Frequently Asked Questions - WLANWB1 SONY

How to pair the Sony WLANWB1 receiver with a Bluetooth headphone?
To pair, make sure the receiver is off (hold the switch for 2 seconds). Place the receiver and headphone within 1 meter. Put the headphone in pairing mode. Then, hold the receiver switch for more than 7 seconds until the indicator flashes rapidly. The PIN code is 0000. Pairing is successful when the indicator flashes slowly.
Why is there no sound?
Check that the receiver is properly connected to the Walkman and both devices are powered on. Ensure the Bluetooth device (headphone, speaker) is on and connected. Check the distance (max 10 m) and move away from sources of interference (microwaves, Wi-Fi). If necessary, re-pair.
How to reset the Sony WLANWB1 receiver?
Plug the receiver into the Walkman while holding the switch. Hold the switch for more than 15 seconds until the indicator flashes 4 times. All pairing information will be erased.
Can I control the headphone volume from the Walkman?
Yes, if the headphone supports the AVRCP profile (with volume +/-). Otherwise, volume must be adjusted directly on the headphone. The Walkman volume setting does not affect the Bluetooth device volume.
What to do if the sound is choppy or cuts out?
Try switching the MODE switch to position 2 (stability priority). Move away from other wireless devices (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth) and microwaves. Place the receiver and headphone as close as possible to each other, with no obstacles.
The receiver does not turn on or turns off quickly.
Ensure the switch is held for about 2 seconds. Check the Walkman battery: if low, charge the Walkman. The receiver is powered by the Walkman.
How to switch the connected Bluetooth device?
The receiver tries to connect to the last two paired devices. To connect a previous device, turn on the receiver and, while the indicator flashes slowly (10-13 flashes), establish the connection from the Bluetooth device.
Can I use the receiver with a non-Sony Walkman?
No, the receiver is designed exclusively for Sony Walkmans with a WM-PORT (22 pin). It does not work with other brands or models.
What to do if the PIN code is not accepted during pairing?
The PIN code of this receiver is fixed: 0000. If your device asks for a different code, check that it is compatible. Some devices may require entering '0000'.
How to clean the receiver?
Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Do not use chemical products (alcohol, gasoline) that could damage the surface.

Tip

You can control the volume on the Bluetooth receiving device.

Notes

  • Depending on your Walkman, when the Walkman is in Sleep status, you may need to keep pressing the play button in order to start playback.
  • Even if you control the volume on the Walkman, sound from the Bluetooth receiving device will not change. If the Bluetooth receiving device is supported by AVRCP (Vol +/-), you can control its volume. (For more details, see page 13.)
  • When this unit establishes the Bluetooth connection with the Walkman, AVLS (Automatic Volume Limiter System) is deactivated and beep sounds are not emitted.
  • If this unit and the Bluetooth receiving device become out of range and the Bluetooth connection terminates, repeat the procedure from step 1. Note, however, that if the unit and the Bluetooth receiving device come into connectable range again within about 10 minutes, Bluetooth connection will be reestablished automatically.
  • When you listen to FM broadcast received by a Walkman with a built-in FM tuner through the Bluetooth receiving device, make sure to connect the headphone to the Walkman, as the headphone cord works as an antenna, otherwise FM signals cannot be received.
  • If the recording level of audio data on the Walkman is too high, the output sound quality from the Bluetooth receiving device, may not meet the user customized settings, e.g., “Equalizer” etc.
  • Playback through a Bluetooth connection may cause noise, sound break, or playback speed change depending on the location and the usage (page 14).

About the MODE switch

You can select the sound quality or wireless communication stability preferentially.

MODE 1: Sound quality takes priority.

MODE 2: Reception stability takes priority.

Notes

  • When you set the MODE switch to MODE 1, and experience sound breaks, set to MODE 2.
  • Sound break may occur depending on your Bluetooth receiving device when switching between MODE 1 and 2.

Controlling by the Remote

When connecting (Bluetooth connecting) to devices that support AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile)

You can control the Walkman using the control button of the Bluetooth headset, also adjust the volume of the Bluetooth speaker using the control button of the Walkman. For details, see the operating instructions supplied with the Bluetooth devices.

Before starting remote control operation, check that step 1 and 2 of "Bluetooth Connecting / Playing back" are completed (page 11).

What is Bluetooth technology?

Bluetooth wireless technology is a short-range wireless technology that enables wireless data communication between digital devices, such as a computer or digital camera. Bluetooth wireless technology operates within a range of about 10 meters (about 30 feet).

You do not need to use a cable for connection since Bluetooth technology is a wireless technology, nor is it necessary for the devices to face one another, such is the case with infrared technology. For example, you can use such a device in a bag or pocket.

Bluetooth technology is an international standard supported by thousands of companies all over the world, and employed by various companies worldwide.

Communication System and Compatible Bluetooth Profile of this unit

Profile is standardization of the function for each Bluetooth device specification.

This unit supports the following Bluetooth version and profiles:

Communication System: Bluetooth Specification version 2.0

Compatible Bluetooth Profile:

- A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile)

- AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile)

Precautions On Bluetooth communication

- Bluetooth wireless technologyBluetooth wireless t operates within a range of about 10 meters (about 30 feet). Maximum communication range may vary depending on obstacles (person, metal, wall, etc.) or electromagnetic environment.

Steel cabinet This unit

  • Optimal performance
  • Limited performance

- The following conditions may cause noise, sound break or playback speed change.

- When using inside the metal bag.

- When using inside the backpack or shoulder bag.

- A device using 2.4 GHz frequency, such as a wireless LAN device, cordless telephone, or microwave oven, is in use near this unit.

- Because Bluetooth devices and wireless LAN (IEEE802.11b/g) use the same frequency, microwave interference may occur and resulting in communication speed deterioration, noise, or invalid connection if this unit is used near a wireless LAN device. In such a case, perform the following.

  • Install this unit and Bluetooth device as near to each other as possible.
  • If this unit is used within about 10 meters (about 30 feet) of a wireless LAN device, turn off the wireless LAN device.

- Due to the characteristic of Bluetooth wireless technology, the sound played on the Bluetooth device is slightly delayed from the sound played on the Walkman.

- We do not take any responsibility for leakage of information during Bluetooth communication.

- Connection with all Bluetooth devices cannot be guaranteed.

- A device featuring Bluetooth function is required to conform to the Bluetooth standard specified by Bluetooth SIG, and be authenticated.

- Even if the connected device conforms to the above mentioned Bluetooth standard, some devices may not be connected or work correctly, depending on the features or specifications of the device.

- Depending on the device to be connected, communication may take some time.

On safety

  • Do not drop, hit, or otherwise expose the unit to strong shock of any kind. This could damage the product.
  • Do not disassemble or attempt to open any parts of the unit.
