What to do if the scanner is not recognized by the computer?

Make sure the Scanning Utility software is installed before connecting the scanner. Check the USB connection, use the supplied cable, and avoid USB hubs. If the problem persists, contact your authorized Canon dealer.

How to clear a paper jam?

Open the maintenance cover by sliding your finger into the opening lever. Lower the reading module using the lever. Carefully remove the jammed paper by pulling it forward. Close the module and cover. Beware of sharp edges.

The scanner does not turn on, what should I check?

Check that the power switch is fully pressed (slide to the right). Ensure the power cord is plugged into a working power outlet. Use only the supplied adapter.

How to clean the feed rollers?

Open the maintenance cover and the reading module. Rotate the rollers while wiping them with a soft cloth slightly dampened with water or mild detergent. Use cotton swabs for narrow areas. Also wipe the scanning glass.

How to replace the endorser ink cartridge?

Turn off the scanner. Open the maintenance cover and the endorser cover. Push back the locking lever to remove the old cartridge. Insert the new cartridge until it clicks. Adjust the print position if necessary. Close the covers.

Why are MICR characters not recognized?

The magnetic heads may be dirty. Clean them with audio head cleaner (commercially available). Check that the MICR characters are facing the scanner (upward). If the problem persists, contact customer service.

How to adjust the separation roller gap?

Open the maintenance cover. Remove the feed tray and load two documents of the same thickness. Turn the adjustment dial counterclockwise to widen the gap, then slowly clockwise until the second sheet no longer passes. Check for correct feeding.

How to scan long documents?

Enable long document mode in the driver settings (up to 2000 mm). Remove the ejection stopper. Load one document at a time, supporting it to keep it straight. Scanning in long mode may be slower.

What to do if scanned images are abnormal?

Clean the exposure glass and rollers. Check the scanning settings (brightness, resolution). If the image is blurry or stained, adjust the settings. Reinstall the driver if necessary. If the UV model is used, select the appropriate grayscale mode.

How to disable auto power off?

Go to Control Panel, then 'Devices and Printers'. Right-click on the scanner icon (CANON CR-L1 USB), select 'Scanner Properties', 'Maintenance' tab. Uncheck the box 'Power turns off automatically after 4 hours'.

This is Debian GNU/Linux's prepackaged version of the PCRE regular expression library and associated pgrep utility.

This package was put together by me, Mark Baker [e-mail] from the original sources obtained from ftp. csx.cam.ac.uk:/pub/software/programming/pcre.

zlib

ZLIB DATA COMPRESSION LIBRARY

zlib 1.2.8 is a general purpose data compression library. All the code is thread safe. The data format used by the zlib library is described by RFCs (Request for Comments) 1950 to 1952 in the files http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1950 ( zlib format),RFC1951 (deflate format) and RFC1952 (gzip format).

All functions of the compression library are documented in the file zlib.h (volunteer to write man pages welcome, contact [e-mail]). A usage example of the library is given in the file test/example.c which also tests that the library is working correctly. Another example is given in the file test/minigzip.c. The compression library itself is composed of all source files in the root directory.

To compile all files and run the test program, follow the instructions given at the top of Makefile.in. In short "/configure: make test", and if that goes well, "make install" should work for most flavors of Unix. For Windows, use one of the special makefiles in win32/ or contrib/vstudio/. For VMS, use make_vms.com.

Notes for some targets:

• For Windows DLL versions, please see win32/DLL FAQ.txt
• For 64-bit Irix, deflate.c must be compiled without any optimization. With -0, one libpng test fails. The test works in 32 bit mode (with the -n32 compiler flag). The compiler bug has been reported to SGI.
• zlib doesn't work with gcc 2.6.3 on a DEC 3000/300LX under OSF/1 2.1 it works when compiled with cc.
• On Digital Unix 4.0D (formely OSF/1) on AlphaServer, the cc option -std1 is necessary to get gzprintf working correctly. This is done by configure.
• zlib doesn't work on HP-UX 9.05 with some versions of /bin/cc. It works with other compilers. Use "make test" to check your compiler.
• gzdopen is not supported on RISCOS or BEOS.
