Frequently Asked Questions - DSC425 Nesco

What is the capacity of the Nesco DSC425 slow cooker?
The slow cooker is available in two capacities: 4 liters (model DSC-4-25) and 6 liters (model DSC-6-25). Check the label under the base for the exact capacity of your unit.
Can I put the ceramic pot in the dishwasher?
Yes, the ceramic pot and glass lid are dishwasher safe. The heating base should never be immersed in water.
How long are the cooking times on Low or High?
LOW mode offers 8 or 10 hours, while HIGH mode offers 4 or 6 hours. Once the time is up, the slow cooker automatically switches to WARM.
What if smoke or odor is emitted during first use?
This is normal: it is due to manufacturing residues. Let the appliance run empty on High for 30 minutes, then clean. The odor will disappear after a few uses.
Can I leave the slow cooker unattended?
It is not recommended to leave the appliance unattended for extended periods. The automatic keep warm function keeps food at temperature, but it is best to be present during cooking.
How to clean the slow cooker base?
Unplug and let cool. Clean the base with a damp cloth and mild soap, then dry thoroughly. Never immerse the base in water.
Can I use the ceramic pot alone in the oven or on the stove?
No, the ceramic pot is designed only for use in the slow cooker heating base. Do not put it in the oven, on a flame, or on a cooking plate.
Why does the light flash after plugging in?
The flashing light indicates the slow cooker is plugged in but not yet started. Select a mode and cooking time to turn it on.
What is the warranty period and how to activate it?
The warranty is one year from the date of purchase. It is recommended to fill out and send the warranty card to the address in the manual (Nesco, PO Box 237, Two Rivers, WI 54241-0237) within one week of purchase.
Can I use an extension cord with the slow cooker?
Yes, but it must be rated at least equal to the appliance's power (approx. 240 W). Place the cord to avoid tripping hazards and keep away from hot surfaces.

  • All food should be covered with a sauce, gravy or liquid. In a separate pan or dish, prepare your sauce, gravy or liquid and completely cover the food in the ceramic cook pot.

  • Never leave uncooked food at room temperature in the slow cooker.
  • Do not use the cooker to reheat food.
