Pour que votre Canon PIXMA TR4651 imprime depuis votre ordinateur, plusieurs éléments doivent être en place. Error 1704 on your Canon PIXMA TR4651 means that the ink absorber (also called waste ink absorber) is saturated. This small sponge-like component located under the ink cartridges collects the ink residues generated during the print head cleaning cycles. You can try to clean it before considering a replacement.

Before you begin: Completely turn off the printer and unplug it from the power outlet. Wear disposable gloves, have a soft damp cloth ready, and prepare a container or newspaper to catch any ink that may spill. Work in an easily washable area.

Accessing the absorber: Open the top front cover of the printer to access the cartridge compartment. Carefully remove the black and color ink cartridges by lowering the locking levers, which will give you better access to the absorber. The absorber is usually located at the bottom of the compartment, under the cartridge axis, or slightly shifted towards the back. It looks like a small tab or block made of porous material soaked in ink.

Cleaning the absorber: Carefully remove the absorber using your gloves or a small pair of tweezers to avoid getting stained. Soak a soft cloth in slightly soapy warm water and gently wipe away the excess ink on the surface. If the material resists, you can soak the absorber for 10 to 15 minutes in warm water with a few drops of mild soap, then rinse it thoroughly with clear water. Gently press with a cloth to remove excess water, then let it dry completely in the open air for at least 2 to 3 hours before putting it back in place. Absolutely avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, or solvents that could damage the material's structure.

Reassembly: Once the absorber is completely dry, reinstall it in its original position, ensuring it is properly seated. Reinstall the ink cartridges in their respective slots by raising the locking levers until you hear a click. Close the front cover.

Verification: Plug the printer back in and turn it on. Wait for the initialization to complete, then check if error 1704 has disappeared. If the printer operates normally, you can resume printing. Note that it is also possible to reset the waste ink counter via a button combination, but this procedure varies depending on the firmware versions. Refer to the Canon online manual for this procedure.

Replacement: If after cleaning the error persists, or if the absorber is completely saturated and cannot be restored, a replacement is necessary. In this case, contact Canon support or an authorized dealer, as this operation may require a technician's intervention depending on your region. Some specialized cartridge and consumable providers also offer the replacement of used absorbers.

2. Removing the Orange Tape

1 Remove the orange tape.
2 Open the front cover, and then open the paper output tray.

1 Open the front cover, and then open the paper output tray.

2 Open the paper output cover.

Caution

Do not touch the ink cartridge holder until it stops moving.

3 Lower the ink cartridge lock lever on the left-hand side.

4 Remove the Color ink cartridge from the package and remove the orange tape.

  • Do not touch the ink on the orange tape. It could stain your hands or surrounding objects.
  • Do not touch the areas shown in the figure. Otherwise, the printer may not print correctly.

5 Insert the Color ink cartridge in the ink cartridge holder.

6 Raise the ink cartridge lock lever.

Connecting to a Computer

If you are using multiple computers, perform these steps on each computer.

1 Access the Canon website from your computer.

2 Select Set Up.
3 Enter your printer's model name and click Go.
4 Click Start, and then select Connecting to a Computer/Smartphone.

• The following steps are for Windows users.

5 Click Download.
6 Run the downloaded file.

  • Follow the on-screen instructions. This may take some time.
  • To connect to a smartphone as well, see "5-b. Connecting to a Smartphone" on page 5.
  • Once you have added your printer, you can print from your Computer. To print, see "Loading Paper" on page 6.
    • To set up a fax, see "Using Fax Function" on page 5.

Using the Setup CD-ROM

Double click EasySetup.exe in the CD-ROM, and then continue from step 3. If you do not have an internet connection, open the win folder in the CD-ROM and double click SETUP.exe. This will install the printer driver.

If you are using multiple smartphones, perform these steps on each smartphone.

1 Install the "Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY" app on your smartphone.

Perform Print Head Alignment if straight lines are crooked or colors are inconsistent, or print results are otherwise not what you expected.
