PRECAUTIONS TO AVOID POSSIBLE EXPOSURE TO EXCESSIVE MICROWAVE ENERGY

For your safety the information in this manual must be followed to minimize the risk of fire or explosion or to prevent property damage, personal injury or loss of life.

Do not attempt to operate this oven with the door open since open-door operation can result in harmful exposure to microwave energy. It is important not to defeat or tamper with the safety interlocks.

Do not place any object between the oven front face and the door, or allow soil or cleaner residue to accumulate on sealing surfaces.

Do not operate the oven if it is damaged. It is particularly important that the oven door close properly and that there is no damage to the:

  1. door (bent),
  2. hinges and latches (broken or loosened),
  3. door seals and sealing surfaces.

The oven should not be adjusted or repaired by anyone except properly qualified service personnel.

IMPORTANT WARNING

This unit needs to operate on its own dedicated 15 amp circuit. PLEASE DO NOT CONNECT ANYTHING ELSE TO THIS CIRCUIT.

IMPORTANT WARNING

To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or injury to persons or exposure of excessive microwave energy when using your appliance, please adhere to the following instructions:

  1. Read all instructions before using the appliance.
  2. Read and follow the specific "PRECAUTIONS TO AVOID POSSIBLE EXPOSURE TO EXCESSIVE MICROWAVE ENERGY."
  3. This appliance must be grounded. Connect only to properly grounded outlet. See "GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS."
  4. Install or locate this appliance only in accordance with the provided installation instructions.
  5. Some products such as whole eggs and sealed containers -for example, closed glass jars- are able to explode and should not be heated in this oven.
  6. Use this appliance only for its intended use as described in this manual. Do not use corrosive chemicals or vapors in this appliance. This type of oven is specifically designed to heat, cook, or dry food. It is not designed for industrial or laboratory use.
  7. As with any appliance, close supervision is necessary when used by children.
  8. To reduce the risk of fire in the oven cavity:

  10. Remove wire twist-ties from paper or plastic bags before placing bag in oven.
  11. If materials inside the oven should ignite, keep oven door closed, turn oven off, and disconnect the power cord or shut off power at the fuse or circuit breaker panel.
  12. Do not use the cavity for storage purposes. Do not leave paper products, cooking utensils or food in the cavity when not in use.
  13. Liquids, such as water, coffee, or tea are able to be overheated beyond the boiling point without appearing to be boiling due to the surface tension of the liquid. Visible bubbling or boiling when the container is removed from the microwave oven is not always present. THIS COULD RESULT IN VERY HOT LIQUIDS SUDDENLY BOILING OVER WHEN A SPOON OR OTHER UTENSIL IS INSERTED INTO THE LIQUID. To reduce the risk of injury to persons:
  14. Do not overheat the liquid.
  15. Stir the liquid both before and halfway through heating it.
  16. Do not use straight-sided containers with narrow necks.

  18. Use extreme care when inserting a spoon or other utensil into the container.
  19. Do not heat oil or fat for deep-frying. It is difficult to control the temperature of oil in a microwave oven.
  20. Pierce foods with heavy skins such as potatoes, whole squash, apples and chestnuts before cooking.
  21. The contents of feeding bottles and baby jars should be stirred or shaken and the temperature should be checked before serving in order to avoid burns.
  22. Cooking utensils may become hot because of heat transferred from the heated food. Oven mitts may be needed to handle the utensil.
  23. Do not cover or block any openings on the appliance.
  24. Do not store or use this appliance outdoors. Do not use this product near water, for example, near a kitchen sink, in a wet basement, near a swimming pool, or similar locations.
  25. Do not operate this appliance if it has a damaged cord or a plug, if it is not working properly or if it has been damaged or dropped.
  26. Do not immerse the cord or plug in water. Keep the cord away from heated surfaces. Do not let the cord hang over the edge of a table or counter.
  27. Use only thermometers, which are specifically designed for use in microwave ovens.
  28. Do not operate any heating or cooking appliance beneath this appliance.
  29. Be certain that the glass tray and roller rings are in place when you operate the oven.
  30. This appliance should be serviced only by qualified service personnel. Contact the nearest authorized service facility for examinations, repair, or adjustment.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

SPECIAL NOTES ABOUT MICROWAVING

ARCING

If you see arcing, press the "STOP" button and correct the problem. Arcing is the microwave term for sparks in the oven.

Arcing is caused by:

• Metal or foil touching the side of the oven.
- Foil not molded to food (upturned edges act like antennae).
- Metal, such as twist-ties, poultry pins, or gold-rimmed dishes, in the microwave.
• Recycled paper towels containing small metal pieces being used in the microwave.

FOODS

  • Only cook popcorn in your microwave oven using a special microwave popcorn accessory dish, unless you use popcorn labeled for use in microwave ovens.
  • Some products- such as whole eggs (with shell), sealed containers, and closed jars - will explode and should not be heated in this microwave oven. Heating these products in the microwave oven could result in injury.
  • Do not boil eggs in a microwave oven. Pressure will build up inside egg yolk and will cause it to burst, possibly resulting in injury.
  • Operating the microwave with no food inside may cause damage to the oven and could start a fire. It increases the heat around the magnetron and can shorten the life of the oven.
  • Foods with unbroken outer “skin” such as potatoes, hot dogs, sausages, tomatoes, apples, chicken livers and other giblets, and egg yolks should be pierced to allow steam to escape before cooking.

SAFETY FACT

  • Microwaved water and other liquids do not always bubble when they reach the boiling point; they can actually get superheated and not bubble at all. Superheated liquid can bubble up when it is moved or when something like a spoon or tea bag is put into it. To prevent this from happening and causing injury, do not heat any liquid for more than 2 minutes per cup. After heating, let the cup stand in the microwave for 30 seconds before moving it or putting anything into it.
  • Avoid heating baby food in glass jars, even with the lid off. Make sure all infant food is thoroughly cooked. Stir food to distribute the heat evenly. Be careful to prevent scalding when warming formula. The container may feel cooler than the milk really is. Always test the milk before feeding the baby.
  • Spontaneous boiling- Under certain circumstances, liquids may start to boil during or shortly after removal from the microwave oven. To prevent burns from splashing liquid, we recommend the following:

Before removing the container from the oven, allow the container to stand in the oven for 30 to 40 seconds. Do not boil liquids in narrow-necked containers such as soft drink bottles and especially narrow-necked coffee cups. Even if the container is opened, excessive steam can build up and cause it to burst or overflow.

- Don't defrost frozen beverages in narrow-necked bottles (especially carbonated beverages). Even if the container is opened, pressure can build up. This can cause the container to burst, possibly resulting in injury.

- Hot foods and steam can cause burns. Be careful when opening any containers of hot food, including popcorn bags, cooking pouches and boxes. To prevent possible injury, direct steam away from hands and face.

- Do not overcook potatoes. They could dehydrate and catch fire, causing damage to your oven.

- Cook meat and poultry thoroughly- meat to at least an INTERNAL temperature of 160°F (71.1°C), and poultry to at least an INTERNAL temperature of 180°F (82.2°C). Cooking to these temperatures usually protects against food borne illness.

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

SPECIAL NOTES ABOUT MICROWAVING

PERMISSIBLE MATERIALS

CAUTION: PERSONAL INJURY HAZARD

Tightly-closed containers could explode. Closed containers should be opened and plastic pouches should be pierced before cooking.

This section lists which utensils can be used in the microwave, which ones have limited use for short periods, and which ones should not be used in the microwave.

Microwave browning dish — Use to brown the exterior of small items such as steaks, chops, or pancakes. Follow the directions provided with your browning dish.

Microwaveable plastic wrap — Use to retain steam. Leave a small opening for some steam to escape and avoid placing it directly on the food.

Paper towels and napkins — Use for short-term heating and covering; these absorb excess moisture and prevent spattering. Do not use recycled paper towels, which may contain metal and could ignite.

Glass and glass-ceramic bowls and dishes — Use for heating or cooking.

Paper plates and cups — Use for short-term heating at low temperatures. Do not use recycled paper, which may contain metal and could ignite.

Wax paper — Use as a cover to prevent spattering.

Thermometers — Use only those labeled “Microwave Safe” and follow all directions. Check the food in several places. Conventional thermometers may be used on microwave food once the food has been removed from the oven.

LIMITED USE

Aluminum foil — Use narrow strips of foil to prevent overcooking of exposed areas. Using too much foil can damage your oven, so be careful. You should keep a distance of 1 inch (2.54 cm) between the aluminum foil and the microwave cavity.

Ceramic, porcelain, and stoneware— Use these if they are labeled “Microwave Safe.” If they are not labeled, test them to make sure they can be used safely.

Plastic — Use only if labeled "Microwave Safe". Other plastics can melt.

Glass jars and bottles — Regular glass is too thin to be used in a microwave. It can shatter and cause damage and injury.

Paper bags — These are a fire hazard, except for popcorn bags that are designed for microwave use.

Styrofoam plates and cups — These can melt and leave an unhealthy residue on food.

Plastic storage and food containers — Containers such as margarine tubs can melt in the microwave.

Metal utensils — These can damage your oven. Remove all metal before cooking.

Note:

Should you wish to check if a dish is safe for microwaving, place the empty dish in the oven and microwave on HIGH for 30 seconds. A dish which becomes very hot should not be used.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

COOKING TECHNIQUES

Your microwave makes cooking easier than conventional cooking, provided you keep these considerations in mind:

STIRRING - Stir foods such as casseroles and vegetables while cooking to distribute heat evenly. Food at the outside of the dish absorbs more energy and heats more quickly, so stir from the outside to the centre. The oven will turn off when you open the door to stir your food.

ARRANGEMENT - Arrange unevenly shaped foods, such as chicken pieces or chops, with the thicker, meatier parts toward the outside of the turntable where they receive more microwave energy. To prevent overcooking, place delicate items, such as asparagus tips, toward the centre of the turntable.

SHIELDING - Shield food with narrow strips of aluminum foil to prevent overcooking. Areas that need shielding include poultry wing tips, the ends of poultry legs, and corners of square baking dishes. Use only small amounts of aluminum foil. Larger amounts can damage your oven.

TURNING - Turn foods over midway through cooking to expose all parts to microwave energy. This is especially important with large foods such as roasts.

STANDING - Foods cooked in the microwave build up internal heat and continue to cook for a few minutes after heating stops. Let foods stand to complete cooking, especially foods such as cakes and whole vegetables. Roasts need this time to complete cooking in the centre without overcooking the outer areas. All liquids, such as soup or hot chocolate, should be shaken or stirred when cooking is complete. Let liquids stand a moment before serving. When heating baby food, stir well at removal and test the temperature before serving.

ADDING MOISTURE - Microwave energy is attracted to water molecules. Food that is uneven in moisture content should be covered or allowed to stand so that the heat disperses evenly. Add a small amount of water to dry food to help it cook.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

The interior of this unit is equipped with XpressClean technology. When spills and spatters in your microwave become caked on, simply wet a cloth or sponge, put the cloth over the spill or splatter, apply pressure and wipe clean.

Note: Please make sure that the interior of the unit has cooled before cleaning.

  • Turn off the oven and remove the power plug from the wall socket before cleaning.
  • Keep the inside of the oven clean. When food splatters or spilled liquids adhere to oven walls, wipe with a damp cloth, while applying pressure on the cloth or sponge.
  • The outside surfaces should be cleaned with a damp cloth. To prevent damage to the operating parts inside the oven, water should not be allowed to seep into the ventilation openings.
  • Wipe the window on both sides with a damp cloth to remove any spills or spatters.
  • Do not allow the control panel to become wet. Clean with a soft, damp cloth. When cleaning the control panel, leave oven door open to prevent oven from accidentally turning on.
