands for polystyrene and CPE for chlorinated polyethylene. PAP 20 means corrugated cardboard and PAP 21 other cardboard. All plastics are thermoplastics which are very easy and efficient to produce. They are also very easy to recycle and therefore can even have a smaller ecological footprint than comparable cardboard packaging.

NOTE: It is not always possible or reasonable to avoid using plastic packaging. These often have great advantages compared to cardboard because less material has to be used which saves weight which in turn reduces CO_2 consumption. The protective effect in case of impacts or shocks is usually better.
